hi worried mom. i encourage you to sign up for the facebook group so you can see all the moms there and all the positive results. ALL results have been positive. Not one has had ds. the amnio is risky and you should look at all the info before making the decision. i know how hard it is to "wait and see" but your baby is just fine and you should see how well the results are before doing anything risky. try not to worry, the spot is not a big deal.

Hey Everybody.... Our daughter had an echogenic Foci. We were freaking out. No body in our families has a history of downs etc... We let it ruin a few months of our pregnacy with fear for the worst. ADVISE: Dont worry about it. It truly means nothing!!!!! There was one thesis written long ago that tried to link it to downs, but it is not medically accepted and has almost zero credibility. They are just supposed to make you aware of it, just in case. It truly is silly and means nothing. If there are multiple indicators with your DNA screen, then there is the potential. However, just an echogenic foci or echogenic ma__s anywhere means absolutely nothing. Don't let it scare you.

Ryan071236,
Thank you for your post. I'm currently pregnant and was told that my baby boy had a white spot on his heart or an echo foci. All are other test came out great. I however have found it hard to enjoy my pregency and its constantly on my mine. Your post and others have given me hope.
Thanks,
WorriedMom

I have been meaning to post the outcome of our daughter's birth, but as you all know time can slip away so fast.
Anyway, my daughter was diagnosed with an echogenic foci at our 5 month ultrasound. My husband and I were so upset. The rest of my pregnancy was hard and I was always worring if she had downs.
I promised myself I would post when I had her because I know hearing all of the other moms that had given birth to healthy babies really helped.
On April 7. 2009 I gave borth to a healthy 6 lbs 8 oz baby girl! She was perfect! They did and echocardiogram after birth and said the foci was still there but the pediatrician said it would not hurt her.
Please try to not worry about it. I know it is easier to said than done but I hate hearing all of these stories about women's last 4 months of their pregnancies being ruined. Try to enjoy them. I would do anything to be able to go back and enjoy those last few months of my pregnancy.
Just remember all of the positive outcomes of the mom that have posted here.
Everything WILL be okay!!!

My little girl was also diagnosed with an isolated echogenic focus at our 20 week ultrasound. I have been dealing with it pretty well throughout the pregnancy but now that I am 35 weeks I am getting a little anxious and worried again since it is so close to delivery. I would like to join the facebook page. What do I need to do join?

I had my 19 week sonogram early this morning. This is our second baby and it's a boy. Everything looked good. I've just received a phone call from the Dr. to tell me of the soft markers on the baby's heart. My husband is away for work so of course I panicked. I've since spoken to him (cried to him actually). We don't want the amnio and we're just going to sit this one out. I'm going to try and not worry. I'm NOT going to google Downs Syndrome.
I love hearing all the other encouraging words and would love to see the FaceBook page. Can someone please provide the link.
Thanks,
Shannon.

Hi Shannon. I was in a similar situation as you. When I found out about the EIF my husband was out of town and I just cried to him over the phone. We also opted not to do the amnio as it was too risky so we waited it out. It really put a dark cloud on my pregnancy and that is my biggest regret. I wish I could have a do over.
I don't have the link for the facebook group but there are many posts on here with directions. It may take a bit but look back starting around January 2009.
I think 70-100 people have joined the facebook group which has been around about a year or so. No one has had a baby with downs. It seems to me people should be looking at this 'marker' as a marker for NOT having downs as 100% surveyed have not had it. It is hard, maybe impossible for many people like myself, but try to enjoy your pregnancy.
Best wishes to you Shannon.

I sent a message to the facebook group administrator to add you. She will be in contact soon. It is a private group, so you can't search for it. Take care of yourself!

It has been over a year since I first posted but I wanted to follow up and share yet another good news story. At 20 weeks I was told they found an echogenic foci spot on my baby's heart and that one kidney was bigger than the other - 2 soft markers for Downs. We chose not to do the amnio and I worried for much of my pregnancy. Well on June 4th, 2009 I gave birth to a perfectly healthy, totally adorable baby boy.
All I can say to all of you who are in the midst of what I went through, focus on all the positive stories/outcomes and try not to let this ruin the wonderful experience of pregnancy.

kimma17 - it's wonderful to hear such good stories, it truly is.
I woke up this morning with a renewed sense of hope. My husband and I are on the same page luckily. We're going to sit back and relax - as much as humanly possible. We will take whatever is thrown at us. There's a very good chance that all will be fine.

Hi, It has been quite a while since I last posted on this forum as well but I wanted to share some good news with you all. On March 2008 I had my baby girl healthy and well. I got pregnant again and had another baby girl in September 2009 and she was also healthy. Both of my pregnancies they saw the white spot on the heart but with my first one they sent me to the high risk doctor for a while. With my second one they not only saw a white spot but also the kidney dilation as another marker but all was well and didnt send me to any high risk doc. My Obgyn said she sees this now all the time and its become a common thing. I wish you all the best in your pregnancy and a happy healthy baby :)

Hi Ladies,
I found this forum and thread because I just had my 20 wk u/s this morning and have just heard from my doctor an hour ago that they saw a bright spot in my baby's heart :( Of course she said that I don't need to worry about anything cos my NT was ok/normal but it's just hard not to :(
Can someone add me to the FB group?
Thanks!
Jacq
