My 10 day old failed his hearing screening for the second time in one ear. He has an appointment next week to see a specialist, but I'm hoping someone has had a simlar experience who can give me some input. I've been told that he may have an infection or a cloged ear. Has anyone else's baby failed the screening and there NOT been a permanent hearing problem? Any input would be greatly apprecitated. As you can imaine I am very concerned. Thanks for your help.

My baby is 4 weeks old. She failed the test 3 times. They weren't going to do it again and I begged the nurse and she pa__sed. My friend does these tests on babies. If the baby is fussy or ga__sy and isn't sitting in just the right position and moves she will fail. Also there could still be vernix in there. About a week after we came home some cheesy looking gunk came out and I a__sume that's what it was. My ped said it was very normal to fail. And my friend said about every other baby fails and that if the person doing it is rushing or not really concerned it's easy to fail and quite common. I know it's hard but try not to worry. Oh, also, they told me that if it would have been 2 ears they would have been concerned but since it was 1 they were positive it was just gunked w/ something.
