Hi Toni1, I made the same mistake with my first one - she was 5 months old, I was still nursing her a couple of times at night. Didn't know better! With my son, 18 months later, I co-slept the first month, put him in a ba__sinet for the second month (2 feedings a noght), put him in his crib the 3rd month. No getting up for at least 6 hours (12-6). The 4th and 5th months - he slept 7-8 hours. Yes, with my daughter I had to finally apply tough love and let her cry at night. She figured it out eventually. But feeding them as if they are still newborns wears you out, and is not necessary.

Toni! I am still checking every once in a while to see how everyone is doing. I am also waking up every 2 - 3 hours to nurse Sonya. It is very tough. Since I am back to work full time, it has gotten even tougher. We get up at 5 am to start our day... By 8 pm, I am falling asleep as I feed her... Sonya is almost 4 months now and I havent started any solid foods yet. That will come soon enough. Take care and keep giving us updates. (I hope everyone else from our group is ok...)

Hi everyone, it's nice to see some new posts from you all. Looks like I'm not the only one still getting up at night, Liam is worse than ever but it's pretty hot here now so he might just need a drink for hydration, not a full feed at times. I seem to spend all day b___bs out! I had him weighed yesterday, 7.1 kg so pretty average now, and 67 cm long. How long do you all plan to b___stfeed?

Kathy! Glad to see you are still visiting! I plan to b___stfeed at least until Sonya is 6 months old. I have enough frozen milk to last another full month after I stop. (I have been rotating the stock and using the oldest now and replacing with what I can pump each day.) It lasts for about 3 months in the freezer... I really love the bonding with Sonya. (Pumping allows my hubby to feed her, too and her big sister.) We are not sleeping through the nights yet... up every 3 to 4 hours. She is weighing about 15 pounds now... quite chubby! She coos and hums when she is full, dry and not tired. I think she might be starting to get a tooth! She is drooling and chewing on her blankies!
Hope everyone is doing well... Please keep in touch.

Hi Happy Me, I know what you mean about the teeth. Liam was drooling everywhere and grawing on whatever he could and his two bottom teeth came through together last week. I had a look in his mouth and he seems to be getting a tooth up the side on the bottom - up near the back??? I hope it's okay, I know the order they should come so why is this tooth coming now? Good work with the pumping - I tried once to express and it didn't work and have never tried since. It would be nice to have someone else be able to feed bub sometimes just so I could have a break. I've heard that b___stfeeding isn't always encouraged in the US. Is this your experience or am I misinformed? We are told to start solids at 6 months, so that will be next... maybe some mushy apple for Christmas dinner....mmmmmmm yummy!

Kathy - Mushy apple sounds great to me for Christmas. I am starting Sonya on rice cereal this weekend! Maybe I can try applesauce for Christmas, too. Breastfeeding is a tricky thing around here. From my experience, I can say that my doctors were all leaning toward b___stfeeding but I noticed at the hospital that most babies in basinettes had signs on them that said formula. One thing for sure is that it is not done in public places that much -- so I always have to go out to the car if I dont take an expressed bottle. I wish I could have b___stfeed only... but because I had to go back to work, I needed to pump for day care. Hope you have a great holiday season... It will definately be a wonderful one in all of our houses with our little ones.

Wow, we are so encouraged to b___stfeed that in the hospital it is frowned upon to give baby formula unless there is a b___stfeeding problem. We are also protected by law to have the right to b___stfeed in public wherever we choose. This is not to say that there are not times that b___stfeeding mothers meet with disapproving looks and even comments, but that has never happened to me. I don't feed in the feeding rooms that the shopping centres, but just discreetly out in the open wherever I am. I often take a lightweight wrap to put over my shoulder and over baby so noone sees anything. I have never had a negative experience, but I am older and wiser and probably have the 'don't give me any c___p' expression lol. My bubs would starve if I had to express, I just can't manage it. Good on you all for making the extra effort when you don't get the support that we take for granted here. Have a great Christmas everyone, it's a different time of year when we see it through a little one's eyes.
