Okay for one if I were to get onto birth control after giving birth would I have regular periods quickly? Have any of you been on the depo shot and what were your experiences with that?

I personally haven't been on depo shots. My Mom and she said it didn't agree with her body. My friend was on it got pregnant and didn't know because you don't get your period when your on it. Another girl I know gained 28 pounds, my sister is on it and she says its fine.

Everyone I know who's taken the depo experienced significant weight gain, like 25lbs! My doctor told me that is very common to gain that much with it, so I refused to go on it. I'm on the nuvaring instead and I really like it. Also I've heard it can take a really long time to conceive after having been on the shot, when you decide to have more children.

babyonboard.. if you're planning to b___stfeed.. the depo shot isnt even an option for you. the type of birth control they put you on after you give birth, if you're b___stfeeding.. is completely different from regular birth control. it's a lighter, more mellow form of it so it doesnt harm the baby. if you aren't going to b___stfeed.. then you can talk to your doctor about the depo shot. if i were you, i wouldnt decide on the depo shot just because you dont want to get periods. there are health risks involved, just like any other form of birth control.. only with the depo shot, you've got a lot of extra stuff added on. which makes since considering our bodies are supposed to bleed once a month.. so anything other than pregnancy that causes our bodies to not clean out, isn'r natural or normal. the depo shot causes bone thining. they took my best friend off of it after 3 years because they found out she's already pre exposed to bone problems, and the shot would only cause her to have the problems sooner. these kind of bone problems cant be solved by taking extra calcium or drinking more milk. they are serious problems.. so definately make sure you are informed before you go jumping into a birth control.. they are not all the same. i'd also talk to your doctor.. they would know your personal case better, and can tell you what would work best for YOUR body.

well, i just got the paragard iud, its hormone free and las ts up to 10years or whenever you have it removed(probably in a year or 2 for me). i'd check that out. my friend had a bad reaction to the shot and had to wait 3 months for the side effects to go away as the hormones last that long. the shot scares me cause i know a few people who still have probs cause of it even tho they stopped uuing it as far back as 2yrs ago. about regular cycles i don't know, i'm nursing exclusivly so shouldn't have a period, right? but my son is 3 1/2 months and i'm on period #3 since birth. lame.well, good luck

IMO the depo shot sucks. Nothing good came out of it for me. This, though, is really something you need to speak to your doctor about. Most likely at your 6 weeks check up. Good luck
