May Mommies 2009

I'm soooooooooo disappointed! I had my ultrasound yesterday, and the doctor couldn't tell the s_x of the baby. It kept hiding in the corner and crossing its legs. What's worse, they won't give me another ultrasound unless there are issues later on. I know I could pay to have an ultrasound done elsewhere, but it seems like such a lot of money to pay just to have my curiosity satisfied 19 weeks early. The good news is that Baby appears to be healthy and doing well. I guess I'll just have to prepare two names and two going home outfits for the baby, just like my mother used to do it!

Hey May Mommies! Haven't posted till now, but have been popping in and out. This has been a quiet group, so I thought I'd post and hopefully we can get some convo going in here! I'm due with my second baby (surprise gender) on May 25th. My DD was a May 2007 baby. I still keep in touch with many of the girls I met on this very board 2 years ago! Anyway, hope to share the rest of the half way mark with some of you. How many FTM's? (first time moms) This is such an exciting time.

llmommy - January 26

Hi, Jessica! We do seem to be a quiet group, don't we? So you're going for the gender surprise? I wasn't going to, but it looks like that's how it's going to be. Did you know with your first, or did you keep her gender a surprise, too? That's neat that your babies will be two years apart. Do you think they might end up with the same birthday? My oldest will be nearly three years older than this one, but I have another in between.

BabyMakes7 - January 26

Hello everyone! It HAS been quiet here. I've been lurking, but haven't taken time to post until now. It's nice to see some new faces, and I'm looking forwards to reading updates from those who posted earlier. Nothing to really report here, am doing well, though I tire easily. In the oast week I feel as is she's really grown. I'm so easily winded, not sure how I'll make it to 40 weeks, LOL. Soon we will all be moving up to the 3rd trimester, and it scares me to know we're getting SO close when I'm so unprepared! Post often, i've been missing the updates!

jessica72 - January 26

Good morning ladies! Ilmommy, the suspense is killing me, but it's kind of exciting too. Now that I'm past the half way mark, I'm like...eh, we've come this far. :) Now reading back it seems in your case you want to find out, but baby hasn't been cooperating. Too funny. It's funny how it's almost like they know you're trying to sneak a peek. Glad babe is looking healthy and happy. We did find out with our firstborn, because I had to have a little control, lol and this keeping it a surprise with #2 was DH's wish. Yes, they will be close in age and there is a huge possibility that they will have very close bdays because i have to have a scheduled c-section. But we're going to try to prevent the same day if we can! Babymakes7, I have found myself tiring by the end of the day. Where is all this energy they speak of in the second tri? Yes, it is crazy to think we're like 15 or so weeks away. Can we have due dates and stuff from everyone again? Genders if you know?

llmommy - January 26

Yeah, where's the energy I was promised? I'm tired when I get up in the morning, and tired when I go to bed. But it's not as bad as it was in the first trimester. It's strange to think that we'll be done with the second trimester soon. My morning sickness took so long to subside that I feel like I'm just starting the second trimester. As for gender, I could have gone either way (surprise or find out early) with my first, but my husband couldn't wait. Now I'm the one dying to know!

llmommy - January 26

Oh, and since Jessica asked for a refresher course on everyone's due dates and stuff, I'm due May 28. No, I don't know the gender, and may not find out until I deliver. I have two daughters, ages 2 and a half and 14 months. And in case anyone's interested, I'm 29 years old, happily married, and I live in Southern California. I work about four hours a week, (teaching music, mostly,) and other than that I get to stay home with my girls. My username, btw, is LLmommy. I'd tried to register several times in the past, and it never worked, so this time I was kind of in a hurry and didn't really expect it to work. So I forgot to put capital L's, and now it's confusing.

jessica72 - January 26

LL, your kids will have a blast growing up so close in age. I am probably the grandma in the house, 36 yrs young ;), been married to my wonderful DH for 3 years. We got PG with our first about a year or so after we married. We live in South Texas and this is my first year as a stay at home Mom after working in education for 13yrs! Love it!! This pregnancy was rocky at the beginning and being automatically lumped into High Risk category didn't help, but it seems to be going great now. I've got an U/S Wednesday!!

TatiK - January 26

How are you ladies doing weight wise??? So far I am up about 12 lbs and I was just 24 weeks yesterday. MY wieght now is about 155 lbs. It seems everytime I have a GOOD meal I put on a pound or two and it won't go down after that. LOl

BabyMakes7 - January 26

I'm due May 14th, with another baby girl. This is my 8th pregnancy, and I have 4 other children. My kids are 13, 12, 11 and 9. It's great to have them close together! We have a ball together, I think the baby will be a challenge, but we're a team, so I know we'll all do fine. Sorry Jessica, I get Grandma rights, I'm 45, and conceived naturally. We didn't expect this, but we welcome her nonetheless! Tatik, I have gained 30 lbs! I have weight issues, but it seems to have packed on. I'm trying not to be too depressed about it, but it's hard. I seem to get "bouts" of energy, but nothing sustainable. Wish I would though! I've been struggling with "the committee" on names. Was MUCH easier before they had opinions, LOL!

llmommy - January 27

I'm not sure how much I've gained. I was weighing periodically, but then we moved, and I got too caught up in all the unpacking to pay much attention to my weight. Now I'm scared to check! But I don't think it's too bad: maybe I've gained about 15 pounds, which would put me at about 148. You're high risk, Jessica? You mentioned that you'll be having a c-section, too. Have you had one before, or is it due to an issue with this particular pregnancy? And "Grandma" BabyMakes7, congratulations on your pregnancy! I read so many posts of young women who just can't seem to get pregnant, and it makes your story that much more exciting. My mom had my baby brother when she was 41 or 42, I think. I'm fourteen years older than he is, and he was always "my" baby. I think you'll see your older children developing in special ways as they greet and care for their new sibling. And I'm sure they'll be a huge help, too.

jessica72 - January 27

Now if only I'd gone back to page one and re-read everything I would have been more caught up on everyone, lol. BabyMakes7, congratulations! That is such a blessing and what a perfect blend. How has this pregnancy gone for you compared to your previous children? You've got quite the helpers there. My DD looks at my big belly and says "baby" but then she lifts her shirt and says the same thing. She probably thinks we all walk around with babies in our tummy. :) Weight gain: With this one, I am up 15lbs so far. Started at 130 and am 144 or so. I made some cookies this weekend, so I might get a scolding tomorrow. Looking back on my journal with DD, I was 20lbs heavier at this stage, so I figure that is good. I just feel big because I feel like I've popped over the last few weeks. LL, long story, but I'm high risk due to a few factors: I had some early bleeding that they found to be a subchorionic hematoma. Luckily that resolved itself pretty quick, but it was scary for awhile. Also, I have some fibroids, had a Leep procedure last year, and I am a previous C-section mommy because my DD never fully dropped. She was 9 lbs 3 oz!! The good thing about all this is the frequent u/s. Not too bad of a payoff! So what is everyone craving these days? I am craving cream cheese bagels and sweet tea. Oh and I miss an occa__sional gla__s of red wine with dinner.

BabyMakes7 - January 27

It's nice to see the activity here! :) Jessica, how often have you had to have u/s? I hope everything goes well tomorrow & it's just routine. I was "surprised" with my 2-4th kids. I found out with my first because we had been told we'd miscarried and I just wanted to know EVERYTHING was okay by the time we knew I hadn't. As I'm starting ALL over this time, I thought maybe it would be nice to know pink vs blue. ;) I'm feeling good, but I felt great for all of my pregnancies. I'm DEFINITELY older though. The loosening of the ligaments seems to exacerbate arthritis, can you imagine? ;) But other than tiring much more easily, I feel wonderful. I am very excited, though I have SOOOOO much to do. Not sure how we'll be juggling the rooms around to fit everyone, but we'll manage somehow! My kids will be helpers, I just want to make sure that dh & I are always careful that they don't feel that they have to take on a bunch of responsibility for OUR baby. I've seen that happen too much with friends and my oldest is already an "old soul." I'd like to see her enjoy her teen years! :) I can't believe I'm under 2 weeks from the third trimester. When I think about it that way...I get very anxious about all the unfinished business. lol. LL hang in there with regard to the "dying to know." It does make it pretty exciting when the birth comes to learn more about your little one. Tatik, I'm sure that you'll keep the weight under control...try not to worry yourself too much. Oh and Jessica, thanks for bringing back some GREAT memories. When I was pregnant with my first son, I had my girls running around with dolls up their shirts...was beautiful. Then the b___stfeeding was HYSTERICAL. I'd not forgotten, but sure hadn't thought about it for a long time. I think I'll "remind" them of that this afternoon when they're home from school ;) . Ought to be worth hearing "Oh mom" and seeing the eyes roll!

jessica72 - January 27

That is hilarious about the bfeeding. I hadn't even thought of that. I can't wait to see what my little girl thinks of that. She already seems fascinated with my "b___bees" as she likes to exclaim rather loudly anytime I'm changing. :) I've had over 8 u/s, but most of them were in the first few weeks. Now I'm getting them every 3 weeks to check cervix length and all that. I think after tomorrow, my doc will feel comfortable dropping the number down. I always get excited to see the LO. I hear ya about all the unfinished business, but relax in knowing it will get done. I'm glad these wee babies don't need much those first few weeks except a place to sleep and truckloads of onesies and diapees. We're in teh process of figuring out how to approach DD's "big girl room" It will kind of depend on what gender this baby is, so we're at a standstill. Tatik, it sounds like your'e doing great with the weight. I agree don't stress about it, but at the same time the fact that you're aware is good. I hate that bloated after a huge meal feel I get!

llmommy - January 27

That's so cute, when the older kids do the baby up the shirt thing. My older daughter does that, too. I have a picture of me her with a baby doll zipped up into her jammies, and we're both showing off our big bellies. She seems to have a pretty good understanding of what's going to happen. She talks about the baby being "this big" (gesturing with her hands) and says she wants it to come out. Earlier in my pregnancy, when I was trying to explain things to her, she seemed to understand: she'd point to my belly and say "baby!" But then she saw my brother, who is quite overweight, and she pointed to his belly, too, and said, "BABY!" Which, of course, made for a lot of laughing. Jessica, it sounds like you've had a bit of a rough ride so far. And a big baby for your first! Wow. My first was only 6 lbs., 15. oz. My second was 8 lbs., 3 oz. The funny thing was that I never seemed to notice my first baby "dropping." Women often complain during those final weeks of pregnancy; how it feels like they have a bowling ball between their legs, how they have all this constant pressure, and all that. I never felt that. I felt fine. I thought for sure I was going to go overdue: after all, don't most first time mothers? But she came two weeks early, just out of the blue. I never saw the mucous plug, either. My water didn't break until just before she was born. I guess I kind of expected things with my second daughter to be similar, but she was three days late, and I definitely felt more of the pressure and discomfort that other women complain of.

jessica72 - January 27

Yes, this pregnancy was rocky for about 6 weeks but once I was into the 2nd trimester and out of the "danger zone" for that SCH, it has been a very good pregnancy, save for the minor blahs here and there. My first pregnancy was amazing start to finish. I also didnt' feel that dropping sensation, LL. Even though I was huge, I wasn't too uncomfortable until like week 38 or so. So I can't complain..it just sounds like it's been miserable for me, but I really love being pregnant and if it wasn't getting harder on my bod, I'd do it over and over again. :)
