Progesterone Dropping

So I got my results and my level is up to 22.4! I am very excited. I am only on 50mG suppositories, so I wasn't sure it was enough. Seems to be doing its job. I will stay on them through 12 weeks.

When I was 4 weeks pregnant (2 weeks after conception) I found out I was pregnant and started on Crinone 8%. One of the highest progesterone supplements on the market. My progesterone level was tested when I started the meds. and it was at 19.1 I was relieved it was that high, but knew it wouldn't stay that high because I do have luteal phase defect and I've lost 3 pregnancies in the past. It was the last one that they finally realized it. Anyhow, 2 weeks after taking this medicine (so, I was 6 weeks along) they tested my progesterone again and it was at 19.2. So, basically the same. I can only imagine what it would be at if I wasn't taking the medicine since it didn't go up at all and I'm on the highest dose. I will be 12 weeks in just 8 more days. I have my next ultrasound in 2 more days at 11 weeks 1 day. I am so scared. My last one was at 7 weeks 5 days and everything looked good. Measured perfectly and a strong heartbeat at 166bpm. But, I will be scared until I hit that 12 week mark and know the baby's placenta makes the hormones on its own and I can stop the meds. Until then, I wont be at ease.

Daniella, I too was nervous until 12 weeks but then there is something else to worry about, the triple screen. But ya know what, you can't worry. You will be fine and so will the baby. I had a doc appt. today, the heartbeat is SO loud on the doppler now, it's so funny...

Yea, on my last ultrasound (7 weeks 5 days) the heartbeat was so loud at 166bpm. I was almost going to ask them to turn the volume down. LOL... But, it was real good to hear. I just hope its still there and strong on my next apt. on Friday. I'm so anxious and so scared.

I know that anxiety...keep us posted and try to relax!!!

Hi - I'm nervous too, I'm 10 weeks and have been on 200mg of Prometrium since week 6. My level initially was 9.4 and at last check - 7 weeks - I went to 32.4. I have 2 days of Prometrium left. Had an U/S on Monday and everything looked really good. The physician's a__sistant said to finish this RX out then be done but I'm concerned. This is my first baby and a miracle at that! I'm calling the Dr. for confirmation/second opinion. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks and good luck to all of you!

Dani - October 19

Hi Debbie, maybe ask the doc for 2 more weeks of Rx to be safe. I stopped at 12 weeks and everything was fine...if they saw the placenta on the ultrasound, maybe it's grown enough to produce enough progesterone.

Ok, the baby starts to make its own hormones through the placenta at week 10. But, most dr's have you wait until week 12 to stop, just to make sure that the baby is having no stress on its own. If your numbers were that high and everything looked good, I would have to say that I wouldn't worry. But, if you feel more comfortable, you can take it to week 11 or 12. My numbers went from 19.1 and then 2 weeks after taking the highest level of progesterone on the market without injections, was 19.2. So, I know I really need it. I want them to test my level tomorrow (friday) before my dr. has me stop the meds. I will be 11 weeks 1 day tomorrow and I only have 2 doses left. The bad part is, it takes them up to 2 weeks for the progesterone results to come back. So, I have no idea. I think I am just going to ask for one more weeks worth (so, until I'm 12 weeks) and hope that the levels are high enough. I will keep you all posted on what they say at tomorrows ultrasound. My husband and I are so nervous.

Hi Dani & Daniella - thanks for responding. The physician's a__sistant called me back after I posted yesterday and felt it was ok to go off the progesterone. But if I felt better I could take it for another 2 weeks. The U/S on Monday showed the "yolk sack" - the start of the placenta. I think I'm going to ask them to refill for another 2 weeks. I'll be 40 when I delivery this baby so this is probably my only shot at children and I don't want to lose this baby. I have 1st trimester testing scheduled with Genetics Counselor 1st week on October. Thanks for the good wishes -take good care of yourselves!

Daniella- TWO WEEKS to get lab results back?????? Why so long? My doc got them back the same day! They always ordered "stat", that is just crazy! Debbie-So did your doctor refill your Rx? Good luck w/everything, keep us posted!

Dani- I am overseas due to the military. They don't have a lab for progesterone on base, so they have to send it out. But, they do have a lab for HCG, which comes back in one hour. I know, it sucks. I am going to ask the dr. if there is any way to rush it. Anyhow, my apt is in 13 hours (counting down, lol)... I am so anxious and nervous. I will post after the apt. Wish me well! I am so scared!!

Daniella-I see...how did the appt go???

yvette - October 21

debbie- hi, just read your post..wishing you lots of luck..i'll be 41 next month and am curious, in your post, you mentioned this pregnancy was a miracle..did you use any fertility treatments..i tried clomid, got pregnant..but progesterone was too low and we m/c at 7 weeks...anxiously waiting to try again..

Debbie - October 21

Hi everyone - I did talk to the doctor's office again and they said it would do absolutely no harm to continue the Prometrium for another 10 days to get me to 12 weeks if I would make me feel better, so for peace of mind I'm going to continue it. Thanks for all the advice - hope you're all doing ok!

Hi ladies, I just wanted to give an update. I went to the doctor's today and got to see my little guy. Just looked like a peanut with a little heartbeat. The doc says it is around 160. I feel so much better, but I know I am not out of the woods just yet.

Daniella - October 23

Hey, my dr. apt went great. He or she kept moving around so much, kicking, waving its arms, etc. that it was really hard to get the doppler to pick up one straight heartbeat. Everytime we almost got it, the little one would jump to the other side. I was laughing so much. So, as you can tell everything looked great. My husband laughed saying it looked like an alian. Hah!! Well, I was 11 weeks 1 day at my apt on Friday.... So, I asked the dr. to refill my prescription (Crinone 8%) for one more week. She did. I actually didn't even have her test my progesterone because everything looked good and now its up to the baby to make it on its own. Not much I can do now. But, I have faith.. this one is surely a strong one. :)
