So I was curious to see what will happen at my 20 week scan. Has anyone recently gone, and if so, what all do they do? What do they check for, how long is the scan, etc. Thanks!

20 week scan was awesome! It lasted an hour and I just laid back and watched my little boy. The technician measured everything- his legs, arms, head, heart, kidneys, and so much more. She checked his heartrate and kidney functions. She looked at his profile and spine. She checks the amniotic sac and placenta (mine is low). Then she let me watch him for a good 10 minutes. I got to see him was playing with his toes, his umbilical cord, he yawned and sucked his thumb. I got to watch it all! Then she converted to the 3D imaging and I got to see my baby in #d. He looked so real- skinny, but real! She gave me a ton of pictures! That was the best hour of my life!

I don't remember how long mine lasted but it did take a while doing all the measuring and looking around. Right before she switched to the 4d u/s my little girl turned over. So I got to see the back of her head, her pointing to her ear, then sheturned her head slightly and I could see her pulling at her mouth and then she turned a little more and she clearly had her finger right up her nose. I guess I'm going to have a nose picker on my hands! There was one really cute pic from the original u/s that I wished she would have printed. All you could see was her foot and little toes. Just as clear as could be. So I know that she has at least all her toes on one foot and clearly all her fingers on one of her hands.

I loved being able to see all the little fingers! My lo was moving around too much for the tech to get the toes. But I did count the fingers! I have never been so happy!!!

My ultrasound lasted almost 90 minutes and it was great. Like the other moms have said on here, they check everything. They measured her spine, checked her heart to make sure it was pumping properly, measured all her limbs, of course found out the s_x, and checked and measured all the other major organs (kidneys, liver, bladder, etc). It's really cool if they switch over to 4D and also when they measure their little hands and feet. It's amazing to see those little toes and fingers! We got a good face shot of my daughter...almost looks like she's smiling. She was very skinny, but that's normal at this point. I hope it all goes well for you.
