Progesterone Level

hi lavender. in the menstrual cycle progesterone testing is done mid luteal phase and some doctors suggest going more than once in that cycle. Mid luteal varies from woman to woman. Some women have 10 days, 11, 12, 13, etc. how long is yours? if you can learn that then go in the middle of it, a few days before that and a few days after that to get a better idea of how progesterone fluctuates and if your levels are ok.

p.s lavender, best wishes. keep telling yourself that even if your progesterone is low your doctor will prescribe supplementation for you.

Hi, see my story above. After almost 5 weeks of bleeding I had the D&C yesterday. We thought it wouldn't be necessary this time, but the hcg didn't drop. I hope I can finally move on now. I just wanted to share two things I recently learned: Get your thyroid checked. TSH is normal from 0.4 - 4 but if you have progestrone problems it should be under 2, preferably around 1. If it is higher, it might block progestrone production. If you are taking progesterone v____al creme, your blood progestrone level might stay low, because the progesterone is absorbed by the cervix right away. That means the baby might get enough, even if the levels don't increase much. Hope that helps.

I am about 5 weeks pregnant & I have been spotting since two days after conception. We had an ultrasound last Friday & the doctor was able to see a gestational sac. He told me that a lot of women spot during their first trimester. I did more labs on Monday & my progesterone level is at a 9. I have to do more labs tomorrow morning & I will speak to the doctor tomorrow afternoon. I am so worried about this. I miscarried a little over a year ago & this will be our first child. Does anyone know if it's too late for the doctor to start me on the supplements & will the baby be ok if we use them?

robwaldrep, you should take the progesterone. It doesn't hurt and it's worth trying. Hope all is well.

Hi everyone. I am 6 weeks pregnant and have been on prometrium and cronin since 4 weeks. My HCG levels are great, but progesterone has fluctuated from 9 to 19 to 17.5 at my last appointment last Wednesday. I am praying (of course) that everything is tracking along a somewhat normal course, but I am not sure. Your comments have helped tremendously. I have not had any spotting and only a few pregnancy symptoms (i.e. tiredness, tender b___sts). Is anyone both on cronine and prometrium? Thanks!

I need some rea__surance...On 7/18/06, my hcg was 1061 and my progesterone was 14.8. I took another blood test on 07/21/06 and my hcg was 1961 and progesterone was 10.6. I started taking 200 mg of prometrium last night and am going to see the doctor this afternoon. I have had 3 mc's and the nurse did not seem optimistic...or maybe I'm just paranoid :( HELP! Carolyn

I am 24 years old and i have two healthy children with which I had text book pregnancies. When I got married and my husband (who is not my boys' father) and I tried having a baby we got pregnant fine and everything was fine, with no reason at all, I went to my 16 week check up and our baby had pa__sed. All the doctor said was sorry. We got pregnant again and had a miscarriage at 4 weeks. I am currently 10 weeks pregnant now. We went to a new doctor who found that my progesterone is very low. It was 6.2 at 5 weeks. I am currently on Prometrium, and yes after 5 weeks I am still quite nauseated and tired, however, my level is up to 10.8 as of today. I have had 3 ultrasounds all with fetal heart tones and my little bean is doing fine. I even heard the heartbeat yesterday at my appointment from the outside with the doppler and it was 160-165! My doctor does not seem to be concerned and he is very optimistic as are my husband and I. I get my blood drawn again thursday along with another ultrasound so I'll let you know. I am very suprised to see how many of us are in the same situation. We all will be fine:)

Allie have you gone for your third beta. Keep taking your progesterone. We're hoping the best for you and baby.

iveigail, even though, from the women I speak to on this message board: http://www.ovusoft.com/ take both, Crinone is excellent and stays concentrated in the uterine lining. From what I know about it, this alone should be enough. I suppose it can't hurt to take both. The Prometrium goes into your bloodstream, the Crinone stays concentrated in the lining, most of it.

Alliekat, how are things going?

I had to have an hysterectomy at 33; but, God has blessed me by allowing my cousin to be with child for the first time after 15 years of praying. But, even though her HCGs are going up; she had low Progesterone levels. therefore, her doc put her on prometrium 200mg 2xdaily to help . She has seen the baby on two Ultra's and even seen the heartbeat. She is now 8 weeks. She still cramps but the spotting has been absent for almost 12 hrs now....so, we are praying all will be well. I am so glad to see that this is also helping other mommy to be's out there! The only side effect she has seen is being tired.... but she has only been on the pmetrum for a a few days... please pray for her.... as I will be praying for each of you. I know what it is like to desperately want to be a mom.... all my prayers and wishes to each of you!! tonya

When I went to the doctor that day, they did an u/s and found a gestational sac that measured about 5 weeks which was not as far along as I thought I was. The doctor was not concerned about the P level and said it is really not a reliable indicator of a successful pregnancy since there is such a wide range of levels (even the time of day makes a difference). He said the best way to monitor a pg is by ultrasound so he had me come back in a week for another one. It showed progression but all they could see was the yolk sac and wanted me to come back after two weeks. Unfortunately, I started spotting last Saturday. I called the office and they told me to stay off my feet and call for an appt on Monday if it continued or got worse. It did so I went in for u/s and they said there had not been much progression and it looked like the sac was collapsing. He feels like a mc is imminent so I think I'm going to schedule a d&c to get it over with. My dh and I are okay, this was not planned and with my history of mcs (this will be my 4th) we were afraid it would not take. We are done with this roller coaster and I hope to get my tubes tied when I get the d&c. Thanks for responding and keeping up with me :)

Allie I am really sorry to hear your news. I had a ultrasound yesterday and my baby is measuring fine, I am 12 weeks now. Glad to be over the first hump, however still anxious. My progesterone is at a normal level now and things are going fine.

I started on progesterone vag supp 200mg/2xper day. Has anyone ever had high progesterone levels after taking the supp? How high did they reach, is it safe to have very high progesterone levels?
