I started on progesterone vag supp 200mg/2xper day. Has anyone ever had high progesterone levels after taking the supp? How high did they reach, is it safe to have very high progesterone levels?

I am in a similar position, but this site gives me hope. I have had 2 misscarriages somewhere between 6-10weeks. This time they are monitoring my levels and I am 4 weeks pregnant: HCG 308 and progesterone 12.9. I know they are on the low range, but I am taking 200mg progesterone daily. I can only hope and pray that it will work out this time. I am going to get my HCG levels again tomorrow and will know more by Monday. Thanks for all the words of wisdom!

HI. I just wanted to comment on the use of progesterone. I sent an earlier comment when I was 6 weeks pregnant, and now I am almost 15 weeks. My RE had me on progesterone supplements (oral) and crinone for the beginning weeks of my pregnancy. I truly believe that if it had not been for my use of the progesterone supplements early in my pregnancy (from weeks 5 to 9) I probably would have miscarried. I started with a very very low progesterone level and it steadily increased until my placenta took over around week 10. So, for those that are questioning their value, I just want to suggest that you stay positive and continue to take them . . . I am definitely an advocate! Best wishes.

I am 5 weeks pregnant and have a progesterone level of 8.8. The doctor gave me progesterone vagilnal supasitories. I pray that everything goes well for all of us.

Sharon, Most women will stay on progesterone until your 12th week then your placenta will take over and make the progesterone. I was also on progesterone supplements and now I am 18 weeks and doing fine.

I am 4wks and my progesterone was at 9 on last Friday. My Dr. told me my HCG levels were good, just the progesterone. I rushed home very upset, and hit the Internet. Everything else we read was so very negative. I was very comforted after reading messages here from real people in the same position I am in. The rest of the weekend was spent resting and taking 400 mg of Premitrium. This morning I retuned to the Dr's office to get tested, and informed them that over the wknd I had decided that I did not wish to test every 48 hrs that I was ready to deal with whatever God had in store for me. She said that was fine. Around 4 pm today she called me with my results and my progesterone was up to 20.5! We could not believe it. We actually scheduled my first ultrasound for 2wks from now. Until then, I will continue to do all I can and leave the rest up to Him. I just had to register to tell everyone Thank you and Hang in there. My prayers are with all of you. It takes so much to make these miracles of life happen.

My doctor calculated that I was 5 weeks 4 days pregnant and could not find the embryo on the US, 3 days later we found it, it looked like a black dot on the US, a week later it had grown to look like a peanut, but no heartbeat and my progesterone level was 11, I was put on oral prometrium and sent to a specialist with a more high tech US, they found the heart beat and it turns out I'm a week earlier than the calulation from my last menstrual period estimated. After 5 days on prometrium my progesterone level is 67...so there is hope!!! The supplements may reduce the risk of a miscarriage due to low progesterone levels and get you to 10 weeks when the placenta takes over producing progesterone.

I found out I was pregnant and went to the Dr last week. He did a us and saw the baby but no heartbeat. I was only 5 weeks. He ordered blood work and it came back that my progesterone was low 14.40 so they put me on premeturm 200mg twice a day....yes it makes me sick and tired! So I went back yesterday for a us and we heard the heartbeat 107 and everything looked good. I have to give more blood on thursday and another us next monday. I'm very nervous...I did have a miscarriage 2 years ago at 6 weeks. Started bleeding and cramping. This pregnancy I don't have any bleeding or cramping!! So I hope everything is ok :)

I have had 2 miscarriages in the past year. Both times, I was using a midwife and their response to bleeding is, "Good luck"...the last miscarriage, 9/19/06, I had to have a D&C. Next time, I am using an OB/GYN and will have my levels checked ASAP. A friend of mine had the same thing, early bleeding. Her MD put her on progesterone and eveything is looking good...I wish I had seen a doctor. Good luck to all..

This is my second pregnancy. My first was a miscarriage about 2 1/2 years ago. My husband and I got a little suprise when we found out that we were expecting. I had some bleeding so I went to the ER. I had tons of tests run on me. Blood work, a pelvic exam, a Pap, a v____al ultrasound, and a regular ultrasound. They had to catheterize me so that they could fill up my bladder with water to see the baby. They ended up seeing a sac so we were very relieved. I have been having blood work done this week. I haven't had any bleeding so I thought that everything was ok. I got my latest results back today and my HCG levels are increasing but not doubling and my progesterone is at 8. The doctor thinks that I am almost 6wks. I am supposed to take progesterone this weekend and then get more blood work and another ultrasound on Monday. I am praying for a miracle that the baby and I will pull through this. Thank you everyone for sharing your stories. They have been inspirational and comforting to me. -Becky

I've had 2 mc in the past both from 6-7 wks. I am 4 1/2 wks pregnant now. My Hcg levels have been rising well, but my progesterone level dropped from 18 to 15. My doc said it's not really all that low, but given my history, he is starting my on Prometrium 100mg orally once a day. I have read that progesterone supplementation has not been proven to decrease the incidence of mc, but after reading all these stories, I think it absolutely helps! I have also read that the cream or suppository forms are more beneficial than the pill. Does anyone know about that? Thanks for all your stories...they've really helped!!

I'm 5w4d pregnant. I started to experience some spotting a few days ago. I went in for a blood test to confirm my pregnancy last week and when I got the result back, the doctor prescribed prometrium and had me come back for another blood test. I've been taking prometrium for about a week now. I went to see the doctor yesterday and got the 2nd blood test result as well. I was really worried about the spotting. I already had a miscarriage 4 months ago and it started out with spotting. Last time, spotting went on for weeks - until I had a D&C. After doing an ultrasound yesterday, the doctor said the baby seems fine and I just need to stay off my feet. This was a little rea__suring except my old doctor told me the same thing and I ended up having a miscarriage anyways. I have another ultrasound next week and still am spotting. When you guys go on progesterone, do you continue to spot or does the bleeding stop? Please advise.

Hello, All - This post is meant to provide hope to those of you I know are feeling so scared and confused right now in regards to progesterone. I am 33 years old and I had two normal, healthy pregnancies 6 and 4 years ago. In the spring of 2006, my husband and I decided to add a third child to our family. We got pregnant with our first two on the first try. We started trying for the third baby in March and got pregnant in May. I scheduled a prenatal appt. for 10 weeks and a__sumed that everything would be fine. It wasn't. I miscarried in June and was devastated. We decided to try again as soon as we got the green light from the obgyn and ended up pregnant again in September. Because of the recent loss, the doctor wanted to see me immediately. I went in the next day to have the HCG and progesterone levels determined. At that point I was barely 4 weeks along. The HCG came back at 52 and the progesterone at 9.5. They checked again a week later and the HCG was 804 and the progesterone dropped to 8.8. The doctor told me that they would begin progesterone injections the following day. I would be receiving a shot (100 cc) twice a week. After two weeks (4 injections) my blood was tested again. The progesterone level had risen to 13.8. The doctor was pleased with the results and decided to continue with the current dosage and frequency. I went for my first ultrasound during this time as well. I was about 6 weeks along and the scan showed a gestational sac, a fetal pole, and heartbeat of 104 bpm. After another two weeks of 100 cc shots, the level of progesterone had only gone up to 13.9. Around 9 weeks, I woke up on a Sunday morning and had some spotting. Because it was a Sunday, my doctor told me to go to the ER to a__sess the situation. I was a mess...crying, praying, feeling certain this was the end. After numerous tests, I ended up having another ultrasound that showed a 9.5 week-old baby with a healthy heartbeat of 168. I was so relieved...especially after reading all the negative articles on the internet. It was then decided that my progesterone was not rising sufficiently, so the doctor decided to increase my dosage to 200cc two times a week. It is not fun (my rear end is VERY sore), but I realize that I need to do whatever I can to help this baby along. When I went in for my prenatal appointment at 10 weeks, I had yet another ultrasound that showed a healthy baby with a strong heartbeat of 172. I am now 13 weeks along and am still anxious and worried every single day. I want this baby sooooooo much and it has definitely been an emotional and physical struggle so far. I am frequently crampy, and have had a yellowish/ golden/ tanish v____al discharge throughout the entire pregnancy. I do believe, however, that the injections have been a very important part of my ability to make it this far. There were many, many times I was certain I had lost the baby. God has been on my side, however, and I do have faith that I will meet my third little miracle in May. I have my 2nd prenatal appt. this Monday and will hopefully hear a heartbeat with the dopplar. I doubt even that will allow me to relax 100%, but with every week I gain more confidence. For those of you who are doubting the benefits of progesterone, I would say to you that it is important to at least TRY. At worst, it is an incovenience. At best, it may save the life of your baby. My very best wishes and heartfelt prayers to all of you.
