Subchorionic Bleeding

I'm 7 1/2 weeks and was told by a friend, who is a radiologist, that I had a SCB on U/S. She said it was "tiny and has walled itself off", and also that it was not in a treatening position compared to the position of the fetus. She told me not to worry about it. I haven't had any bleeding or cramping. She did a favor to me by doing to U/S to detect a heartbeat, which was successful. Also, she said my pregnancy looked 5 weeks gestational age, and was confused because I said I was 7 weeks (LMP). She explained that radiologists go by gestatational age, and don't really concern themselves too much with LMP. She told her brother, who is my OB, that my scan was fine, but didn't mention the SCH. I don't see him for another two weeks. Should I be worried about this SCH? I'm 39; this is my 3rd pregnancy (first one was 18 years ago - I have a 17-year-old daughter; second one (about 15 years ago) ended in miscarriage at about 12 weeks - cause unknown). It was our 5th month of ttc, and I wasn't on any meds. But, because of my "advanced maternal age", I'm really scared and nervous of every little thing. Should I avoid exercise, s_x, etc.? Any advice would be most appreciated! Thx

First of all RELAX! At 5 wks I was also diagnosed with a "tiny sub" and here I am a 10 wks and my sub is totolly gone. Almost always these thing clear up on their own. But yes there are things you need to avoid such as s_x, exercise, lifting anything over 10 pounds and my doctor just informed me that even orgasm is not allowed because it can cause your uderus to contract. And try to get as much rest as you can, listen to your body and your baby. If you feel like your overdoing it then you probubly are. I really feel like we are the lucky ones, some women have subs that are much larger than thier babies or even multiple bleeds. Yours sounds alot like mine and it really is okay. Good luck to you.

i have a question for anyone please..i started beeding HEAVILY at 8 wks with sub.hemm. i am now at 9w6d. i was wondering if anyone has been spotting with brownish blood since thier beeding? it is not all day and doesn't cover a pad but it is like leftover blood fron the hemmorage just trying to discharge itself.(TMI). thanks for any input. God bless.

Lizzy - October 10

Yes this blood could be leftover...I had 2 SCH at the same time....After the bleed I spotted for about 4 days and then stopped for about 4 days...Then started spotting again for two-three weeks...You might spot during the healing process and as log as it is not bright red and not heavy there is little worry about...Heed drs advice...No s_x, no heavy lifting, relax...

thank you for your answer. it really put my mind at ease which can be hard to do when there is so much to worry about. thanks again. many blessings for healthy babies!

I'm not sure if this is what I had but I know it is possible to bleed A LOT, even with huge clots and the baby be ok. I did at 2 months and again at 3 1/2 months and now at five months and 3 ultrasounds later the baby is fine and the bleeding is gone. My placenta had ruptured at the place it meets the uterous and it healed up with no lifting or s_x for 3 weeks. So, don't feel like you have lost your baby, you may be fine.

Thanks so much for the website Diane. Thanks to all of you for your words of hope and encouragement! It is frustrating when the docs can't be real definitive. It helps to read about other people's experiences.

Kristen - October 10

Diane, I tried copying and pasting to find that website but it didn't work. Is it correct?

diane - October 11

Here is the link to that website again.....http://www.angelfire.com/home/joeynrobin/subchorionic.hematoma.html There is also a subchorionic hemorrhage group on yahoo....the girls in the group have all had sch's & most have gone on to have normal pregnancies. Diane

Kristen....sorry everytime I try to put that website on here an added space is in it. Just type this in.....http://www.angelfire.com/home/joeynrobin/subchorionic.hematoma.html....good luck, Diane

Me again...geez, I can't get type that website without those added spaces showing up, its weird. Joeynrobin should be all one word without a space. Diane

Im not sure if i have subchoionic bleedig but i think it may be it. I had my first u/s last tuesday and on saturday night about 30 min after intercourse i started bleeding bright nred with some small brown clots. Went to the ER and the doc did a pelvic exam and told me my cervix was open and that I would 90% be miscarrying. But told me to wait till the morning to have an u/s before deciding what to do. DUring the pelvic exam he also pulled something out, turned out to be a clot but looked grayish and he told me it could be some kind of membrane which would not have been good. in the morning the u/s showed a heartbeat and that the bebay looked exactly the same as the u/s done 3 dyas prior. IF the cervix was open as stated by the ER doc, there should not have been a heartbeat or anything. The bleeeding has stopped but i cant get over what made the ER doc state such badnews with out even knowing.THankfully my OBGYN showed up at the hospital and put me on bedrest for the week and is bringing me in for my first appt onthe coming monday. If the cervix is open, that means impending miscarriage right? So we are thinking the ER doctor mis diagnosed or didnt make the correct call. Anyway it was a horrible experience, I am now doing ok and hoping that everyting stays fine going forward.

lizzy - October 12

to sadie, what a horrible experience at the er. i know how terrified i was after bleeding so badly with clots and going to er..i can't imagine have had the er. doctor telling me that news. they are not specialists and i was so nervous having the er dr. give me a pelvic exam. i luckily heard the heartbeat. it is alll so tramatic. i am so sorry you went through that. i am just on 10 wks. waiting to get through 12 weeks so i can atleast feel a little safer. i do not think i will completely relax until baby is born. take care and God Bless!

Sadie - October 12

Thank your for the response lizzy. I am at 8 weeks now and am waiting anxiously to get to 12 weeks as well so i can feel a bit better. My first appt with the gyno is on MOnday and i have so many questios to ask! the bleeding has stopped, but there is some pinkish stuff very light after i wipe,I hope its nothing.

Jessica to Sadie - October 13

Sadie, That is an indication of the bleed healing itself!

lizzy to jessica and sadie - October 13

hey girls, i also have some spotting when i wipe. it is more of a brownish color. i had my sch almost 2 wks ago and have been spotting on and off ever since. as i read here and other places it seems to be normal to spot especially after a sch but i know that does not ease our minds because there is so much other stuff to read that says spotting is not good. after such a bad bleed i think we are in pretty good shape if you hear the little heartbeat. it took me a year to get pregnant with the fertlity dr... lots of pills and shots in the stomach to get here. i am over 40 so i am always worried. i just pray and thank God for my healthy baby.God got me through 3 trips to the er for extreme dehydration and ma__sive bleeding and the heart is still beating 165bpm. i am just going to buy a BellyBeat so i can hear the hearbeat mysef everyday. i will let ya'll know how it works. the dr. told me i could bleed off and on throughout the whole pregnancy and have a healthy baby. or the sch could just bleed itself out and then it will be done. who knows??!! i just want to hear the little heartbeat all the time for my own peace of mind. atleast i am still nauseous and sick and can harldy get out of bed. i think that is a good. good luck on monday sadie. i will thinking about you.
