Hey I'm 23wks and I just had a racing heart and shortness of breath out of no were. I wasnt sure if it was a panic attack or if its was because I was lying on my back and got up too quick, but that was very scary I thought I was having a heart attack or asthma attack but I dont have asthma, and since its Saturday my doctor isnt in. I dont want to go to the ER if this is normal. Please if anybody can give me some reassurance that would be great.

I would probably at least call the ER and tell them your symptoms and see what they say. Chances are they would want to check you out just to be safe. I know i get a little short of breath sometimes and my heart will race, but not to the point where i get worried about it. So if it is worrying you i would get checked. Let us know.

I had this alot. Mostly in the first Trimester. I have suffered from panic attacks before in my teen years. All I could do was lay down and try to take deep breaths. I found laying on a cold floor helped a lot. I hope you get to talk to you doctor soon so you can find out this is normal.

I have that too, sometimes when I get up my heart races, then I panic, and it goes from there. Id call in to the emerg. see what they say, then make sure you speak to your Dr about it at your next Appt. My Dr said "well thats not really normal" but i nothing about it.

I have this - I had it with my last pregnancy ( I have a 14 mnth old) and I am pregnant now about 13 wks and I have it again - For me cutting the caffeine helps some - I still get it but no where near as much when I am drinking ice tea or coffee or soda - also my doctor said it might be anxiety. They have a hard time seeing what it is with me because I have to be there when it happens and it will come and go before I can get in to see them - I also have a heart murmur I only get while pregnant - a nurse told me it might be because of the body making and pumping more blood - so I am not sure what it is exactly but for ME this is apparently a part of pregnancy so I try and not get too upset or drink any caffiene and that really helps me. Good luck !

I have been told that you shouldnt lay on your back while pregnant because the vena cava which is the artery than runs down your back. The weight from your uterus can compress it, and make you feel short of breath and dizzy but you aren't hurting anything. It is best to lay on your side. I´m 20 weeks and have this too and the feeling of havinng short breath is not good.
Good Luck=)

Dr told me the heart thing can also be related to a cold, or virus you picked up.
