Wondering About Placenta Previa And Getting Amnio

Hi Everyone,
I am 17 weeks pregnant and 39 yo. I was diagnosed last week with a marginal placenta previa. Now today my Ob office calls me and says I have an elevated risk for Downs (1 in 120). I was going to get an amnio tomorrow and have heard that it can agitate a placenta previa. I am also getting a level II ultrasound. I am hoping the ultrasound will decrease the risk of DS. If not I may have to get the amnio. Has anyone every had an amnio who has Placenta Previa? Do you know anything about if it is contraindicated? Any info would be much appreciated. Trying to not get too nervous but it is difficult.
Thanks, Kerry

If it were me, I would wait until after the ultrasound and see if they find any markers for Downs before doing an amnio. Amnio's carry a risk without even having previa. How did they determine you had an elevated risk, was it the bloodwork? Good luck. I know it is harder being an older mom, we are the same age and I am going for my level 2 ultrasound in just a few hours.

I would not go for an amnio at all. Would you terminate if it came back positive for downs? I'm sure you wouldn't, so why take the risk. I agree with clindholm, get the level 2 ultrasound and put off the amnio.
