I am currently taking paxil and i am 6 months pregnant and i have been on it for about 5 years. I am concerned that i am harming my baby by taking it even though my doctors assured me it is safe. I was wondering if anyone else could tell me if they took it throughout there pregnancy and what the outcome was. Thanks.....

I am also currently 6 mos pregnant. My Dr took me off of it when I got pregnant. She said it was not clinically proven to be safe, or unsafe, so she would rather not risk it with me. She says she does plan to put me right back on it after my daughter is born- it is safe FOR SURE during b___stfeeding.

I used a low dose of Paxil (10mg) during pregnancy. My baby was born perfectly healthy and I had no complications during pregnancy. My doctor advised me against totally going off of paxil, because she thought that a return of my depression would be more harmful to the baby than the paxil. I did reduce my dosage from 20 to 10 mg. After I gave birth, I had to go back up to 20 mg.

I was put on it when I refused to take Wellbutin years ago, due to bf. I weaned myself down to 5mg when I became pregnant again and everything seems fine, my baby is three weeks old. There can be heart issues and breathing issues for the baby I'm told. I would research it if you're on a big dose.
