This gives me some comfort to know other women are experiencing similar things! I miscarried in Sept and am currently 6 wks, 2 days.I began spotting (dark brown) last week and went to my dr the next morning. The ultrasound revealed a large blood clot. Much to my relief we did see the yolk sac. I'm now on day 6 of bedrest and increased doses of prometrium and have not experienced any spotting since my last episode. I'm hoping this is a good thing! I go in this Thurs for another u/s where the blood clot will have hopefully reabsorbed and we see a heartbeat. My greatest fear is what the dr referred to as "sac separation" where the clot literally tears the sac from the uterine wall. Has anyone had this diagnosis or experienced "sac separation" ???

I am 8 weeks and 3 days today. I got pregnant right after I miscarred in November without waiting for A/F or 1 cycle... and knock on wood, so far so good. I have been spotting since 5.5 weeks... first it was brown staining, then spotting and last weekend I had blood... I thought I was miscarrying again. I was terrified but then after 20 minutes the blood stopped and turned brown. I didn't spot when I as pregnant before and had a blighted ovum which was revealed in an 8 week ultrasound. I went today for an ultrasound and all looks GREAT. I saw the head and a strong heartbeat. The doctor said that all is normal and that the staining and bleeding is the placenta bleeding a little bit but not to worry. I just have to live with it. It's so hard because when I finally miscarried on my own in November it started as brown staining and then turned to blood. No pregnancy is the same, it's all different. 1 in 4 women will bleed and having spotting during their healthy pregnancies.

Elaine- glad to hear everything is coming along smoothly, I can only imagine your relief!! Best of luck to you in the coming weeks, keep us posted! When you had a blighted ovum did you miscarry on your own or have a D&C? My fear is that tomorrow I'll find out I have a blighted ovum or the hematoma overcame the ovum...this not knowing is the absolute worst! Again, best of luck with this pregnancy!!

Hi Kristind, Thanks for your positive feedback. I miscarried on my own with the help of misoprostol. Pills that I inserted v____ally to induce contractions to open up my cervix. It really didn't work , it took another week before I actually miscarried... I'm sorry for what you're going through, but maybe there's still hope that the baby is fine. It's a very difficult time as we are always waiting for news, waiting to see the doctor. Reading other people's experiences really helped me get through the worst. I knew that once I miscarried I was determined to get pregnant again and I was not going to wait for 1 cycle. One of my best friends is an OBGYN and told me it's safe to get pregnant right away whether you have a D&C or not. My own OBGYN gave me permission to get pregnant right away. He said to do what I needed to do to move on with my life. I needed to start my family. I'm 32 and I've wanted to have children since I was 25 but I only got married last year and my husband wanted 1 year all to ourselves. I wanted to get pregnant on our honeymoon. Life is full of anticipation. You will be fine no matter what happens. I got through having a blighted ovum at 8 weeks and I then officially miscarried at 10 weeks. Then it was 2 weeks after that that I ovulated. And voila we got pregnant. We were lucky and unlucky for our first try. We got pregnant right away but it didn't work out. So the good thing is that you know you can get pregnant. 3 of my friends have been trying for more than 2 years and are now going through INVITRO... and it will work out for them too, whether they adopt or get pregnant. We will all have children, it's all about timing. Best of luck to you and keep me posted.

Hello. I just went for my Dr. visit today and am now 19 weeks and 5 days. My Dr checked the babies heart beat and all is well. What scares me is that I just went to the bathroom and when I wiped the first time there was pink in my urine, but only when I wiped the first time. I am very scared due to the fact that this is my first child and because I was never suppose to have children due to my PCOS. I dont want to over react but it scares me. What would you all do?

Hi everyone! I was comforted to read many of your stories and sad to read others. I am 13 weeks pregnant with what I call my $50k baby (as that is what I had to spend on IVF and other to get here!) I started spotting at 10 weeks with red blood. It was a gush that drips out very quickly and then tapers off to brown blood in a day. It has now happened once a week for the last 3 weeks - same thing. The doctor says my cervix is closed and did a check for infection. My HCG and Progesterone are both very good and high, plus my blood work is good. I have not had any intercourse or exercise for the last 3 weeks as he has put me on bed rest. I had 3 ultra sounds in the last 3 weeks. The first two looked great with no blood behind the yolk sac or anywhere else in the uterus. There was blood at the opening of the cervix and that is the only place it could be found. I am waiting today to hear the results of my latest ultrasound but the baby looked great on it from what I saw - moving around with a heartbeat of 148. My uterus is growing normal also. The doctor said it may just be that my cervix is very sensitive and that is why it bleeds but at the same time he is concerned. I have had mild cramps off and on for the last week or so but nothing like a period cramp. Anyone else have this diagnosis before? I feel like I am safer because I am in the 2nd trimester now but still very concerned. Thanks!

I am so relieved to have found this site. It is rea__suring to know other women are experiencing the same thing. I am 32 years old and almost 6 weeks with my first baby. I started spotting a light brown color for two days. my nurse said it was old blood and probably nothing to be concerned about however I had my blood drawn to check my hormone leveIs and I have an u/s scheduled for Friday 2/10/06. I hope everything turns out for the best for all of us. God Bless.

PC - Like you, I've been on bedrest for about 3 weeks now. It's hard not to let your thoughts get the best of you! I have been bleeding off and on for the past 3 weeks or so. I'm 8 wks 5 days and have been going to the dr every week for an u/s. So far, all looks good (my progesterone levels, fetal heartbeat, etc). I'm told the brown discharge I'm having is "old blood" and not to worry unless it turns pink or bright red. Sometimes this is comforting, sometimes not! I do have a clot next to the gestational sac that is quite large. Yours seems to be targeted at the cervix and maybe just old blood and nothing more! Hang in there and don't give up! The fact that you're in your 2nd trimester is definitely a bonus, too. Keep us posted and best of luck!

I'm 11 weeks and 3 days today and after heavy bleeding and clots for 3 hours straight my baby is in good health, it's a miracle. Here's the story. I have already seen the baby's heart beat at 6.5 weeks and 8.5 weeks... all looks good. To this day I've been spotting blood and brown since I was 5.5 weeks pregnant. This morning however, I woke up, got out of bed and gushed blood all over my pajama pants. I rushed to the toilet and blood was coming out very quickly and then clots. I jumped into the shower and for more than half an hour the blood clots kept coming and the red blood was continuous. I started to panic and hyperventilate. I was able to get out of the shower and called my OBY GYN and 7:30am in the morning. By 8am he had called me back and told me to come in and see him immediately. I was soaking a pad every 5-10 minutes. When I got to his office, I thought for sure I was miscarrying, I miscarried in November and the blood and the clots were exactly the same. To my surprise, the baby was scratching it's head, kicking and doing summersaults in my tummy. I can't believe my baby is alive and healthy, I have never heard of anyone bleeding this heavily with clots and the baby is fine. He said my cervix is closed but it's the edge of the placenta that's releasing the blood and just to lay low. He didn't even tell me to go on bedrest. It's really crazy. Anyhow, my story is very abnormal but there is hope even if you've been bleeding even with clots. They say that as soon as they see the heartbeat your chance of miscarriage goes down from 20% to 2%. I hope that helps others of you out there that are spotting or bleeding, there's still a good chance the baby is fine. I'm living proof. I will keep you posted. I am still bleeding red fresh blood just like a heavy period but my doctor told me to wait for it to pa__s and it should be fine.

I went to the hospital on monday because i took a home pregnancy test, well two and they were both positive, and id say it was about two days later i woke up bleeding, but not enough to fill a whole pad, the hospital gave me a exam and my cervix was closed. they gave me a ultrasound and didint see know baby, but figured it would be to early to see the baby. i have a app. with doc on valentines day to make sure if i'm pregnant or not. i bleed kinda heavy and with clots for two days and the next couple real light. last valentines day i miscarried, and i feel like this valentines day i'm going to do the same thing. i really want this baby. last time i lost one i bleed brown for three days and stared bleeding heavy, so when i see blood and i'm pregnant i'm scared. I have had one pregnancy one time and had him at the end of my 7th month. he was 2Ib and 3 ounces. CAN YOU STILL HAVE BLOOD CLOTS AND BE PREGNANT?
