I was wondering if anyone knows if you have a normal prengnancy and normal labor do you get the choice of a C-Section or Vaginal delivery? I want so badly to have a c-section but I'm afraid I wont get the choice. I was really small before so I'm afraid of pain, tearing, ect....you know the normal stuff!! Thanks!

the chances of them giving you this option is really slim to be honest.

C-sections are done generally in emergency or planned situations only. I can understand your fear of tearing, b/c I had the same fear but trust me...you will be ok. The more you worry, the worse it will be, so let nature take over and enjoy the fact that you and your baby will be healthy enough to avoid a c-section. Good luck. Also, talk to your doc about an episiotomy and meds for pain relief!

Nervousmommy2b, don't be afraid of a v____al delivery. If you have an epidural the pain will be totally manageable. I tore with my first and yeah, it sucked for a few weeks, but everything healed perfectly and I wouldn't trade that for a c-section any day. If you are worried about an epidural, don't be. It doesn't hurt at all. Just a cold from the betadine and then a small pinch, that's it. I am a huge wimp too when it comes to pain, but it really wasn't that bad.

Hi i can understand what your saying but I think a c-section is major surgery and you shouldnt have it unless you really need it, there are studies that baby's are born healthier with a Vag birth (as getting squeezed down the birth ca___l prepares their lungs) that is natures way after all and your body is designed for that! As for tearing, you might not tear, but if you have a c-section you will have a tear right across your belly, then there's recovery time, and the risks that are involved in major surgery, blood clots etc! Vaginal birth is defo best, this is my first and Im scared too but is plenty of pain releif there, and I heard giving birth with an epidural is like being at the dentist you can feel it but no pain - sounds good to me :)

Well they don't give you the option. C-Sections are for emergency or if the dr feels it is neccessary. Also I had surgery in June to fix my tubes. It was the same type as if they had done a c-section. It took me 6 weeks to recover. For the 1st 2 weeks I couldn't walk upright because of the pain. I have 2 children and the birth hurts yes but the recovery is easy compared to the surgery. I think the pain I had from surgery was worse then the pain of a v____al birth.

Michelly - Can you ask the Doctor to tie your tubes right after you have the baby? That was my goal - I didnt' realize it was a 6 week recovery - wow I have to check into that- I love this board I get so much info!

I have to disagree with everyone saying how horrbile csections are I just had one dec 18th and was feeling better 7 days later..yes for the first week I walked hunched over by honestly by the next week I was up and about feeling much better! my csection was done as an emergency situation after 36 hours of hard labor with no dilation and I had preeclampsia so she had to come out...at the hospital we use all subsequent pregnancies have to be delievered via csection due to the risks of vbachs. I'm not sure they give u the choice..but honestly my csection was a great experience. as far as the epi goes u have to have that done for a csection as well...but I never felt any of it... so epis are easy to get. but incase ur hospital is similar to mine in rules u might wanna try for the v____al birth...I am kind of sad I will never get to know how it feels to naturally deliever.

cors1wfe... I had my tubes tied 6 weeks after my v____al birth 9 years ago. In june I had surgery to un-tie them. For the tubal they are very little incisions and I was good the next day. But the un-tieing that I had in June they open you up like a c-section and that recovery was painful for me.

Michelly - Thank you so much - I was totally stressed out about doing it after my baby! I didnt' want to be immobile after giving birth - I am very confident that I will have a v____al delivery after my previous 2 so I was nervous about experiencing C-section pain! Now I can relax! I just have to make sure the Catholic hospital I will give birth at will do the Tubal. I have heard they try to give women a hard time about it.

I say if you can have a regular v____al birth, do it! I am also very small & pet_t & was very scared of tearing down there - I was terrified & really thought I had wanted a c section. But in the end I went thru 12 hours of labor & they needed to use the vac_m to get my son out - and no tearing in the least, no stiches, & I had a wonderfull recovery & was totally healed after about 4 weeks. I have many friends that have both given birth & had c sections & they all have said the recovery from a v____al birth was much easier.

You know, tearing down there and then being st_tched up doesn't leave as bad/painless of a scar as does c-section. You can get up and walk after having a v____al birth, but you cannot do much after having a c-section, since it's a major surgery. The v____al scar heals up in about 2 weeks, since there is so much blood flow in that area. But the c-section scar takes a lot longer, since it's not just the skin but also an internal organ that was being st_tched.

Wow, I think you should watch a video of a c-section. Yikes!! Lol. I can't imagine wanting that surgery. My worst fear is a c-section. Tearing is so much easier and less painful than a major surgery. You may or may not even have tearing and may or may not have st_tches if you do tear but with a c-section it's like a ginormous tear down the center of your abdomen and it makes it hard to feed the baby or pick it up. I feel you, though, because I am nervous about a baby coming through that little opening, but our bodies were made for it. Good luck!

tish212 - January 18

ok once again I disagree...a csection is NOT a tear down the center of ur abdomin... its a small 4 inch incision across ur bikini line... u can't even see mine anymore and it was only a month ago..and I had no problems holding my dd afterwards... I'm not saying chose a csection over v____al... I'm just saying it is not the nightmare everyone makes it out to be... yes it hurt but I've had worse surgery that took much longer to heal from.

This is my fourth baby, and to be perfectly honest, I have never been given a choice. I am a small woman with small hips, too and was always afraid of tearing and what not. I have not teared yet! It is a miracle what happens down there! lol Wow! I can't believe you actually want to have a c-section... geez... that scares the bejeezus out of me! lol But, seriously, I wouldn't worry too much about that stuff right now. Nature will take it's course and you will be just fine. Trust me.

I understand your nervous about giving birth natural, But thats what your body is made to it. It can handle it, and if for some reason you are not able to thats when a c-section is needed. Why would you want to put yourself through a major surgery if its not needed? Most woman heal up right away after doing it natural. I dont know what tearing feels like because I never tore, but honestly... dont you think having your uterus st_tched up will be a little more painful? I just dont understand why anyone would opt for a c-sectin if its really not needed. From my experience after getting an epi it really isnt that painful, just alot of pressure, but its nothing that someone wouldnt be able to handle... it feels like you have to take the biggest c___p of your life. Honestly, You can handle far more pain than you think you can. And Tish, we get that your c-section went Perfect, but the reality of it is is that most women dont heal that fast. You said it hurts, But after a v____al birth there is hardly any pain, just soreness. I dont know if you had to take pain meds but for me i didnt need anything, not even Tylenol. And every friend of mine that has had a c-section still has their scar, not that that should even matter. Your lucky that yours went so smoothly but for most people its not like that, most women arent able to hold their babies right after they are taken out, ALOT of women are put under so they arent even there to see their baby born. And then there is infection to worry about. I just dont think its worth it if you are able to go naturally without any complications. And nervousmommy one thing I would do is ask women that have had a c-sections if they feel like they missed out on a v____al birth , Tish even said shes a little upset she didnt get to try it natural. I guess I find it so unreal that you are nervous to do it naturally, and here the whole time Im terrified for a c-setion. But each to their own right?
