Hey mamas- Just stopping in because I had an appt today. Nothing too crazy, we just listened to the heart beat. I have an u/s scheduled on 11/7 which is my mom's b-day. I told her that her present is getting to know if she'll get another granddaughter or grandson. :)

Hello everyone,
I am back on the net after a month...
I'll have my 20 week scan on Friday and my husband and I are so impatient to find out if everything is all right first and then if it s a boy or a girl.
I have a little concern about the name we are thinking to the baby. We are both French and even if our baby will be born in the US, we will be back in France in 18months so the baby will be raised in France mainly. So we are thinking to give him/her a French fisrt name and a more international/US/English name as middle name.
Here is our choice, could you please let me know your feelings about it. Do you think the 1st name can be pronounced by Englsih speakers
Girl: Aliénor Sydney
Boy: Elouan Sean
Aliénor can be written without the accent and it's the French for Eleanor. It'spronouce Ali-ay-nor not Alien-or. I think Elouan is less trouble.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Elodie

Oc7, I think both names are "Charmant"!!!!! and easy to say. I think it is good to choose French names seeing as you are in the US on a temporary basis. Good Luck on Friday.

Hello,
Thanks DENISEB for your answer. It's not an easy choice to pick a name. We had to figure out the pronounciation which for a same name is often diferent in French and English. Have you decide of name yet?
We can't wait to on Friday....My last scan was 2 months ago and I really look forward to seeing this baby again.

CourtneyHope: I can imagine it's been almost 3 months for you. Did you get to hear heart bits at least during those 3 months. When is your due date?
I had an appointment early this month so we have some in-utero news but still can't wait to see him/her.
I feel the kicks more and more often too. Sometimes it feels like I got a open bottle of Champagne in my tummy....

oc73bzh - we did get to hear the heartbeat at our last appt, and it was so cute! I am due March 21st. So I will be 19 weeks 6 days at my appt Friday. I just can't wait to call the baby by it's name, not baby....or Sesame. We call it Sesame because we found out at exactly 4 weeks we were expecting, and at that time it was the size of a sesame seed. When are you due?

Sesame....that's cute!
I call it bébé which the French form baby (think you'd have guess) and I wish I an call him by his name.
I am due on March the 16th which is just a week before you. I'd like it to born on the 19th as my husband is born in March and I am born on a 19th that would be great! But I doubt it...
So what name did you choose for the baby?

Oc7- My husband's surname is french... so he really wanted to come up with french names. I actually mentioned your name and he loves it. We may end up with a little Elodie ourselves! (I'm still leaning towards my Grandma's name, Gwendolyn) I also love the name Eleanor, so I think the french version is beautiful. We find out next Friday if it's a boy or girl so I'll keep you posted on if you'll end up with a little namesake in Milwaukee, WI.

meganmacg: glad you like my name....
It was very popular in France 25yrs ago! It's either Greek or Latin origin depending on the website you refer too.
I know a little Elodie in UK, usually English speakers like it and it's easy to say.
Gwendolyn is nice too. It means "white ring".
If you want a French name for your daugther/son let me know I could give you some French websites where lots of names are listed.

That would be great! We aren't really serious about names yet since we don't know if it's a boy or girl. That would be very helpful when we start working on that, though.
We both like Elodie since it's the pretty much the same in English and French and it's just a pretty name.

We have chosen Penelope (Penny) Hope for a girl, and Oliver (Olly) Robert for a boy. Super excited to be able to call Sesame by it's real name!!! Two more days couldn't come any quicker!!!

meganmacg: well once you know let me know... in the meantime you can try to go on:
three double v. aufeminin . com / idees-prenom . html
(erae the space between)
Then you select if you want for a girl a boy or unis_x, the length of the name, if it's in fashion at the moment and its popularity.
Lots of US websites I have been on give really weird French names such as Germaine which was fine for our great grand mother but not for your daughter....
CourtneyHope: I like the names you've chosen but in France everybody will laugh at us if we call our baby Hope or Robert.... Robert is consider to be very old fashioned (man ar. 60 and above) and for Hope we don't usually give such name as Hope or Joy.
I really enjoy looking for the different ways of naming babies in different countries.
