Hey guys,
My girlfriend just took a qualitative blood test that turned out negative.
I am curious how accurate this is and the possibility of false negative results.
It's at least 7-10 days after possible conception so I think we left it long enough.
Is it accurate? Can we safely say she's not pregnant now or?
Thanks!

A qualitative blood test is just like a home pregnancy test. They have cutoff marks at the lab. If Hcg is just one under their cutoff it is negative. I suggest getting a quant_tative. This one gives you the exact amount of Hcg in the blood.

The cutoff varies by lab and can be anywhere from 5 to 25.
Though, none should show in the perfect world. A 1 or 2 can be seen and not be pregnant. Anything higher than a 5 is almost definately a positive.
The reason that a lot of labs have a 25 is because HCG doubles often in newly pregnant females, and 25 is usually reached after less than 2 weeks. They save money by using a less accurate method. Note that HPT's are generally about 20 - 30.
