Progesterone Dropping

Thank you! I really hope it works out well this time also.... Anyhow... if your already starting to m/c unfortunately its kinda late to take progesterone supplements..... BUT, if you do m/c tell the dr. that you would like to get check out to see if you have luteal phase defect (lack of progesterone production) in case you get pregnant again, you will know to get on supps right away. Otherwise, your levels may just have dropped because you were losing it, but that you didn't lose it because it dropped. I KNOW that lost it because it was low, it never dropped... it just wouldn't get high enough, and it was too late. They usually don't do testing until you've had 2-3 m/c's.. which sucks, but since I had 3, I'm getting everything I need done with this one and all the test came back perfect. ONLY thing wrong is the lack of progesterone production which the supps seem to be doing good for this preg. I get my lab back from last weeks test soon. Hopefully they didn't drop from the 19.1

Christina - I started taking progesterone (crinone) after a week of light spotting and things seem to be going well now. So, spotting isn't always indicative of an immediate miscarriage, and the progesterone can help but thing back on the right track.

Daniella-No, my doc only had me on Crinone 8% gel supposotories, it's the strongest you can get. Mine never dropped until it platued at 11 weeks or so. Then the placenta takes over. The ultrasound isn't because of the insurance, I am an insurance broker and I know that's not the case :). The Crinone should be enough until 12 weeks. How far along are you now?

Daniella - September 20

I am on the crinone 8%, and when I looked it up, it said that its one of the highest out there. That made me feel good. Anyhow, I started it 11 days after conception. My HCG on day 11 was 132.. I still can't belive that it was that high that early. But, I know when I conceived, lol... Anyhow... I am now 31 days post conception.. Add the 14 days for the gestation period... I am 45 days gestation. So, 6 weeks 3 days today. Last Friday (5 wks 6 days) we seen the heart flicker already. So, its looking good. How far along did you say you are? 12 weeks? Let me know what they say at your ultrasound. I'm sure it will be fine!! :)

Dani - September 20

yes, the Crinone is the highest and most potent out there. I am 21 weeks actually. Did you get your labs back yet? My doc always had them rushed as stat so we could get them the same day or the next morning. My HcG was 78 at 6wks and went up after that just perfect. The last time we did the HcG and prog. blood tests the Hcg was at 200,000. That was at 12 weeks and that's not even at the end of the "scale" so it was really good to know. I will let you know tomorrow how the ultrasound goes, it's at 3pm tomorrow!

hi, i'm 40 yrs old and pregnant for the first time. i had my first u/s yesterday, dr. told me i was 6 weeks. dr. advised me the heartbeat was slow and she had concerns about low progesterone levels, so prescribed 100 mg suppositories. i'm hoping that things get better but need some advice on the best way to insert the suppository without it sliding out...can anyone help!!!

Dani - September 20

You need to take it when you plan on relaxing for at least 30 minutes. Before bed is the best but if you have to take 2x a day, try to do it in the morning before you start your day. That's when I always did mine. Good luck!!!

Yvette- 6 weeks is too early for a doctor to say that the heartbeat is too slow. DANI- At 11 days past ovulation (Aug, 31) my HCG was 132, then 13 days past (Sep 2nd), it was 370... then 6 days later (Sep. 8th) it was 4467, and last friday it was over 40,000. That was at 5 weeks 6 days. On Sep. 8th (same day my HCG was 4467) my progesterone was 19.1... but, then I got retested one week later, Sep 15th. (last thurs) but haven't got the results back yet on that. Will let you know. But, my last pregnancy, my progesterone never got past 8.4 without supps. and my HCG was only 9500 at 10 weeks. BUT the heart was still beating. Kinda weird, but it was fighting. I only wish I did the crinone sooner last time. I got pregnant again my first ovulation, (5 weeks) after my D&C from that preg. I had my D&C on July 17th, and on Aug 11th, my HCG was down to 5. On Aug 20 I conceived again. Been trying for 4 years, so it was a blessing that it happened so darn fast like that. Just glad we have more knowledge on this whole thing and started Crinone right away. I can't wait to hear what you have to say after the u/s. Best of luck!!

Thanks for the advice Dani, I'll definitely try the morning/evening routine. Daniella, Thanks for the information..thats encouraging...I'll just wait out the next 2 weeks til my next u/s and see what the Dr. says. Thanks again

hi louise i am on duphaston. my gyn gave me as i had brown spotting at 5 weeks. i am now at 6 weeks plus and jus had my brown spotting again. Did u get any jab to support the growth? Have u heard any negative facts on using duphaston? I am worried that the hormone pill may disrupt the hormonal growth of the baby. I ve also heard how some female babies became more manly as they grow old.

Hi all - Despite seeing a heartbeat at 7 1/2 weeks and taking crinone for an initially low (12), though ever increasing progesterone level, the ultrasound today at 9 1/2 weeks showed a correct for age gestational sac (explaining the awful nausea I've still been experiencing) but no more baby - just a pile of debris on the floor of the sac. It was a huge shock. This was my third miscarriage this year - the other two all had cramping, spotting, and never saw anything in the sac. I also had a miscarriage 10 years ago (just before I got pregnant with my now 8 year old daughter) - another blighted ovum. I've also had an endometrial polyp removed this year, and an ectopic. Hard to say if any of this is related, but I'm 37 and don't have much time left, but don't have much energy for this anymore either. My doctor is testing the fetus for chromomal abnormalities this time, and talk of sending me for extensive specialist testing. I think I'm ready to just give up, though. This has been too hard.

Daniella - September 22

Erin- what was your HCG at?

Erin - September 22

It was 5000 at 5 weeks - high normal, then doubled again 48 hours later. After that, they stopped testing HCG as ultrasound is more reliable and you really can't do anything if HCG is not increasing as it should. I have no complains about how this was done.

Daniella - September 23

No, your really can't do anything, BUT at least you can have an idea if its not going good any longer. The reason I asked, is my last miscarriage, the HCG was doubling normally, and the sac was measuring normally... but, at about 8 weeks, the sac was correct but the fetal pole only had a flicker for a heartbeat and my HCG was hardly going up anymore. The highest it got was 9500... The heartbeat stayed a flicker for about 3 weeks (weird, it stayed that long)... but, all of a sudden my last ultrasound before my D&C, the fetal pole was like dissolved (so to say) and NO heartbeat or color flow. It was 2 days before that last one that we still seen the flicker... So, I knew I lost it that night. We knew for weeks that it wasn't going good, but we didn't want to end it with its heart still beating. EVEN though it was slow, it was still there. The sac always measured right, but the fetal pole didn't. And at the last u/s they said it basically disappeared.
