My 3 week old is still in the hospital and the doctor says he is sick. I guess that his heart rate is elevated and she said that he has some mopdeling. What is modeling?

Sweetie, it sounds like you need some better communication with the doctor. Why not ask her to explain these things to you? You need to be able to understand what's going on with your baby!! I'm sorry your baby is not able to come home yet. If the doc said modeling, it's nothing serious. That means the head shaped (maybe cone-head like) during birth. This is normal and gets better on it's own. Although, it would be better by 3 weeks old. Otherwise, I'm not sure what you mean. Ask the doc what's causing the high heart rate, and what will show that the baby is all better. So, you'll know what's going on. Take care!

Lala is right - modeling is when the baby's head is shaped funny from the birth ca___l - it almost always corrects itself. Now MOTTLING is when the baby doesn't have good oxygen perfusion so the skin looks "mottled" which means it's not a overall pink, it has patches of pink, pale, and bluish tints.

To add - it sounds like your poor lo's heart is working way to hard to pump blood around his body causing the tachycardia and mottling. Good luck and hope he gets to go home soon.

Yes, mommytobe, good idea. I was racking my brain trying to translate what-in-the-world she could be trying to say. Mottling sounds more like it. That would fit the picture better. I still say, she needs to communicate with the doctor and nurses to figure out what's going on with her little precious baby.
