Too Early For An Ultrasound

I was wondering how early is too early for an ultrasound? My period has always been irregular. I am supposed to be about 7 weeks. I went to the doctor today and she could see from the ultrasound that I am definitely pregnant but she could not see the crown or the heartbeat. She told me to come back in 2 weeks for another. I am worried. I may only be about 4 weeks but I am not sure when exactly I ovulated. When is too early to have an ultrasound?

i had an ultrasound too early and they didn't see anything - which was very embarra__sing! But then 2 weeks later I had another one and they finally saw something. I was just less far along than I thought.
