Joker, as long as you are in pretty good shape to start, I'm sure you could be back at work part time after 2 weeks. As you can see from my post, I was frisky enough after 3 weeks, haha. The first few days hurt but you'll be in the hospital and just ask for all the pains meds you need, most places are pretty sympathetic. I found that Demerol worked better for me than Morphine, but everyone is different. It would be great if you can have some help at home for a few days to a week, otherwise take it VERY easy. Also, this was hard but it is important for preventing weird scar tissue from forming. Unless there are complications with your surgery, they will probably make you walk a little bit around 24 hours after the surgery. I looked at them like they were insane, I couldn't believe they were serious but there is good reason, to get your body back on track. When your abdomen is opened it slows down your system so the sooner you trick your body into thinking everything is back on track, the better for your health and probably, chances of conceiving, too. They will have you walk each day and for you, there is a great motivater. I had no idea I'd be pregnant a month later, but you may conceive quickly too. I was 39, to boot! I'm very excited for you, it'll be fine and you'll be a Mommy before you know it.

Bridgit - thanks so much for sharing you wonderful story - HB to David! Joker - I went back to work after 3 weeks at home. I was restless and anxious to go back, but that said, I know I would not have been able to go back at two. I was still getting tired easily from simple things like walking and had some movement restrictions (like bending down to pick something up). Are you able to work from home for a week or two before physically going back?

Julianne- Congrats, I am so happy you made it through. Make sure you continue to take it easy but try and walk from time to time even if it from the bedroom to the bathroom to the livingroom. I've had a Myo twice and 4 - 8wks depending on the person is enough time. I could not imagine returning to work sooner,,, There were times that I felt I could but after walking a block or two outside I got tired or dizzy. Joker, if I were you I would at least take off 4 wks and I wouldn't recommend Morphine. Haven't met too many people who did well with Morphine. It made me nauseas both times. I vomited until they changed medications. Bridget, you give me such inspiration with your story. My husband and I are trying to have a baby now. Thank you for sharing. I had my Myo on Oct 03rd. We had intercourse about 3 wks after... Haven't got preggo yet. Period due on wed. We will see...

Hi everyone..thank you all for your support. I've been having some cramping lately..I think it has to do with how I sleep..I think I was cold last night so I slept in the fetal position and woke up in the middle of the night with this unusal pain..it is hard to explain how it feels..it the past 2 weeks it has happened twice so I think the fibroids must be shrinking and getting closer to my bladder since my uterus is getting smaller..anyone else experience this? As for going back to work in 2 weeks it is just wishful thinking on my part..I know I will go crazy sitting aroud the house and my job is a desk job so if I can go back part time..working a mid shift like 11 to 3..I think I can handle it..but we will see how I feel at 2 weeks and what my doc says I don't want to put myself at risk. I will see about working from home. I'm sure there are things I can do from home.

Hiya, thank you so much for sharing all your updates it really really helps to understand how other people are dealing with their similar situations but just at different parts in the treatment. I have just gotten back from the hospital and am feeling rubbish. I have been on Zoladex (Lupron in the US I believe) to shrink my single fibroid (13cm x 9cm x 9cm). I have been taking this for 3.5 months now and went for an MRI scan today to see how much it has shrunk so my gyaeno can determine when I should get surgery or if I need it to shrink for longer first. The radiologyst told me it hasn't shrunk at all - this was devastating news. I felt it hadn't shrunk but through this was just me being overly pesamistic, yet it was actually the case. I have to wait until 27th Feb to see the gyaeno but I really just want an explanation as to why my body hasn't shrunk the fibroid like it should have done. I can't ge the appointment any earlier as I've already asked his secretary - they are just fully booked. I am not the most patient person at the best of times and this has just made me lose hope in it ever shrinking.I can safely take the drug up to 6 months but if it still hasn't shrunk then I'm worried he may have to give me a hysterectomy to get it out! Has anyone else been on this 'fibroid shrining drug' and it not worked as planned? Take care all, Jacky

Hello. Sorry that I did not write in so many months. I always read your stories and am rooting for everybody. But I needed to get some distance to the fibroid-thing - or I would have gone crazy ;-) After developping many fibroids during my pregnancy and having a miscarriage last summer, I was on Lupron for the past 4 months, but as with Jacky, my fibroids didn't shrink as much as expected. I have four bigger ones (now still approx.7x6x7cm) and multiple smaller ones. My doc didn't have an explanation either but also she was not too worried about it... After various sceduling problems with the OR, I just learnt today, that I'm going to have the myomectomy next tuesday, feb. 20th! Uhuh... Finally! I felt like my life was on hold for the past couple of month and now finally something will be done. Of course I am a bit anxious, but it really helps to read all your stories about the surgery and life afterwards. I am not alone, and neither are you. And anyway, it's not up to us to decide on our destiny, right? We can just hope and keep our fingers crossed... I will let you know how the surgery went....

Joker - February 15

Hi Jacky and Moon..don't worry too much about the fibroids not shrinking. The drug Lupron is not made specially to shrink the fibroids..it is to put your body in menopause..lower hormones and hopefully that will casue the fibroids to shrink. From my research and my opinion the drug is use to stop your period and build up your iron count especially if you are anemic..I have been on drug for 3 months and I haven't taken any tests to measure the fibroids since the lupron shot..but I can tell they have shrunk by the way my clothes fit. The fibroid still has a blood supply..so that could account for why they haven't shrunk. Another thing I want both of you to remember is that a skilled doctor can safely remove any fibroid no matter the size and location. That is why it is very very important to find the right doc. Take care everyone.

Hi, everyone. Hope all is well. Say alittle prayer for me... Something weird is happening in my body. I spotted 2 wks after my last period (it was only for 2 days - when I wipe)and had cramps for almost 4 days. Everything stopped and started again last friday. My period was due yesterday (Feb14th). No cramps now... I pray that my fibroids didn't grow back. Can they grow back this quick? Did a pregnancy test on Feb 11th, Negative... Pls, God! Since my Myo on Oct 03, 2006, I've had hardly any cramps each month... Usually, cramps would occur for 2 days, a wk before my period Although they aren't as bad as before the Myo.... Just noticed something diff.... Needed to vent....

MsMonet - February 19

My period came yesterday which was the 18th of Feb. The cramps were stronger than they've been since surgery, In fact, I haven't felt cramps like this since before surgery. Calling the doctors office, tommow.

Joker - February 19

Ms. Monet I hope all is well with you. I wonder why you had such a bad period..maybe it is just one of those periods that you get and for some reason it is worse than normal..I pray it is not a fibroid. Has the doc said anything about putting you on any fertility drugs to get you prego faster? Would you want to be on any? I pray all is well. Please let us know how you are after your doc appt. Take care

MsMonet - February 19

Joker-I hope it was just one of those periods.... I called one of my friends who is a OB/GYN. She said don't worry about about anything... Never understand when doctors say that... She said that there is no way the fibroid could grow back so soon but it may be scar tissue from the surgery. It does fill full down there. Just like it felt before the surgery... We honestly have been trying to get preg. No success yet but it has on been 3 1/2 months... I will call my doctor tomorrow... He did tell me that if I was not preg by March... We would have to consider fertility drugs because he didn't want the scar tissue to cause me problems. I fill like its a race against time... Scar tissue growth and being 35 yrs old... Gosh, it seems bad enough that I can only have a chid by cesarean but now I may not be abe to conceive the normal way. Perhaps, I should only focus on being able to have a child, right? Well, I've always wanted twins since I was a child so may be this is my way of getting them. Lol! As long as I can have children... That's all that matters... Hate having so many problems down there but I've come too far,,, How are you Joker? When is your surgery? March 5th, still?

Juliane - February 19

Ms. Monet, I am saying a prayer for you, too. And It is great that you are being proactive, reaching out for info and answers from your doctor. I just found out from a professional colleague, who had a baby boy (last thursday) by C-section, that she had many procedures due to fibroids and difficulty getting prego after. She was put on fertility drugs and finally conceived 6 months after. She had a totally uncomplicated pregnancy (although she was considered high-risk) and now has a healthy baby boy. If there is a will, there is a way... and I know that you have the will! Stay strong and try not to get overwhelmed by the bumps in the road. You will get there, somehow I just know you will! Joker, congrats on having a date for your myo. How are you feeling? Did you get things sorted out with work? I will be thinking about you on March 5th! My recovery is still going along smooth, although I did pick up some bundles of newspapers, which I think were too heavy, because I feel it in my abdominal area now... ouch! This is my last week home and start back at work next Monday. Still haven't gotten a period yet... but otherwise feel good. Take Care, everyone!

Joker - February 19

Hi Ms. Monet, I'm glad your doc friend was albe to rea__sure you everything was ok. Yes, I'm still schd for my surgery mach 5th. I go for my pre-op appt on thursday. I know what you mean about race against time. I feel that way too even though I'm not at that stage yet. Its a race between scar tissue, fibroids, and age! I know once I have the surgery the next 3 months are going to go by so slow..and when we start TTC it is going to go by so fast! I just feel like I can't win. Do you have any recommendations on what to buy to prepare me for the surgery! Not the usual PJs or things like..what made easy for you to..reading..games..etc. I'm more worried about being bored than I am about pain. Talk to you soon. Keep in touch

MsMonet - February 19

Joker-To be honest, I slept for the first few (2) wks due to all of the medication and effects of the anesthesia... Anestethia made me vomit alot in the recovery room... I tried to read but fell asleep. I tried to watch tv but I fell asleep. The only thing I did was turn from one side to another and go to the bathroom. Believe me, you will not be bored the first 2wks. You'll be in pain but less pain the more you walk. Don't over do it. Listen to your body. I broke out in a fever and almost pa__sed out when I tried to do too much. Listen to your body! Each person is diff but before you go in to the hospital set up things on your night stand. Purchase some large granny underwear... Nothing that will be tight around your waist... Don't want pressure on the bandages or incisions... You'll get some net like underwear in the hospital... I'm sure you will have people to help but have your pain meds near by & something to drink, books, journal, etc near your bedside. You will probably sleep on your back for the first week. Maybe after the 2nd wk, you will get bored and want to lay on your side... It feels much more comfortable to place a pillow underneath your stomach if you lay on your side. I did read books and did puzzles. I also did alot of journaling...I made alot of calls to people I hadn't spoke to in awhile... I don't think you will be bored after a few wks. You will be focusing on healing and thinking about the next step. Buy a girdle to wear after a few weaks... Then the boredom will come in... It did for me but I knew I had to return back to work in all do time.

MsMonet - February 19

Julianne- It's so great to hear from you!!! How are you? Oh, that is wonderful! What method did your friend use? I am currently researching the diff methods. Most seem to use artificial or ivf... I am glad you are doing better. Boy, time has gone by fast since you went in for surgery... So, you are much better? You'll get your period soon. Both times after my myo... My period was the same as it was when I had fibroids the first time and after that there were less cramps, blood, etc,,,

Juliane - February 19

Hi Ms. Monet, I don't know the full details, but my friend used the IVF method... Good luck to you! I've also know someone who got pregnant the month before starting fertility treatment... you just never know... spring is right around the corner... the season of fertility and life! I am definately saying a special prayer for you. I am doing good... feeling much, much better and enjoying my last week of recovery before returning to work. I am looking forward to getting my period and then trying to get pregnant. It is exciting, but also scary... the unknown of it all. My friends are all having babies left and right... it would be nice to join them in that process!
