Beta HCG Level At 5 Weeks

Hi everyone :) I am 42 years of age and currently six weeks' pregnant (totally unplanned!). At 5 weeks, my OB-GYN did a baseline beta HCG level which apparently came back as 2444. Today, one week later, I had my second HCG level done and will get results tomorrow. My doctors will be checking my beta HCG level for three weeks in a row, followed by my first ultrasound. I'm thinking that my initial HCG level is low, and I'm worried. Has anyone been faced with a similar problem?

Hi Patti, congrats!!! I'm wondering why you think it's too low? Let's say you were at 100 at exactly 4 weeks (that would be quite normal), you'd be at around 1600 8 days later, (5 weeks 1 day) a__suming they double every 48 hours. How far into the 5 weeks were you? Your levels sound okay to me, the main thing is they look good when you get the results tomorrow. Best of luck with that, and please let us know!

Thanks, J ... I appreciate your reply ... guess I'm really just anxious these days ... my last pregnancy was 10 years ago (I have two beautiful sons, ages 9 and 14). Everything seems really scary to me right now, especially in view of the fact that I have a history of two miscarriages in the past. Tomorrow's test should be a good indicator of how things are going and hopefully I will be able to relax just a little :)

Hi, Ana :) My HCG results were actually wonderful this week ... I had gone from 2444 the previous week to well over 9000 this week ... I feel so relieved :) One more week of blood tests, and then hopefully I'll be in the clear ... I can't wait for my first ultrasound!
