Change your OB! What do you mean she/he won't see you until you are 10 weeks? You will just keep on worrying and affect what is a healthy pregnancy. I just had a miscarriage with a blighted ovum. Had a D&C last August 31st. Found out when I was 7 weeks and 2 days pregnant after undergoing 3 ultrasound from 5 weeks. There are no symptoms as the other girls put it you can only know after undergoing several ultrasound test. What happened to me was, at 5 weeks, u/s showed no gestational sac when it should have, then at 6 weeks, I had a sac and a yolk sac but the sac was irregular in shape and there was subchorionic hemorrhage around the sac. After a week went for another u/s and there was nothing in the sac anymore, no yolk, no fetus and the size of the sac was too small for my supposedly age of 7 weeks. This is my first pregnancy. So I did not wait to naturally m/c since i wanted to just move on and not have to wait and wait til it happens. It's been 8 days after the d&c and I am fine. One thing you can also have done is check levels of HCG if it is rising then that is a good sign but when it is dropping then that is not so good. But the best thing is have a u/s done. At 8 weeks you should have a sac and the fetus but if no fetus then wait again for another 2 weeks then have scan done again. The sac should have grown 1mm per day from last scan and the fetus should have developed if it is not a blighted case. Email me directly margedeleon@yahoo.com, if you need more advice. BUt as for now, please do not stress yourself worrying it is not good for your unborn child. NO symptoms of pregnancy is not a sign of a blighted believe me, I had all the symptoms and still was b/o. SO just be happy and smile and say "Yehey! I am Pregnant!" I know it can be tough aftr 2 m/c but as a mom you should be strong for your baby, because he/she will be feeling all your emotions and we want him/her to feel positive ones. Don't worry, God has his plans for you.

SCARED: I agree with Marge! I am appaled that your OB would not agree to give you a scan for your own peace of mind, and quite disappointed that she/he would try to force a D&C on you, and so soon after the diagnosis. Time for a new doctor, I think. I am so sorry about the outcome of your pregnancy. Miscarriage is such a painful thing to venture through, I am so glad you have found this site and have a place to go to be encouraged and loved on. Please take good care of yourself. xxoo

Hi Ladies, I am sure glad I found this site, it has helped me to not feel so alone. I have a question. I have 2 healthy boys, and now we are pregnant again. We have been trying to concieve, and have been so excited to be. I am so nervous though because I have sore b___sts and a bit of nautiousness, but that is it. I don'' really feel pregnant. I am 5 weeks 3 days LMP. I went in to my dr and he gave a v____al ultrasound. He saw a healthy sac and the start of a fetal pole, but didn;t see a heartbeat. He said he may have saw a flicker, but couldn't guarentee it, so I have to go back in 8 days for another US. I am scared something is wrong. I just have a bad underlying feeling, and don't know why. Maybe it is because my sister in law had a MC at 12 weeks recently that I think something is wrong with me. Do you think that no HB at 5.3 weeks is a bad sign? Please answer.

kltong No heartbeat at that time is not abnormal. They usually do not see a heartbeat till 6 weeks good luck to you and enjoy this pregnacy as you will only carry this child 9-10 months and then it will be on to raising the baby. God Bless you and your baby!

Thank you so much for your response. I will try to keep more positive feelings and thoughts! I just get discouraged when the medical community sometimes seems to forget that we are pregnant women, not just a number. I think compa__sion and understanding is important, even if at times we over react, or make something out of nothing. I will keep this forum posted as to the progress of my pregnancy. God bless all you other moms out there.........

I have some questions for anyone whom has had a blighted ovum......What week did you miscarry?......Did you have food cravings?.......Did you have a feeling like there just was no "spark of life" inside you?.....What was your age at the time of blighted ovum?.....Was your m/c laborous/painfull? Thank you for all of your answers.

YOU JUST FEEL LIKE YOUR NOT PREGNANT EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE. THERE ARE NO SYMPTOMS. ALL YOUR PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS JUST DISAPPEAR.

I had a miscarrage in october 2007, was told it was a blighted ovum. I was 9 weeks when i found out at a routine scan but had some bleeding before, i just remember before the bleeding feeling so cold, that nothing would heat me. My midwife told me that this happens when the pregnancy hormones rush out of your body.

Worried--Have them do an ultrasound to confirm the baby's heartbeat and location. Once that u/s rules out any complications that could cause a lower rise in hormones, you should talk with your doc about supplementing. My best friend had two m/c in a row before they discovered that she produced enough hormone to get pregnant but not enough to stay pregnant. They supplemented her third pregnancy and her fourth--she currently has a beautiful little girl and a healthy baby on the way.

I had a blighted ovum, I can't really say there is any symptoms. I felt preggers for the first month and in the second month the pregnancy symptoms diminished. I miscarried at the end of the second month. I wish you the best. I liked the site misdiagnosed miscarriages. Lots of information on there, that may help you.

I wanted to share my story with all those suffering the grief of a blighted ovum. Please, Please DO NOT have a D&C unless you have had several sonograms and or blood tests and you and your doctor are absolutely sure the pregnancy is not viable.
2 weeks ago (Thursday) I took a pregnancy test and to my surprise, I was pregnant. This was a big surprise as my husband and I were not trying to have a baby. We just had our third son ten months ago and had no intentions on getting pregnant. But our trust in God is immense, and we know this is what he wanted for us. I scheduled an appoiment to see my OB (Friday), he examined me and said that my uterus felt larger than 4 weeks (which based on my LMP was how far along I should have been). He sent me for a sono the same day. The minute I saw the sac, I asked the sono tech why it looked empty. She said that she was sorry to tell me that the sac was empty and miss-shaped which meant I had a blighted ovum. At the time I was measuring 6 weeks.
I had mixed emotions, but trusted that this is what God wanted for us. The next week (Wednesday) I went back to see my doctor. He explained that the pregnancy was not viable, and that I could wait to have a miscarriage or I could have D&C. I weighed my options, and felt that a D&C would be the best for me and my family. I felt it would be very difficult to carry on with the pregnancy waiting for a miscarriage. I asked if I could have another sono just to make sure that the pregnancy was not viable, and he agreed. He went ahead and scheduled the D&C for one week (Wednesday) and my follow up sono for 5 days (Monday).
When Monday came around, I really didn't think anything would change, but to my surprise, there was a perfect little embryo, with a perfect little heart beat. They had been WRONG!!! There was no blighted ovum!!! There was a perfectly viable pregnancy!! Although my situation is very rare, I feel that EVERYONE who is told they have a blighted ovum should make absolutely sure that is the case before scheduling a D&C.
Needless to say, I am 6 weeks 4 days pregnant with a healthy baby!
Please listen to your body!!

I experienced the same thing. When an Ob told me I was 6 weeks pregnant, I had a scan which told a blighted ovum. Now it has been a week that happened. I am still waiting for the periods to flow in own its own. How long should I wait for things to go on naturally?

Hi all,
I have also have 2 blighted ovums. I want to share my story with you. After the last D&C, I told my OB that I wanted to go see a specialist. He suggested that I take Clomid, but I insisted on seeing a specialist. So he sent me a RE in Memphis Tennessee. I was dignosed with MTHFR after all the miscarriage testing. MTHFR is where your body does not produce folic acid or vitamin B. He explained to me that your body has to have folic acid in order to to have a normal pregnancy. I now take folcaps, prenatal vitamins, and a baby aspirin a day. My husband and I are trying again this month so we hope that things work out for us. If I could do it over again, I would demand the miscarriage blood work after the first blighted ovum. Each of you are in my prayers each day.

I just found out today that I have a blighted ovum. :( I went in to Emergency a little over a week ago with pelvic pain and because I was almost 6 weeks pregnant they scheduled a trans-v____al ultrasound for the next day. The ultrasound showed a sack and no fetal pole but I was only 6 weeks so they rescheduled me for another trans-v____al ultrasound for 8 weeks (today) and still no sign of a fetus. I haven't had any spotting, cramping or bleeding and the pelvic pain I went in to Emergency with turned out to be gas/constipation pain. Since my blood tests had shown quite a steady increase in my HCG levels and I was still having all the symptoms of pregnancy - I was hoping for the best but as I found out today the pregnancy is not viable. I have one beautiful baby boy already who is almost 3 years old now so that makes this a little easier than if it were my first pregnancy but it's still really hard. I'm devastated. Unfortunately there are no real symptoms of blighted ovum since the pregnancy hormone can continue to rise and give you all the pregnancy symptoms. The only way I found out for sure was through the ultrasounds. I'm told my hormone levels may continue to rise until my body takes care of the miscarriage on its own. I hope this helps some of you out there. xo
