A month later, I guess I'll start the new thread...Welcome back Girls...I've missed everyone. I sure do miss our frequent postings! I had my 26 week visit. I had a fetal echo done and they rechecked anatomy...Ryan is growing really well. He weighed in at 2.12 pounds and is measuring a little big by about a week or so...although his femur length is right on. With my 1st son his femur always lagged a week behind the rest of him too...lol and now he is the tallest in his class. She took some 4D pics of his face too! what a pleasant surprise that was. My little bug is a cutie just like his brother. I have gained a total of 14 pounds so far so I am ok with that...puts me right on target for 25-30. Other than that, not much else to report... Have a great week!

MellyMel - August 18

Christa~Glad to hear your fetal echo went well. He is getting big huh! That's so cool that you got 4D pics. I like the name Ryan too. I have a nephew Ryan. I have always liked that name. I can't believe we only have 3 more months left!!Well today I got bad news that I failed my 1-hour glucose and have been so depressed and upset all day. I had a 161 and I guess it should be under 140. I have to go on a low carb diet for 3 days and then go for another 3-hour test next week. I was so excited to think I may not have g.d. this time around, but today that came crashing down on me when they called me. Oh well, not much I can do. I shed a little tears and all I can do is the next step and see from there. Glad to hear you are all doing well and our babies are kick kick kicking away!! XO

Perl - August 19

Christa: lucky you for getting an echo and 4D images too! Ryan's a great name. Mel: so sorry about the GD results, I know you were worried of it happening this pregnancy. I know it's a pain in the b___t to avoid carbs but at least you can keep it in check to a degree. Good luck with the 3 hour test next week.

MellyMel - August 19

Thanks Perl. I go next Wednesday morning. I will start my low carb diet tomorrow through Tuesday and go Wednesday morning. I hear some woman fail the 1 hour and pa__s the 3 hour, but just knowing that I had it with my son puts me at higher risk. Oh well..Hope you are all having a great weekend. It's going to rain tomorrow. We are on our way out to dinner. I think we might go to Chili's or Texas Roadhouse!! See ya later..xo

happpygal - August 22

Hi all: I'm back from a little vacation. URG...I also have GD! Failed the one hour with over 200 reading and then have excess amniotic fluid, I think I might have posted this before I left. Anyway, I have to do the diet, AND fingersticks. My guy weighed in at 2 pounds 10 ounces at 26 weeks...so we have to find a way to slow things down. I may need meds (Big frown) but right now I'm concentrating on limiting my carb intake and increasing proteins. Glad everyone else is doing okay. I"ve gained about 20 pounds, but have held steady the last few weeks and not gained any more, which my OB is happy about. Melly, was everything okay with your last pregnacy, when you had GD? How much did the baby weigh, did you need insulin, etc? Take care, all....

happpygal - August 22

About the kicking, (from last thread)...my little guy has a pretty tight schedule. He gets a bit active at 8:00 am when I wake up, sort of saying good morning, then at various times throughout the day, I would say, more so after meals. Then, like clockwork, I mean right on the dot usually, he starts kicking or moving at 10:00 p.m.! It's soooooo weird. I have had my DH put his hand on my tummy at 9:55....nothing, and then at 10:00 p.m, there he goes....so, odd. Perl, there have been a few times when baby has NOT kicked on his usually schedule and I was freaked out. Good thing I still have my Babybeat, because I was way worried. I think that's a natural feeling. My OB said that kick counts start a bit later, after 30 weeks or so because until then, the baby is usually very erratic. Mine, however, I can do the kick counts just fine. It's pretty easy, even if baby isn't on schedule, to count 20 kicks within a few hours when baby is in an active period.

Perl - August 22

Happygal: welcome back from vacation. Sorry to hear about your GD. Good that your doc is pleased with weight steadying down now. I feel like I look like I'm gaining weight more rapidly in the past month. I'll have to double check but I think I gained 4 pounds last month-a pound per week. Most of the women in my family have gotten it too so naturally I'll be worried when my 2nd glucose test comes around, next week I think. Thanks for the info on the baby kicks too. I was wondering if I was supposed to be counting already. Well, 30 weeks is just about 3 weeks away but I guess I don't need to worry too much at this point. I'm back to feeling the kicks and punches every day now. There were just a couple of slow days that got me worried. Actually last night was reverse--I think he was kicking too much for too long. I couldn't get any sleep and I was wondering if something was wrong with him. Hopefully that was a one time thing.***We're going to our first parenting/birthing cla__s tonight and every Tuesday night for the next 6 weeks. In October I'll have a cla__s geared more towards C-sections. Dr. told me that for now I must prepare for c-section or v____al delivery she'll let me know for sure which one later. Anyway, my dh and I are clueless about labor/delivery and c-sections so I hope this cla__s will give us all the info we need. MellyMel: good luck with your 3 hour glucose test. When I go for my 3 hour test I know for sure I'll be bringing a baggie full of nuts to eat afterwards while I rush myself from the lab to the nearest restaurant for some protein. That's just me--without a bit of protein every couple of hours, I'm cranky, headachey and dizzy. Anyway, good luck tomorrow!!! I hope you pa__s the test.

happpygal - August 23

Perl: wow, I'm really impressed with your preparation for birth. I've been told I'll most likely be getting a C, espcially since I've had some v____al surgery in the past (puts me at risk) and also from the GD and likely large little boy. I didn't know there were cla__ses to prepare for that, but makes sense. I still have the fantasy that I could somehow pull off a v____al birth...........when I asked my v____al surgeon about it, he kind of shrugged his shoulders, "could work." Thanks. Anyway, I think I should look into that, as well. Let me know how it goes. And....about the kicking, I also have VERY active days with mine and not so active ones, as well. Could be anything from something we ate, to too much noise or light, etc. Like us, at this stage, our little ones are pretty much effected by environmnental factors. Sounds like you're doing just great!

Kristin72 - August 23

Hi Ladies, I just got back from my OB app. Been suffering from headaches..thought maybe it was hypertension but my bloodpressure was fine. I am measuring right on track..my cultures were good as was my protein I also pa__sed the GD test!. Looks like the home stretch has begun girls. I found out I will be having one more ultrasound towards the end just to double check things..Maybe they can tell me the s_x..or maybe by that point I should just wait til delivery for the surprise. Still having a hard time with the naming issue..now I am atleast narrowing things down to a possible Greek name. I have thought of a few but I don't know my guys opinion on them yet. I thought if it is a girl Chloe Elizabeth, Zoe Jacqueline,Vanessa Kristina, Alexandra Lindsay, or Rhea Brenna...or any other configurations or combo's (all the first names are of greek origin. Jacqueline is my mothers name and Zoe is John's grandmother's name. For a boy I was thinking Christopher Brennan, Ryan.......,Mathew John, Brennan Yiorgos,Tyler John(which he'd never go for) Christos, Drew. If I could name the child whatever I wanted for a girl I would probably chose McKenzie Elizabeth, or Taylor Elizabeth, for a boy I like Tyler, Taylor,Brennan. So if anyone has any opinions on those names I would love to hear them. Or if you know any nice Greek inspired first anmes for boy or girl I'd love to hear them. As you may be aware the naming thing is stickly because the father of my baby would like me to name the baby after his father originally now he will settle for a greek name so the baby has a name day. Oh brother..this drives me nuts. Talk to you all soon! Kristin

MellyMel - August 23

HappyGal~with my last pregnancy with GD, I had to take insulin, yes. He was born premature though due to eclampsia and was born 35w/5d and weighed only 5lb.3oz. He was a peanut. If I had gone the whole 40 though, I was told he could have double in size!! LOL. Anyway, I went today. I was wrong with the diet. It is actually a HIGH carb diet, not low. They like you to consume at least 150-200 g. of carbs the first three days prior to testing and nothing to eat/drink 8 hours before. It's usually an overnight fast. Hubby came with me for the first hour and then left. I wanted to make sure nothing bad happened. I'm a paranoid nut, but anyway, it is done AGAIN and I PRAY I PRAY I don't have it. But if I do, then I will deal with it as I did in the past. Maybe it won't be as bad and I won't need insulin this time around, who knows. Yes PERL~I brought something to nibble on as soon as it was done and then met my Mom & Dad for breakfast at Denny's. LOL. I'll let you girls know if I hear anything by Friday. I'm hoping I won't though!!! Baby is doing fine and me too. I have been experiencing what I think is ligament? pain when I roll over fast in bed, OUCH, and I also have bad lower back pain after walking on the treadmill, so I bought a belly belt and boy does it help my back good!! Other than that, no other complaints. She is kicking up a storm and moving like mad. It's so weird when you put your hand on your belly and feel them squirming around in there! What a feeling!!! Have a good night ladies...xo

in the woods - August 23

Greek names for boys: Nicolas, Adonis, Angelos (the short version would be Angel), Justus.

Perl - August 24

Happygal: I didn't expect to be offered any cla__ses or info on c-section either. It's basically one night and only about 1 hour versus the 6 nights for 2 hours for general childbirth cla__ses. Tuesday's cla__s (the first one) was helpful. We did some Kegels and some cleansing breaths and we saw illustrations about the changes in our anatomy that we've already gone through or are still to come. It seems like it will be very educational. Kristin: congrats on pa__sing the glucose test. My vote for the names on your list is for Chloe Elizabeth or Christopher Ryan. Mel: it's hard to imagine that a baby can double in size in just four weeks. I believe it though or else babies would not be getting delivered in advance right? My friend had a c-section at 37 weeks and baby was 6 lbs, 5 oz. We were all surprised because we expected him to be a large baby (and that that was the reason why her c-section was being done that early) but never thought it was to prevent baby from getting too large if he went full-term. Anyway, still wishing you luck, I also hope you don't hear anything by Friday; no news=good news, right? What's disrupting your sleep? Is it digestive problems, baby's kicks, back pain too many trips to bathroom? (for me it's all of the above).

MellyMel - August 25

PERL~The baby doubling is what I was told by a nurse at the hospital. I thought it was crazy, but I guess it's true or she wouldn't have said it. Also, I PASSED my 3-hour gluclose!! It was negative and I'm SO SO SO happy!!! The biggest sleep disturbance I am having right now is my hips and shoulders hurt. I wake up and turn to one side and wake up and turn the other and so forth and so forth; it sucks. I bought a body pillow which is helping a little bit, but it still disrupts my sleep. I am getting a 1-hour prenatal ma__sage tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. and I can't wait!! She said she works the hips and such and I was like THANK YOU because that is where most of my pain is and my shoulders. It is so well needed it's not even funny. Well I'm off to eat supper now. Take care of yourselves ladies and your babies and have a great weekend ...XO

MellyMel - August 25

P.S. Am I the only one SEVERLY constipated right now or anyone else with me on this?? It sucks big time. I picked up a softner that they recommended and took it for 3 days and still not normal yet. I called today and they said to do an enema(which I've never done before) if I don't go regular soon(sorry TMI) and to change my prenatal vitamins; that sometimes certain kinds can do it. Well, bye again...xo

Perl - August 25

Mel congratulations on pa__sing the glucose test!!! Now you can set that worry aside! Had my OB appointment today, my doctor put in an order for my glucose test & blood count for next week. She told me that since my first glucose reading (way back in 1st trimester) was 102 which she said was "good" enough so that my 2nd glucose test will only have to be another 1 hour rather than 3 hour--I'm happy about that but I still hope it goes well. Dr. said my fundal height has consistently been about a cm higher and this week 2 cm higher (29 cm) but no reason for concern because it may be due to the placenta or something else not necessarily a big baby. My weight however is an issue. She told me to eat more because women who gain about 25-30 pounds by the end of term tend to have healthier stronger babies at birth--I'm not even halfway there yet. I told her it's difficult to eat when I feel like my stomach is coming up my throat, oh and the heartburn. I'm going to start using Zantac because Pepsid's not working. Mel: they must be referring to the iron in your vitamins that causes constipation. I was happy I had a good bowel movement this morning (TMI on my part too sorry)---but I think it's funny that a good BM made me happy. I had a gla__s of OJ (lots of fiber), raisin bran cereal, and a bit later I had a peanut b___ter & jelly sandwich with banana on flax seed bread--the combo did the trick. I think this is what I'll eat every morning.

MellyMel - August 28

Thanks Perl. Good luck with your test and you're so lucky that you don't have to take the 3-hour one!! My last visit last Monday I was 25w/1d and was measuring fundal height at 26 weeks. So I am a little bigger by a week and I know it's because they have my due date wrong, but whatever. I go for my ultrasound tomorrow and should get a good idea of what she weighs now and how she is doing. I can't wait and hope that everything is fine and my placenta has moved up some. I hope to get a good picture of her face if they can. The last picture they couldn't get one and gave me one of her hands. LOL. She had thrown them up in the air and the tech clicked for a pic and you see this little hand sticking out, so funny. I have also heard that about weight and healthy babies too. I know it's hard when you have heartburn, but you have to try to put a bit more on if your doctor is suggesting it. I stopped my prenatals temporarily to see how it affects the constipation issue and I am taking the colace(stool softener) 3x's a day to get things going, but nothing yet. Well, I will post more tomorrow night and let you know how my ultrasound went. Have a great night everyone...XO

Hi girls...Having a bit of a scare right now...I woke up pretty bloated in the face and have some petichiae (small red spots) all around my eyes. I was supposed to go get my GTT today and we ended up doing some other blood tests to see how my platlet counts are doing. I am trying not to get too nervous and just hope it was from gagging when I brushed my teeth. The puffiness has since gone down. Wish me luck PLEASE....MEL...congrats on pa__sing the GTT, I know it was worrying you....PERL....EAT...LOL...I laos took Zantac with my 1st pregnancy, it was a life saver....I may having a suggestion for you...It will add calories and protein..Try drining a protein shake. I use 2 scoops proteinpowder, ff milk and add various other things to make it interesting. My absolute fav is chocolate protein powder, banana, a nut b___ter (almond or peanut). I makes a higher calorie tasty treat that is good for both you and baby. Lots of protein and healthy fat, also the banana has good carbs and the added pota__sium helps stave away those dreaded leg cramps. Well that is my $.02 worth. Thanks
