Has anyone rented a fetal dopplar? What is the heartbeat supposed to sound like? What I hear sounds like a cross between a whooshing sound and a galloping horse (in two totally different places). Is there a website that has a place where you can hear what it's supposed to sound like?

I absolutely LOVE my doppler!! The first thing to keep in mind is that you can hear your heart beat on doppler as well (even in your stomach). The best way to tell the difference is check your pulse while listening to the sounds of the galloping horse. The whooshing sound is usually the blood flowing through the placenta. You can time the heart beat by counting the number of beats for 10 seconds and then multiplying that by 6. The baby's beat should be 120-160 beats per minute (depending on how far along you are). Make sure you use plenty of the ointment or lotion they sent with the doppler. Happy listening!
