Hormones Period And Neg Hpts

Does anyone know if a hormone imbalence could cause you to have periods and negative hpts, but still be pregnant?

i asked a nurse and she said yeah. she had a patient who was 3 months, and didnt know it, because she was having normal periods...the baby was healthy too

and this one lady i work with kept getting negative hpts up until her 4 month of pregnancy...
