BLEEDING DURING SECOND TRIMESTER

Bleeding is my nightmare every time I use the bathroom. I am so frustrated with the amount of time I spend desperately wondering if there is still a baby or not. Clotting, Bleeding bright red, brownish and pink... What ever the color or how thick. My OBGYN is probably the only person on the planet who wishes I wasn't pregnant because I go almost every three days complaining of bleeding at 8 weeks then 9, 10, 11, 12. I am beginning my 13th week. My cervix is sealed shut, my baby is moving around and having a blast inside growing and it's heartbeat is the only thing that lets me have a nonstressful drive back home. Bleeding during pregnancy makes my heart race and my mind prepare for the worst news. I wonder why and how it happens to only some women.

Hi ladies, I was actually doing research on not having cramps after having a baby and this board came up. I read through some of your situations. I too had bleeding during my pregnancy, once at 16 weeks and the next at about 22 weeks. The first was brownish and minimal and my doctor said it was old blood and not to worry. The second time was bright red and sent me to the ER. After an ultrasound, the baby was fine and they had no explanation. 3 days on bedrest and then ever since I was fine. My doctor said as long as the baby was moving he was fine. Well, he is out in the family room playing happily (he's 15 months old). So, I KNOW how scary this is for all of you. I remember the first time it happened I was sobbing as I laid on my left side and tried to relax but was sure I was having a miscarriage. The second time I was a little calmer because I had been through it before and Matthew was still moving so I knew that was a good thing. I hope this at least brings you some comfort as you struggle with bleeding in pregnancy. Sometimes they just don't know what happens. They think I just over did it and it was my body saying slow down. I wish you ALL the best with your babies!! Happy New Year!

Hi, I had a scare over Christmas too. Woke up and found a streak of very dark brown blood in my pyjama bottoms and then brownish watery discahrge on wiping. I rang the hospital who told me to come down straight away and have the babies heartrate checked. Thankfully it was fine. That day I experienced a slight brownish discharge but then it cleared up. Today I have had nothing and I am 16 weeks pregnant with my first baby. No-one prepares you for possible bleeding in pregnancy, its very scary. Positive thoughts to all x.

i would have thought that you would have lost the child due to excessive bleeding

I've had like most of you on here, a small bit of red blood then brown spotting over the last 2 days, I'm 14 weeks pregnant (4 january 2005), I've just had a visit from my midwife and she thinks its due to doing strenous activity's and maybe from intercourse, I've just heard the babys heart beat (possible two) and all is fine, as all of u have been told too i have to abstain from s_x and rest until the spotting stops. i hope all your pregnancys end with a healthy baby

I am 10 weeks pregnant and i have suffered a miscarriage before at 10 weeks. I woke up to fine i had a brown discharge on my knickers and it is quite watery, i have no pain with it, is this normal? i have to go for a scan on monday to see if everything is ok.

Lynette - January 7

hi Kerry, i have the same watery brown discharge that you have im 14 weeks ive been told its a little corrosion of the cervix and with rest and no s_x the baby should be fine, but if theres pain or heavy bleeding i should go to hospital i would suggest the same for you, hope all is ok

Today I am 15 wks and have heard the baby's heartbeat again (150). The bleeding had stopped after 3 days but now I am experiencing some bleeding, not a whole lot...but enough for me to wish it would stop. I am hoping to get an ultrasound this week so I can be rea__sured everything is ok. I know this bleeding during pregnancy can be very discouraging but you are all in my prayers.

I feel so much better having found this page. I'm 13 wks with baby #1 and started a heavy flow this afternoon (I had no trace of blood throughout the pregnancy). I called the doc and was told to "wait." What torture! Thanks to you all sharing your experiences; I have a much more positive outlook and feel better prepared to accept the news, whatever it is, when I go to the doc tomorrow. Thanks everyone, and good luck to all.

Millie - January 10

Hi kristy and Dee, I had heavy flow of bleeding in my 10th week or so. So much that it would not stop even after lying down and elevating my legs. But when I went for the sono, the babies were fine. Now I am in my 24th week. Now I do spot once in a while but the babies seem to be doing fine so far. So just hang in there and stay calm no matter what. As long as you do not have terrible pain with bleeding you are fine. Staying calm and positive helps a lot. Good luck to you both and all that are going thru' this type of ordeal.

I had an abortion 6 years ago. I am now pregnant and in my 4th week. I am worried that it may have caused me to have an incompetent cervix

Millie - January 13

Chantal, have you seen your Ob Gyn for this pregnancy? They will be able to tell you if you have anything like that. I had an abortion after an incomplete miscarriage last year. My cervix had opened early in pg. This year I am pg again and so far there have not been any probs with the cervix, touchwood! But I was seen a lot more often in the beginning by my doc just to make sure that it was not the case (I was bleeding). Maybe you need to tell your doc about the concerns you have. That way they will take care and you will have peace of mind. Good luck!!

I am like the rest of you I am 15 weeks pregnant and at 10 weeks i had my first spotting. Even though i felt it was the end of the world I woke the next day to feel alive and still pregnant. I found out that i have a low laying placenta that the doctors feel will correct itself and I had a hematoma(sp) which is a bruise inside the placenta. I was sent home to take it easy and no pelvic activity (s_x). A week later i was back in the ER with pains on my left side. Another ultra sound found that the Hematoma was no longer present and they have no clue what is wrong with me at this point. Baby is still Okay. Yesterday at 5AM I woke up and found I was spotting bright red and I had 1 blackish clot. back in the ER for my shortest visit ever and I heard again they dont know whatis wrong with me but the baby is Okay. Wait and see is the famous saying I have found amongst doctors. Later that day i had a v____al ultrasound and we found the cervix was closed which is a good sign but there was a little fliud in the cervix. I have no clue what that means- probably more water discharge expected? The placenta is a concern the doctor discovered and she scheduled another ultrasound for the 19th. They do they 3D ultrasound in cases like this, I guess they can see everything more clearly and it is magnified alot?. Until the 19th I am on pelvic rest and off of work. Has anyone had placenta preva before and how did your pregancy turn out? take care of you and your babies. by the way on the ultrasound my baby was swimming like an olympic swimmer :-)
