Tanning While Pregnant

I think it is sad that a women can't go 9 months with out tanning for her child. I mean if you want to look good than go put some make up on or get some new clothes with the money you want to spend on a tanning package. Why risk your health and your child's health over a stupid tanning package. I would just think that your child's safety is more important than a tanning package i mean come on now.

i agree with Leigh24. at the end of the day its only for 9 months so whats the big deal just refraining from it until after the baby is born!! there are so many good fake tans on the market she could use but instead she would rather run the risk with with the sunbeds, which everybody knows arent good you you. each to their own at the end of the day, but i know who i would put first.

You are not suppose to, same as a hot tub. It heats up the placenta too quickly, then when you get out the placenta has a very hard time regulating the correct temp. that its suppose to be at.

My doctor said that naturally tanning is not good for the skin but has no effect on the baby. Spinal Bifida develops within the first few weeks of pregnancy. I refrained from tanning during my first trimester, just to be on the extra safe side. I now tan, making sure to drink plenty of water and avoid high tingle lotions or super power beds, just to ensure my body heat doesn't get too high. I don't think a doctor would tell me it is safe if it is not. I think if you use common sense, it is safe to tan. Obviously if you feel too hot like you are going to be sick or pa__s out, then get out of the tanning bed. Dehydration is a known danger though, so it is essential to drink plenty of water. Getting too hot can occur in sun too or inside if you have no air conditioning, such as at work or school . It is not the same as a sauna or hot tub. My doc was very clear about not getting in a hot tub or sauna because you get too hot but told me tanning beds are safe. I would never jeapardize the health of my unborn baby. Sacrifices during pregnancy are essential such as avoding alcohol, drugs, intense work-outs, ..., however if a tan makes you feel better as everyone points out how big you are, then indulge in a little self-esteem boostimg whether its tan skin or a manicure. Self tanners may be more dangerous. I tried an expensive self tanner and broke out in a horrible rash.

It is not safe at all to tan I heard. I think you should check with your doctor but I believe by all the reading thus far, this is not safe for you nor the baby.

i used sun beds then found out i was pregnant so asked my midwife and she said i should stop as it takes away loads of foloic acid from your body which your baby needs
