Hi, Estee! No, I didn't take a calcium supplement b/c the doctor told me all I needed was my prenatal vitamins. He never even asked how much calcium I consumed a day or anything. (I recently switched doctors and am getting much better info. now.) But anyway, that is why I am a__suming it is the milk...b/c I haven't had heartburn once since I started getting more of it in my diet. I don't know if it works for everyone, but it did work for me.

My doctor did not say that tums did not work, rather that it had created calcium deposits, or gallstones/kidney stones. I also was not given any other meds that would have made any money for the doctor.

Tums consists of Calcium carbonate and while it neutralizes stomach acids temporarily, because your stomach needs to be acidic to process food properly, it becomes more acidic after (sort of like a thermostat), which makes things worse in the long run, but keeps you on tums even more. The calcium citrate, carbonate, or if possible, drinking more milk, will make the world of difference. It also will stop leg cramps. Have had more than 5 women increase calcium after leg cramps and they went away for rest of pregnanct. Estee, I glad your calcium seems o.k. If you experience negative effects, like more hearburn when you increase it, try a different brand, since I noticed that yours has some calcium carbonate.

Wow I'm actually glad I read that...my doc is always suggesting tums...though like I said usually I just try to lay down for a few minutes which seems to help me...but I know for now on I wont even try the tums...what about rolaids...are those the same as tums?

I also get bad heartburn. The only thing I have found that helps mine is to drink a couple of gla__ses of milk.

Have some bread. My husband suggested this to me and it does make me feel better. Of course I did eat 3 slices of sticky white bread. I ate them very slow and the burning was much better
