Subchorionic Hematoma

I am at about 17 1/2 weeks and diagnosed with SCH. Does anyone worry about having s_x? I want to be close to my husband because he deserves my attention too. I think I have stopped even giving him any attention and I am worried. My question is... do I need to worry about contractions at this time? My doctor says intercourse is O.K., but my SCH is close to the cervix and I feel like I don't want to do anything that will harm the baby. I feel like I am also loosing my husband. I know I need to at least touch him so he knows I still love him, but I haven't even said that either. I feel like a mental wreck. He deserves much more than I am giving him now. Any suggestions on what I can do? He just waits for me to make the move. He is so patient but slowly shutting down. What is safe? Please help

Aruna - with regards to bed rest, personally me no I was never put on bed rest. I was admitted to hospital though during week 11 and was bleeding so heavy and put on bed rest apart from going to the toilet then, but that time my bleeding was heaviest! My consultant always a__sured me that he didn't feel it warranted bed rest and I listened to him and am now 29 weeks. I'm not saying he was right or wrong but personally no bed rest for me and I have a heavy 10 mth old daughter that I carry round with me and my pregnancy still progressed. Just my experience. Take care, Kathryn

Jasmine - glad things are looking up for you. Yes, I was told by my consultant that we are at a higher risk of premmie labour but only when we are bleeding. You see, when we bleed it irritates the uterus and in some cases can set off actual contractions that could end up starting labour. Not the norm though but they have to warn us I guess. I don't know about you but I felt crampy when I bled so guess it makes sense. Take care - I understand how you feel trying to rest with another baby to look after. My daughter was only 3 and a half mths when I feel pregnant with this SCH pregnancy so it's been a nightmare. I had no choice but to carry her round and lift her and she's a big baby. Didn't do me any harm though - now in week 29. Kathryn

Aruna- I had a Large SCH (almost a foot in length) at 15 weeks. This was after two major bleeds. My perinatologist put me on complete bedrest because of his fear of the clot touching the placenta. It has been 2 weeks on bedrest and I have not had any bleeding, only some of the clot breaking down. Bedrest is tough especially because I have two younger children, but I have lots of help. So I have to say I've seen benefits from it.

Jasmine- My doctors also mentioned preterm labor as a threat, but we didn't discuss it that much because at the time I was only 15 weeks. Well at 16 weeks my membranes ruptured on one of my twins. I have since learned that it doesn't have to occur during active bleeding, rather depending on the location of your SCH it can cause PPROM. It's been almost a week and I've yet to have a single contraction,so we're just praying we can make it until 23 weeks! If you google PROM there is a very informative site for preterm labor and rupture of membranes. Good Luck! We have an app. today to check on our boys!

I had a hematoma from week 8 to about week 17. I was never on bedrest (apart from a few days I put myself on it and things got a lot worse - clot doubled!). I'm now 35 and 1/2 weeks and have only just had my first contraction so baby is very unlikely to be premature (though head is already engaged and she's in the correct position). Hope things work out for you all.

Hi girls. Just a question. As much as I LOVE this website and was so grateful to have come across it, I find it a little difficult to keep track on conversations/answers to specific questions. It also takes like ten years for my computer to load up this page! I was wondering what you all would think about having a yahoo group website, where we can all post our questions/discussions in a more organized way. I already started working on something - hopefully it'll be done soon! Would anyone be interested in something like this?! I'll post the website (if you agree) once it's done! Jasmine :)

Jasmine - great idea. Count me in and let me know when it's up and running. Kathryn x

Apparently this already exists! I was just searching online to work on my own group, and came across a group that already exists (over 600 members). The website is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SCHGroup/ You have to write to the "owner" of the group to get membership approval. I'll be posting on both I guess! See you there!

Jennifer - October 7

Jasmine, I totally agree that we should figure out another plan because it takes my computer a million years to load up this web page. I'm going to write to the "owner" and hopefully I will be joining you all there. It's so nice to have people to talk to about this because no one else understands what we are going through.

Aruna, to answer your question I believe that bed rest has helped me. I'm surprised because I couldn't imagine working during a time like this. I'm actually in pain so I don't think I could make it on my feet. Everyone is different though so I'm sure your doctor knows what is best for you and your situation. If you are in pain then I would discuss that further with your doctor. I hope everything works out for you.

Hey everyone, had my doctor's appointment today and all went well. Actually the baby is ahead of his growth schedule so now according to my doctor I am 14 weeks, 3 days. With my past losses I was just so nervous about our appointment today. I don't know why considering I see my doctor every week for sonograms but I was. It was such a relief to see that the baby still had a strong heartbeat. And guess what? The clot has gotten smaller! She said I was doing great with drinking plenty of water she actually joked that I might float away! The amniotic sac was full of water and I have never seen it so big with this pregnancy. The only down side to the appointment and the past week is that I have begun having little contractions. They are pretty uncomfortable but she said she can't give me the medication to stop them because of the bleed. We also asked about Progesterone to strengthen everything but she said I am far past what help Progesterone can do. That kinda hurt to hear. Over all she was happy at how our appointment went today and so where we. I have an appointment next week with the perinatologist and of course that's always more nerve racking! The tests for down syndrome came back and we where within normal limits. I just pray that I stay pregnant until at least 26 weeks. My doctor said that babies between 24-26 weeks have it rough but 27 week babies seem to do just fine. All you can do is pray. Hope everyone else is doing well. - Jennifer @ 14.3 weeks

Aruna - No bedrest here, but I only had 1 bleeding episode for only 5 days. My doctor sounded like if I kept bleeding bedrest would be a possibility. My restrictions are no lifting, no exercise, no intercourse or orgasms, and rest as much as possible. Phyliss - I was told no intercourse but listen to your doctor, since it may depend on size, location etc. of the SCH what they recommend. Jasmine - I had not heard of preterm labor as a risk but I am curious. No one has really told me what happens if the SCH just remains through the whole pregnancy, how that affects things later on. (I'm 17 weeks). Great idea on the yahoo group. I will check out the one that was posted. I belong to an MSN group (not related to SCH), and it is much much easier to post than on this info.net site. Update on me: At my ultrasound yesterday there was again, no change or possibly slightly smaller. I feel like I'm just waiting to see what this thing wants to do, you know? I'm glad it's not getting worse but I would feel better if we started to see some improvement.

Monica - October 11

Update time! Yesterday we had our peri appointment (I'm going for 2 u/s per week now!) and both boys had great heartbeats! Baby A still has no visible fluid, but he had a full bladder and belly and that is good news. My doctors don't expect the membranes to reseal because I didn't have a leak, rather it was a full rupture. We are now 17w4d but the babies are measuring ahead by about 5 days, so we were again encouraged by that. My SCH is still ma__sive, but there has been no additional bleeding, so it has maintained its size-which is what we hoped for. My husband and I are really positive about all of this. If you want to see a website we created for our twins the address is : www.caringbridge.org/visit/monicamangin We've created the site to keep our family and friends updated. We were being overwhelmed by phone calls. So take a look at our boys. I'm praying for each of you!

Aruna - October 11

Thank you all for your helpful advice on bed rest. Last Friday was pretty bad. I had severe bleeding and pa__sed lot of clots. I went to my OB/GYN and was relieved to find out that the baby was doing fine. I have an appointment with the peri. on Nov. 1st and I am hoping that the hematoma would have reduced considerably. Good luck to all.

Amanda - October 18

Hi, I am a newcommer and have an intrauterine hematoma. I am not sure if it is subchorionic. I am only 8 weeks pregnant and it is much larger than the sack the baby is in.
