Yesterday I was supposed to start a new clomid/IUI cycle, but when they did the blood test, it came back positive at 24. I didn't even think I ovulated, but I must've on CD36. Unfortunately, my progesterone was 0.4 and I have been bleeding for 4 days and my RE thinks I am going to miscarry. I had more bloodwork today and my HcG went up to 33, but my progesterone is still under 1. They won't give me supplements and want me to let nature take it's course, i.e they want me to miscarry. What should I do? I called my ob/gyn and they agree with the RE, that it is not a viable or healthy pregnancy. I think I might go buy some natural progesterone cream at the pharmacy and start using it tonight. They want more blood on monday...

I forgot to add that I am about 4w4d. Also, my question is:
Is my progesterone low because it is a bad egg or is the pg not viable because the progesterone is low??

Dear tweety, ....go ahead and try the natural progesterone cream, it won't hurt. Sometimes progesterone is low cause the corpus luteum which makes the progesterone doesn't have the energy to produce more or the progesterone can be low cause the pregnancy may be ending. There are many women who have had low progesterone and had viable pregnancies. If the HCG is doubling it is most likely viable. Let us know how your bloodwork goes.

I was just talking to my friend who had twins through IVF and she said her progesterone was only 4 and she was on supplements 3x daily! Her boys turned 3 last week and are happy and healthy! :)

Hi Tweety...my progesterone was only 3 at 4 weeks and I am now 12 weeks and everything seems to be ok. I was on suppositories 200mg once a day and stopped them yesterday! Hang in there...and have faith that everything will be ok. I was also bleeding like crazy at 4 weeks with clots...and here i am now 8 weeks later and the baby is healthy and doing fine

Thanks Allicat. That's very encouraging. I hope the rest of your pg is uneventful and you have a beautiful baby to love and cherish.

Hi, I'm just going through my second m/c (see above). I'm still bleeding (for 2 weeks now) and they said they might have to do the D&C after all. Oh no, I was hoping to avoid that. For some reaseon the D&C was the most traumatic part last time.
Anyway, my question is now for the next time:
Does anyone have experience with when to start taking the progesterone? Should I take it after I ovulate (and is that usually pills or cream?) or do I wait until I think I'm pregnant and then take the cream? Could that be too late? I just want to make sure I do everything right next time.

Suse, I'm going to direct you to a website that may help to give ideas how you can miscarry with the help of herbs and maybe you won't need the D&C.....after you ovulate, 3 days past ovulation, begin the progesterone. I prefer the Crinone, also know as Prochieve v____al gel.

I am in the same boat. I went to my first prenatal visit and I had some spotting. My nurse practioner ordered a sonogram to make sure everything was okay. I was measuring five and half weeks when I should have been 6.5 wks. They did some blood work and my progesterone level was 9.6. I was started on Prochieve to raise my levels. I have another sonogram in 2 wks. Hopefully everything with be okay.

Well, my beta was doubling so my RE gave me P4 supplements. They did increase my P4 levels, but my beta dropped and I am m/c. Next cycle I am using supplements starting at 3dpo!

I'm 35 today and after 1 normal pregnancy 13 years ago and 2 miscarriages. I am 8 wks pregnant today, on Wednesday we found out that we are having twins. My progesterone level last week was 5.5 so the dr. put me on suppositories when i had blood drawn yesterday they said my level only went up a point and my hormone levels aren't doubling like they would like so i have to go back in Monday and I doubled my intake of the supp. is there anything else other than medically that i can do that can hopefully save my pregnency??

...tweety, am very sorry. i suppose it wasn't a viable pregnancy. don't think that if you took the progesterone at 3 dpo it may have not happened, what i'm trying to say it sounds like you may blame yourself and that is not the case. prochieve is a good progesterone v____al gel. i highly recommend it. i use it too.
...sarah, hope everything will be fine when you go for your sonogram. you may have ovulated later than you thought.
....goldsmith, I read that the herb Vitex can prevent miscarriage. maybe you'd like to do research on it? keep on with the progesterone, the hcg still has time to double.

Hi everybody, I'm so grateful for this site. This is my first time on, as far as I know, progesterone is healthy for our bodies, and has been in use for some time without harm to the fetus. I've had two miscarriages and the dr wants me to get an early test for pregnancy this time around so that she can test my progesterone levels early. I'm nervous too, but your comments are giving me hope. Does anyone know how often we should test our progesterone levels, and around which time of our cycle? good luck everyone, there's definitely a positive energy between us all that is rea__suring!

hi lavender. in the menstrual cycle progesterone testing is done mid luteal phase and some doctors suggest going more than once in that cycle. Mid luteal varies from woman to woman. Some women have 10 days, 11, 12, 13, etc. how long is yours? if you can learn that then go in the middle of it, a few days before that and a few days after that to get a better idea of how progesterone fluctuates and if your levels are ok.
