I gained a total of 12 pounds with my pregnancy. I know this isn't much but I am a larger woman so it was an appropriate amount, and my baby is very healthy and happy. However, even though I only gained 12 pounds, since the birth of my son 3 weeks ago, I have lost 27 pounds. Has this happened to anyone else or should I be concerned about this much loss so fast? I am br___tfeeding, but I did with my first born as well and never had this happen.

i am 5'3 and pre preg i was 115lbs. i gained 25lbs so i was 140. by 2weeks pp (i exclusively bf) i was 117, by 6weeks pp i was 116 and stayed there for a while. by 3months pp i started to lose more i went from 116 to 104 in 5weeks. my son is 8months and i actually got as low as 97lbs! i did lose 2 or 3 lbs from a stomch flu, but it was pointed out to me that my son was only eating solids at the sitters (he only goes 2 days a week) and that my pumping schedule was the same as always at work so my body thought it was exclusively nursing a 7month old! i have been making it a point to feed him baby food through out the day and i shortened my pumping sessions at work so i am 105 now. i hate to complain, but i look sickly, i know i'm lucky to have lost weight so easily, but its hard for some to understand that looking like a skelaton can be just as hard as being somewhat over weight (for my height and build i should stay between 110 and 115, but when i was 16 i shot up to 130 in less that a year which is actually quite a bit of extra weight for my frame, so i can say, that being a bit over weight made me just as self conscious as being under weight...in fact now i panic that people are staring thinking i'm anorexic or on drugs and that they think i am hurting my son because i look so sickly) OK SO BASICALLY IT DOES HAPPEN ESP IF YOU ARE BFING JUST MAKE SURE YOU KEEP TAKING PRENATALS BECAUSE ITS GREAT TO LOSE EXTRA WEIGHT JUST MAKE SURE YOU STAY WELL NURISHED...I'M SURE YOU KNOW THAT. MANY WOMEN NOTICE SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT LOSS AROUND 4-6MONTHS PP WHEN BABIES EAT MORE BUT ARE NOT QUITE READY FOR SOLIDS, DEPENDING ON YOUR BABIES AGE, THAT MAY EXPLAIN IT. CONGRATS ON YOUR BABY, SUCCESS WITH BREAST FEEDING AND YOUR WEIGHT LOSS. YOU PROBABLY DON'T NEED TO BE CONCERNED JUST KEEP UP WITH YOUR DR CHECK UPS ;)
