Kylie- not sure on that... most these post are of females on progesterone "during" a pregnancy. 70 seems extrememly high.. but, thats to a woman that doesn't produce much. At 8 weeks pregnancy my level was 19. So, I dunno. Ask your dr. when you do your test.

Daniella-Yes, it is quite a mother day present! I am so excited. I will talk to my doc today and see what he says about the prometrium. BTW I have been taking it since 8 weeks. My levels were 16.7 around 5 weeks and 14 around 8 weeks. I just wonder if it can cause harm to keep taking it as well. I think my dr. is trying to make sure i sustain this pregnancy. He specializes in infertility and we have been trying forever. I would like to stop taking it and have a drug free pregnancy if possible. I also of course don;t want to miscarry though. Are you nervous at all?

My doc said to take the prometrium until 17 weeks, just to avoid any problems. He said it will not hurt at all. He said he does not want anything to go wrong. I guess I will if it does not hurt at all.

kylie- good luck on that!! Alex- you "can" take it up to 18 weeks if you want, but I am just telling you that after 12 there is absolutely no point. He's right in the aspect that it wont hurt. But, your body will just expel the excess hormones. You should have him test your progesterone at week 12 and you will see how much higher it is. And it isn't going to be the medicine that is the reason its that high, its the baby. Once the baby is 10-12 weeks, it makes it on its own. So, NO supplements are needed. So, my best advice is just to ask for a test done at 12 weeks. Make sure its around the same time as you have been getting them done, because your level changes through out the day. In the morning it can look low and in the night it can look high. So, if the time you got your last 2 test taken were at totally different times, your level may actually not have gone down like you thought. But, anyhow... I will post the chart. I'm sure everything will be fine Alex. Once you hit 12 weeks you have a 98% success rate. :)

Progesterone Levels---- First Trimester 10-90 ng/ml Average is about 20 at 4 weeks LMP, and 40 at 14 weeks LMP. It is important to note that while a higher progesterone level corresponds with higher pregnancy success rates, one cannot fully predict outcome based on progesterone levels. Progesterone supplementation is unlikely to help if started after a positive pregnancy test._____
Second Trimester 25-90 ng/ml Average is 40 at beginning, 90 at end.____
Third Trimester 49-423 ng/ml Usually peaks at about 175.

Daniella, thanks a lot for the info and encouragement. I think we all get so nervous about everything once you have had a miscarriage. I will ask him about the test. I did have them tested around the same time. That info about progesterone not helping after a positive pg test is interesting. Makes me wonder if I have been fine all along. Who knows.....I am so glad to make it to 12 weeks!!! I know you are too. Now I can't wait to start showing.

Alex- I don't exactly believe that if you take it after a positive pregnancy test its already too late. I don't believe that at all.. 8 weeks seems kinda late, but not after a positive test. My last pregnancy stopped growing at about 6.5 weeks because I wasn't producing enough progesterone. So, it was too late for be by the time they put me on supps at 8 weeks. But, if you make it to 8 weeks, your usually in the clear. This pregnancy, I started the supplements "after" a positive test. At 11 days past conception.. and it worked. If I took it any later, I would probably have lost it. But, I caught it in time. Anyhow, its a good thing to take precautions... Yet, your probably right... yours sounds like it would have been fine regardless. But, I can see how your dr. may worry if your level started dropping. Even though it didn't drop "that" much. It still did... So, I can see him putting you on the meds. just in case. But, I don't see why he said until 5 months, or heck, even 18 weeks. Well.... I'm sure he will test it again since you hit 12 weeks. :) your now going into your second trimester (congrats!).... So, your levels should be above 20 now. Please let me know what the results come back as. I just hit 12 weeks today, but I decided that there really isn't any point in testing anymore because I wouldn't have made it this far if it wasn't going to make it AND everything looks great in the ultrasound. So, now... its pretty much up to the baby. :)

yvette- thats OK, clomid isn't good to take right after a miscarriage anyhow... it can over stimulate your ovaries. They just went thru a lot with your pregnancy you just lost, so inducing them with drugs this soon is not good. But, the good news is, you are way more fertile after a loss... I would only ovulate maybe 2 times a year. But, I did 5 weeks after my loss and I got pregnant that first time around. Never even got a period. So, if your HCG was anything near mine, then you may be ovulating soon.. Did you dr. test your HCG all the way down yet? You ovulate once your HCG gets down to 0 and if you don't get pregnant, you will have your period 2 weeks after that. If I didnt' get pregnant, it would have come 6 weeks after my loss.

thanks, really appreciate that info..i haven't been to see my dr since the day she told me i was m/c. lately i have been getting those old familiar feelings like i'm going to have a m. cycle but still nothing...i got pregnant for the first time with clomid. didnt really expect it would work the first time out considering i had been on the fertility merry go round bout 10 yrs ago with no luck at all...so when i did get pregnant i was shocked..been taking metformin for my diabetes and pcos for a few years now and my m. cycles finally started to regulate...and knowing that i'm not getting any younger (41 in nov.) i had to try the clomid..so i didn't have a dr. to check hcg levels or progesterone levels...the week before i m/c my dr. put me on progesterone..my level was a mere 2..sad i know..trying to be the optimist and focus on what i have learned and what i can do to help achieve and maintain a pregnancy now...i'll post again when something happens..thanks again..

Yvette- what was your HCG when you miscarried? the level your progesterone was at wasn't even at high enough to be considered ovulation, much less the week before ovulation. My last pregnancy loss my progesterone was 8.4 and basically said that was hardly high enough to have ovulated much less pregnant.

Progesterone in Pregnancy
When Normal Values What Level Means
Mid-Luteal Phase 5+ ng/ml As mentioned above, a level of 5 indicates some kind of ovulatory activity, though most doctors want to see a level over 10 on unmedicated cycles, and over 15 with medications. There is no mid-luteal level that predicts pregnancy.
First Trimester 10-90 ng/ml Average is about 20 at 4 weeks LMP, and 40 at 14 weeks LMP. It is important to note that while a higher progesterone level corresponds with higher pregnancy success rates, one cannot fully predict outcome based on progesterone levels.___
Second Trimester 25-90 ng/ml Average is 40 at beginning, 90 at end. ____
Third Trimester 49-423 ng/ml Usually peaks at about 175.
