Subchorionic Bleeding

Hello all- I just spent awhile reading all of your posts. It is so helpful to read all of your stories I, like Carla, discovered I had a sch after a car accident this past Wednesday. It was so scary...all I could think about was the baby. They performed an ultrasound at the hospital and another yesterday at the ob/gyn office. They told me that the sch was there before the accident and it could not have been caused by the accident. I am currently 11 weeks and the baby was growing healthy and had a good heartbeat. I haven't experienced any bleeding during my entire pregnancy. I guess my concern is that I wasn't told anything about bedrest, no lifting or no s_x, or what my chances were of keeping the baby. They seemed to act like everything is fine but if they are sending me back and forth for ultrasounds, everything must not be alright. I guess I need to make a phone call to the doctors office on Monday. i'm finding it hard to find info. on the net about people in my situation that aren't bleeding...

I am 7wks5 days and was diagnosed with a subchorionic bleed at 5 wks. I've had only mild brown spotting and one incident of bright red blood which lasted for an hour. I haven't bled for two weeks. I have been reading your posts and wanted to tell you that I read an article (a medical study) that indicates all but the highest risk categories have a less than 20% chance of miscarriage with a subchorionic bleed. The keys to look for (according to this article) are the percentage of the amniotic sac that is surrounded by the bleed (less than 2/3rds is good), your gestational week (the later the better) and mother's age (under 35 is best). It was very encouraging to read the article after having read so many others that say any woman who has bled has a 50/50 chance of m/c. I am trying to find this article so I can pa__s along the link--no luck yet. I think that a lot of these scenarios work themselves out by the body reabsorbing the bleed. Also, I did read that bedrest or modified actiivity is a__sociated with better pregnancy outcomes. Good luck to everyone.

Becky - I never really did have discharge after the main bleeds. The time that I thought was a discharge ended up being a 2nd tear. Are you still having weekly ultrasounds? How long do they think that the infection will take to clear up? I am 25 wks now so if the baby were to be born it would have a chance at survival. That has given me so much relief. My other fun has been that my daugher (20 months) has decided that she wants to use the potty! I am so pysched that she might be out of diapers by the time the baby is born. Nat - thanks for the post. That is interesting info. I know my Dr. was sure that everything would clear up on its own after my first tear since it was small. It was the 2nd that put me in the high risk state. Did you find any articles about what might cause them or if you have a higher chance of reoccurerance with subsequent pregnancies?

SarahS--I have not found anything linking prior subchorionic bleeding with increased future chances. Also, I have read that many subchorionic bleeds are not traceable to a specific cause, but that they can often be caused during the implanation process. The articles I've read liken the process to digging in your yard to plant a tree and accidentally hitting a water line. At any rate, in my case, my doctor seems pretty convinced that mine was caused by implantation and that initially it was very small, but that through some kind of disturbance (possibly overdoing it at yoga and work) the bleed was dislodged or aggravated and grew. Anyway, I have mostly found very encouraging information which has been a tremendous relief---as I've suffered two prior m/c and have yet to have a child. Even still it is difficult not to be freaked out at all times. I have another u/s tomorrow and can't wait to see whether the bleed has shrunk or moved etc. I'll report back tomorrow!

Hi my name is Denise and i've been diagnosis with small subchorionic bleed.I'm very scared.I haven't had any bleedding but i'm scared that it could happen at any time.I will be 8 weeks tomorrow which is valentines day.I would love to celebrate but i'm just to scared to move around alot.My doctor told me not to worry but it's hard not too.I have two other children and it's hard not to move.My other pregnancies went fine but some how i feel that this is my fault.Am i wrong for feeling this way?I pray to God that all goes well.I'm so depress about the whole situation.I just hate the fact that i just don't know the outcome. But i will continue to pray and keep my head up.

Denise - My Dr. rea__sured me several times that nothing we do causes these bleeds. She also said that bedrest hasn't really been proved to help them heal, but it might and that it is more for peace of mind than anything else. So, take it easy as much as you can and stop blaming yourself. My greatest comfort though all of this was to remember that all the days of my child's life had already been ordained by God. This wasn't a surprise to Him.

Hi everybody...Hope all is well...Happy Valentines! I see we have some new people to the site, welcome along Nat, Denise and Kira...Hello Sarah..Hope all is well and I cant wait till I get to that 25week mark to stop freaking out...Lets see...To all who is new...I had a very large bleed, pushing baby to other side and seperating the amniotic sac...I am 6wk to 7wks of bed rest and my bleeding has finially slowed down to almost nothing...Thank god...When I came home from the hospital, the doctors told me that my faith and family and friend support is the only thing that is going to get this baby here....So strict bedrest was in effect of 4weeks of laying in bed and using bedpans, which is horrible.. but I am farther along then the doctors ever imagined...I for the last 2weeks have been puttering around the house and sneaking out every once in a while to do somethings for myself...So remember dont stress, relax and let your body heal and try to enjoy this moment for it will be a story to tell your little one, when it comes into this world...Sarah...My infection is almost gone, but I wont know until the doctors tomarrow..Well everybody have a great day and I will check in soon...

Denise - February 14

Thank you Sarah S for your word's of comfort.I just didn't know what to think. My doctor kept saying everything was fine but it' s just something deep down inside that's makes me feel a different way.Like for example i went to the doctor yesterday and she said everything was fine and she wanted me to go have another ultrasound done but on the slip she gave me had threatend Ab.Does that mean threatend abortion? Now that scares me all over again after she said i was doing fine.I know i'm doing o.k because i don't have any bleeding but it's words like that ,that makes me think other wise. But me being who i am will remain positive and pray and keep my faith.I have an ultrasound next tuesday so like i said i will remain positive. Thank you for your support and Happy valentine's Day everybody.

Denise - February 14

Hey Denise....AB is possibly meaning abruption...I had the large bleed and it wasnt until the bleed started to get smaller that they seen it was a placenta abruption that had happened...I am seeing a ob/gyn and a perinatalogist...I highly suggest getting second opinions and seeing one of those doctors because they have gone to school longer and specialize in these things..exspecially high risk pregnancy...My doctors didnt want to tell me anything, but you could see it all over their faces and I flat out told them not to candy coat this for me because I need to cope with the real truth and work through that if I was going to lose my baby...Thats why they told me my faith in god and my friends and family and strict bedrest is the only thing that is going to get this baby here...O, I even went to a University of Maryland medical center whom has a level 4-5 Neonatal intensive care center for a 3rd opinion...They told me the same thing..The hospital that I am being seen is a level 2 NICU meaning they arent equiped enough for a preemie under 30weeks..So it is good to check your options just incase you have an early baby...Hope this can help you for now..Stay strong..

Denise - February 14

Yes becky it has helped so far because i couldn't think of what that Ab could have meant .Thank you for calming my nerves on that one.

Denise - I went to the ER with my first bleed (10 wks) and the diagnosis was threatened miscarraige. My Dr. explained that anytime you have bleeding in the 1st (maybe even 2nd) trimester that is the working diagnosis. They kept writing that on my sheet until eveything healed up at 20 wks. My Dr. said that was partly to make sure that the insurance would cover all of the extra ultrasounds and office visits. Maybe mention to your Dr. that you need him/her to be very clear with you about everything because you are worrying so much. All that stress isn't good for you. Also, you are paying them to take care of you, don't feel bad calling and asking questions. If they act as though you are a bother go somewhere else. You are your baby's number one advocate. Ok, I'm going to get off my soap box now! :)

Hi - I am Tessa and I thought I would join your group. I am 6w3d pregnant and although I have not been diagnosed with sub-chorionic bleeding - it makes me wonder if that is what I have. I have been having light bleeding for the last 26 days. (Mostly dark but a couple of days of some reddish brown). I had my Beta HCG levels taken last week and everything is normal. I had my first u/s today and everything was normal (they saw a heartbeat)- though she could not tell where the bleeding was coming from or why. I appreciate your message board and makes me feel very rea__sured reading your stories.

Sorry I have been missing in action girls. Starting to feel really tired and heavy. Had my gyno appt a couple of weeks ago and I had put on 6kgs in 4 weeks, so that is a total of 9kgs now and I am 26 weeks. Doc also confirmed bubs is hip to hip (transverse), which is causing my hip and tail bone pain and the reason why I am not going out all front. Bubs is just pushing out my hips and bum, like I didn't aleady have that lol. Becky - sorry I haven't replied to your email, will soon I promise. Sarah - hope you are well honey. There are some newbies in here I see, welcome ladies, and I am sure I can talk from my experience and the other ladies on here, if we can give you hope we would be so pleased. Nat thanks for that info, that is great, how rea__suring is that. There are quite a few of us who seems to be just soldering on now so that has to have beaten that 50/50 odds hey. Did you find that link, I would be interested to read. And I agree it possibly happened at implantation for me as my discharge started from 5 weeks. Denise - thinking of you honey, but even though they say bedrest won't a__sure anything I swear it helped me and my bub. So rest as much as you can, it can't hurt and can only help I reackon. Hi to you other lovely ladies Saraastm, Kira and sorry if I missed who else - hope all continues well for you, just stay positive. It helps!

Hello Ladies...Good news..Went to the doctors yesterday and my doctor thinks my bleed may have cleared up, but wont know for sure until friday when I get a u/s. I am still having all kinds of crazy symptoms and doctor is putting me out on long term disability..which stinks but am happy that I can stay home with pay until after my little one is born...I finally gained 5 pounds in this pregnancy, it took 3weeks but the doctor was happy..My infection has cleared up, but I am still contracting so in 3 weeks I am going to go onto a home monitoring system for the contractions..I am 21weeks and 5days today and baby is measuring 22weeks, so that makes me happy to know baby is growing...Cant wait till friday and hope everybody is hanging in there.Hello new ladies..Remember dark blood is old blood and not to worry because it has to come out and it may take a long time..Mine took 6weeks,,,try to rest, drink plenty of fluids and no lifting, reaching, pulling, bending...RED Bright blood is bad, so call 911 if it happens...Will check in soon and cant wait to tell you guys what friday will bring...

Hi Ladies, I am 13 wks +3 days preganent and was diagosed with subchorionic bleeding at 9 wks (my first ob visit). The measurement was 3 cm at that time. It went up to 5.9 cm at 11wks with active bleeding and cramping. The bloody discharge disappeared after 5 days. At 13 wks, the sono showed that the bleeding area is 9.1 cm x 2.3 cm, but I do not have any bloody discharge right now. Does anyone remember your measurements of the bleeding area? I am so uplifted by the good news and faith here. Good luck to everyone. This is my 3rd.
