Breastmilk

My daughter delivered on the 15th of January. Her baby did not make it. B--tmilk is coming in quick. Is there anything to take in order to dry it up so this is not one more thing to add to her grief?

That's just awful, poor thing, so sorry for your friends tragic loss. There are dry up pills but I think drs. are loathe to prescribe..in this case you think they would.Hot showers and old fashion binding...take a single flat sheet and wrap around back and chest.Perhaps easing up on fluid intake.

The old-fashioned dry-up pills are banned now for being dangerous, and the newer ones are not normally promoted because the long-term effects are not yet known. I didn't want to take them once I found that out, just in case. When it happened to me I just had to wear a maternity bra for support (and for the expandable size,) and wait. It was very uncomfortable, but I didn't leak because no-one touched my b___sts, and on the seventh day after 'filling up' they started to go down and be more comfortable. To be honest, after the milk went I had one or two tiny dribbles of milk each day, and I didn't want them to stop because they were comforting to me - in some weird way they were the last physical link with my dead son, and when they did go I was very sad about it. Once the milk is there, its probably best to use it as part of the grieving process. By the way, my midwives told me to avoid hot showers, because they stimulate production - just goes to show that there are no hard and fast rules. They also told me not to touch my b___sts except to dry them gently after rinsing them in the shower. I do hope your daughter is OK - its possibly the worst grief to ever have to cope with.
