I’m so grateful to have found this forum, but have to say after reading all of the responses, I’m angry about the care I received.
I’ve had dark brown spotting at different points throughout my pregnancy, but it stopped around 8 weeks. At 10 weeks I had my first appointment. The midwife who examined me, said I may bleed after the exam because the cervix is very sensitive when you are pregnant. After having a reddish bloody discharge for 8 days and finally pa__sing a quarter-sized clot, I called the doctor about it. I was only told to not have s_x for a week, when according to everyone else’s posts, I should have been put on bedrest at that point.
A week later, I spent all day working in the yard, probably 8 hours pulling weeds, which I NOW know I shouldn’t have been doing. I took a shower and was resting on the couch when I felt a gush. Went to the bathroom and saw a ton of blood. I was sitting on the toilet and blood was pouring out of me, along with a bunch of clots. I was sure I was having a miscarriage. I was trying to get dressed to go to the hospital, but just walking from the bathroom to put on a pair of jeans, I had soaked through my pad. In about 10 minutes I went through 5 pads. After pa__sing a fist-sized clot (which I thought was our baby) the bleeding stopped.
We finally got to the hospital and were surprised to see our baby in the ultrasound kicking, flipping around, measuring at 13weeks 1day, with heartbeat of 182. We were shocked and ecstatic. I was told I had a “threatened miscarriage” (a blanket term in my opinion) and that the blood was coming from a blood clot that was breaking apart. The term “subchronic hematoma” was never mentioned and I wasn’t told to go on bedrest. We were sent home at 2am even though the bleeding had started up again. Stayed up all night bleeding and cramping. I think now I was having contractions and going through childbirth. The pain and bleeding were getting worse, so we decided to go back to the hospital. Just before we were about to leave, I had the worst pain yet, felt like I was going to pa__s out and needed to throw up, so I ran to the bathroom. Just then, I felt that something big was going to pa__s and the baby came out in the toilet.
My hubby pa__sed out after seeing the baby. I revived him and took our fully intact little baby out of the toilet and I’m pretty sure I saw boy parts. We’re still waiting on test results, but the diagnosis is still “threatened miscarriage” which is bs. I can’t help but feel that if I had been on bedrest, our baby would still be alive.

I was diagnosed last sunday with a subchorionic hemorrhage. I was having some cramping and went to the er. They did an u/s and alot of blood work. I am seven weeks. We saw the heartbeat and the dr said the baby looked fine. I am terrified. I have not had any bleeding yet and she put me on bed and pelvic rest . I didnt have any cramping all week. I made an appointment with my ob yesterday. I thought I would feel better but he was horrible. This was my second time seeing him. He was very cold. I was told are chances were like going to vegas. We had a 60/40 chance. He gave us a 60% chance because I have had no bleeding. I have read as much on the internet as I can about this and the odds seem to very. I have read a ton of success stories as well. He said whatever happens, happens and studies show bedrest has no effect on the outcome. I dont believe much of what he says and he doesnt quote from personal experience, just from studies that have been done. I asked him if he had experience with alot of these and he didnt even answer my question. I dont even know how big the hemorrhage is, he said it is behind the placenta. I have decided to contact the university of cincinnati hospital and see a physician there. My daughter was delivered there and they were wonderful. This is a terrifying time for me and he is making it worse. I was told if we hear a heartbeat at twelve weeks I wont get another u/s until I am twenty weeks. I cant not know for that long. I am looking to god for help and am trying to stay positive. This is my boyfriends first child. I wish everyone the best of luck. If you feel like you arent getting the care you deserve find another doctor. I was made to feel like the life I am carrying was nothing more than a gambling episode at a casino. Congradulations on all the milestones that have been met and I hope that I am just a successful. Good Luck to you all.

alicia, you hang in there. and get another opinion and doctor.and bedrest/pelvic rest does help. i see certified midwives and i'm a OB nurse. and i had ma__s amount of bleeding at 14 weeks witha active baby. im now 18 and have been on modified bed rest the first week was strick bedrest and the bleed stopped now ive been bleeding for 2 weeks a dark brown "old blood" and i have to say i have had several ultrasounds. about every week to every 2 weeks to see what my uterus clot is doing and good news is that the bleed at my placenta is healed and the one at the lower part of my placenta is gone and the clot that was 7.5 cm is now 5cm. the thing that concerns me about yours is that your bleed is behind the placenta, i would fear that it could prevent the placenta from doing its job. all i can say is really think positive, visiual the bleed stopping, pray, and rest, rest, rest. get a different dr! and know that your not alone.

I am 11.2 weeks pregnant. I was told I have Subchorionic Hematoma. This past Sunday I was lying in bed with my 6 year old daughter when I felt a gush. I went to the bathroom and when I sat down a ton of blood and clots came out. I was terrified. My husband & I went to the ER. The PA came in to do a pelvic exam to see if my cervex was closed but she had a hard time because there was so much blood ans she stated I was definately having a miscarriage. My husband & I were both very upset and I was in disbelief. She order an ultrasound and during the ultrasound we seen a strong heart beat with a perfect sac. The little ones heart beat was 161. The doctor sent me home on strick bed rest and I went to my high risk ob the next morning. hes stated my palcenta was tearing away from uterine wall about 3 cm wide. He told me basically there was nothing I could do to prevent a miscarriage or vice versa. That these things are out of our hands. I am so mentally drained and terrified. I don't want to lose my baby. How do you remain calm? I woke up this morning ans I still spotting a dark reddish brown. Does the bleeding go away? And when do you know everything is ok? Any guidance would greatly be appreciated!

This forum is a comfort for me. I found out I have a hematoma while I was on vacation in Germany. I thought I was miscarrying. The doctors there all perscribed bed rest, but when I got back to the states my Doctor said it wouldn't make any difference. My bleeding has ranged from bright red to pink to brown and black. I can't seem to quit thinking about our baby. We are at 8 weeks and 5 days, hopefully we will see a happy 40. Thank you all for your posts, it really does help.

I had bleeding at 9 weeks. I was really heartbroken. I was sure that I had lost it. I went to the doctor, test positive, no heart beat. He told me to come back next week if there was no more heavy bleeding. The next week I had just spotted, but there was still no heartbeat. Since I was still testing positive, they sent me for a ultrasound. That was the first time we saw our "little bean". It was then that they also saw the S/H. I was scared but mostly relieved that I still had him. Well I think I am pregnant again. I am going to get my first test tomorrow. I hope I don't have to go through that6 again.

I was diagnosed with a hematoma on March 15th, I am 13 weeks. I have not had any bleeding and was not put on bed rest. The sonogram that showed this hematoma was found at my 1st trimester screening which was not held at my doctor's office. I am a little worried but I guess I shouldn't be because my doctor would have called me by now if this was something critical, since he should have gotten the results from the screening. I hope...

Thanks everyone for all of the information. I am 8 weeks with our first. Last Thursday I woke up and was bleeding and the u/s showed a tear in the placenta. The doctor said "wait and see" and "there are no guarentees" so I've been worried sick since. My doctor won't see me until I'm 10 weeks, so I've just been waiting on pins and needles. Thankfully, I was able to sneak in an appt. this Thursday. The bleeding has stopped, and every so often I get a bit of the brown blood, which also scared me. After reading everyone's posts, I feel quite a bit better adn more normal. Good luck to all!

i was diagnosed with a subchorionic emmorhage at 6 weeks. I am now at eight weeks and have had no bleeding and mild cramping every now and then. My doctor seems skeptical about miscarrying because the hemmorhage is so large. Is this good that i'm not bleeding. Everybody else with this condition seems to be spotting or bleeding.

I was told it was a subchorionic bleed and it wasnt that serious. But, i am now having bright red bleeding again. i am very scared what are the chances of a miscarriage at this point?

Hi, I had bleeding "gushes" I call them at 6 weeks 7 weeks 9 weeks and 11 weeks. Each time at the ER they told me threatened miscarriage, i think because they had no idea what else to say. The OB I had been seeing was terrible. She did not call me back and when I finally went to her office, she did not know the results of the ER visit 5 days before. I had picked up the results from the ER and told her, even though I faxed them to her office. So needless to say I found a new OB who recommended I also see a perinatolgist. The Peri put me on strict bed rest from weeks 11-16. I was allowed to pee and take a shower, that was it. I am now 25 weeks pregnant and teh baby is fine. Bed rest was the key for me, and stopped all the bleeding. Some OB's think it is a waste of time but mine did not. She felt and so did the Peri that the placenta needed to have the presurre off of it so it could heal. My SCH is still there, but not bleeding, so I am still at risk for pre-term labor, but I am being watch closely by my OB and the Peri. I see the OB every 2 weeks and my peri every month. Please try not to stress, but make sure you get the care you need from your Dr.s. Good luck.

I had my first bleeding episode from a sbuchorionic hemorrhage at 6 weeks. It felt like I had gallons of blood coming out of me. They diagnosed the bleed to be covering 20% of the placenta .I was put on strict bedrest for two weeks and the condition resolved itself. I was told that I would have no further problems with this. So I went back to work and had no more bleeding issues, not even old blood coming out. I am a nurse, so I took it easy at work, but I am on my feet all day. At 10 weeks I started bleeding again, this time alot more than the first time. They measured this bleed to cover 50% of the placenta. I was put on strict bedrest again. I had a follow-up ultrasound every week. At 13 weeks the bleed was still the same size, but it was not getting any worse so my doctor said that I could go back to work with limited duties. I was back to work for 2 days and I started to have old blood come out, which had never happened before and I was starting to cramp. Once again it was back on bed rest. At 16 weeks the ultrasound showed tha the bleed was down to cover only 20% of the placenta. I am 19 weeks now and will go in for another ultrasound at 20 weeks. I am debating going back to work, because all of my complications have stemmed from me being at work. If you can stay on bedrest, I would recommend it. You have to remember that they are not going to conduct studies on pregnant women to see if being on bedrest or if staying on your feet is better. Who wants to volunteer to be the person to stay on their feet and have the possibility and guilt of miscarrying? I am just saying that if you have a job that you do alot of physical work or alot of walking, you may want to take some time off until you are 100% healed and feel comfortable.

I still have to work so i'll work 7p-7am. I havent had any bleeding since my last post (thankfully) . Thanks again ill keep you posted.

I went to the ER last Friday for bleeding and cramping and they said that it was a subchorionic bleed. I didn't get to see the ultrasound from the ER but visted my doctor on Tuesday and in the ultrasound it looked like there was an entirely separate sack (similar to the one my baby is in) in my uterus. Just wondering what your ultrasounds looked like? The doctor concured that it was fluid in my uterus but I'm wondering if it's really a subchorionic bleed or something else?
