No D C Trying To Conceive

Hello all! I'm a 26 year old married for 1 year, last year I miscarried, didnt even know I was pregnant so I didnt get the chance to find out how far along I was. I did not have a D&C done after the miscarriage but I did talk to me doctor a few months later about it. I'm not sure if my body got rid of everything. I'm due for a pap-smear but I want to know if there is anything I should have done to make sure that all of the previous pregnancy was released, how can I tell and since my husband are trying again, should it be easier for us to conceive? I'm also a type 2 diabetic on a weight-loss mission so I have a lot riding against me. Please help this desperate mom-wanting-to-be.
