Hi everyone.....I am 25 weeks pregnant with my first baby and went into the hospital the other night due to bleeding. I was told I had partial previa and that there was a good possibility the placenta can move upwards as my uterus continues to grow. I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with this and could shed some light on this. At my 18 week ultrasound the placenta was not even low lying so I can't imagine how this happened. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm surprised that it wasn't low to begin with - that's kind of odd. Maybe they missed it? I had bleeding in the first/second trimester (11 and 14 weeks) and they checked me again at 30 weeks. By that time everything was ok. Partial is better than complete coverage of the cervix. Did they schedule an u/s for later on? It doesn't really hurt anything, it just makes a v____al birth impossible because of course, the baby can't go THROUGH the placenta. They would have to do a c-section.

i had bleeding at 16 weeks, was diagnosed with a low lying placenta and put on pelvic rest. the placenta was attached to my cervix at that time. at 28 weeks, i had another ultrasound, and the placenta had migrated up. i was told that about 90% of early previas will resolve themselves. if it doesn't, you will need a c-section, but chances are, everything will be fine! good luck.

hi julymommy i had the same thing. at my 20 wk scan i was told everything was fine except that i had a low lying placenta. being a first baby i had NEVER heard of this before and all they said is that it should move, and usually does in most cases as the uterus grows, and they re-scheduled me for a 36 week scan to check it has moved. mine was also 'ab___ting the opening' as they put it, which is the best form because it means although it isnt quite there, it is nearly there and should move. im praying it does because being a first baby i want to experience real labour and a natural birth. good luck, let me know how you get on as you progress.

With DS, I had a low-lying placenta at 15 weeks and at 23 weeks it was marginal/partial previa (it was touching the os but not really covering it). By 31 weeks, it was completely out of the way. This time, I was diagnosed with a complete previa at 14 weeks and was confirmed as complete (practically centered over my cervical os) at 15 weeks. I go back for another u/s tomorrow (about 16 weeks) but I doubt it will have moved much. It usually takes several weeks to move out of the way. GL!

snickel do they tell you what causes it? all they said to me was that it should move by the time my 36 wk scan takes place!
