Ok, I have seen lots of comments on being overweight affecting hcg levels. I also continue to test negative, but unless I am crazy, I am pregnant. AF was due March 1, but still no sign of her. If I were pg, I would be about 7 weeks. Wouldn't something be showing up by now? (If there is anything there) And does anyone know where to look on the web for more info on this? I am not finding anything at all. Thanks.

some women get negative hcg and negative bloods even though they are quite blatently pregnant. its common in overweight women. it could be to do with the concentration of the hcg levels running around a larger body. don t know for sure tho. good luck

this is when being overweight works against you. welcome to pure-d-hell. There's no otherway to put this: basically if you have a higher concentration of fat cells (or are larger than your frame) I've found (generally speaking) that it takes these women infinitely longer to show a positive. Doesn't matter if you take blood tests or even urine tests. The unfortunate part is that the fatty tissues absorb the hcg levels.
Here's a question have you found that you've lost weight? Have you noticed cellulite reducing? That's a telling sign. Much love******

LOL! OMG sometimed I do get a good laugh at what people write to each other! I am overweight and I have done my research about the matter - I am about 80 lbs overweight and my pregnancy tests came back positive 3 days before my period - it did not take infinitely longer to get a positive result. BTW, The study being linked here is about oral administration of HCG and not the production of HCG due to pregnancy. Christi, I know women here have the best of intentions, but sometimes, like in this case, they take things out of context or express their own unfounded personal theories. If weight was a true issue on test responses you would know so from reliable sources like your obgyn. Please rest a__sured that fat will not delay your positive results :)

I dont agree with you Mary, My doc told me and my sister that the reason we didnt test pos until our 12th week was that fat absorbs HCG, what your talking about is where they give you HCG and it help lose weight .....because the fat absorbs its and expells it, I think my doc knows what he is talking about and I and my sister are cases that it has happend in...Know what your talking about before you come on here trying to burst someones bubble

To the lady with the nice mouth who is not brave enough to share her name: You totally missed the point of the thread here - let me clarify it for you: The topic here is how being overweight can cause your pregnancy test to give you a false negative, not about the general issues of being overweight. False information was given to Christi about it. The link given is totally irrelevant - FACT. The first response clearly states - "dont know for sure tho" -is making it clear it is a personal oppinion- FACT. SugarPie is saying that a telling sign of pregnancy is a visible reduction in cellulite based on that irrelevan report -FACT. Another FACT is that I if someone is asking for advise and I see the responses are wrong I will state so without using foul language or being rude, but a__sertive enough to make my point. FACT if you did not like to be called on your bull, there is no need to use bad language, unless of course you have no better arguments to defend your post. A final FACT - if you have the guts to write something down as the ultimate truth, but you are not truly sure about it, there is no shame on publicly admiting you may not be right.

Amy,
As I said I am 80 lbs overweight - ttc for over 1 year now - I have done my homework on the subject- this is not based on what a doctor told me or what a sister has been thru, but based on true medical reseach, which not alot of women do on this site.

i do alot of true medical research. research that shows that obesity and even being drastically underweight can cause fertility problems and trouble with hcg. i only evr provide info im sure of and if im not sure of it then i givethem possibilities and tell people im not sure. you may have been ttc for a year and your test showed up positive early but many many women have cases where that doesnthappen because of their weight being an issue. most medical research isnt valid or reliable either. these women know what they are talking about coz they have been through or are going through these situations. so please dont try and make them feel down about their hopes. give them a chance

Might not be in your case, But I have done my homeowrk on this over the last 2 years, After my Doc told me that I wanted to know for myself. Why dont you just leave this thread if you dont agree no one asked for your negative responses just people trying to help other people

I will put this in simple terms and drop it after this - HCG gets absorbed by fat cells when the serum is digested by the individual. The production of HCG by a pregnant woman is not digested by the same. Once again, being overweight can cause many problems with ttc and trying to keep a pregnancy and all that jazz ... However, a HCG test is not affected by your % of body fat. I challenge anyone to find a reputable link in the entire WWW saying that HCG serum produced by pregnant women is absorbed by the fat cells and in fat women this can cause the test resutls to be different.

Whoa. Wait a second. I was speaking about my particular situations and those I've observed women who were slightly to moderately overweight. I'm not saying that losing weight and cellulite reduction is the end all be all sign of pregnancy! I was simply inquiring if she's noticed this! My point was to take in consideration BMI, fat, frame structure and so forth. I'm overweight for my body frame. I do not have big bones whatsoever. I have extremely tiny bones.. therefore, I know the fat on my a__s is plentiful and I'm quite sure that since I'm not on a diet and eating everything I want that the hcg MUST be making me lose weight. The link I provided was to show that they've linked hcg to weightloss in a sense of using it as a medium to induce weightloss. I was not saying the link was to provide the ultimate answer to pregnancy discoveries as much as to show a link that weightloss can occur.
That being said, Mary you are the reason why many of us hold back in answering people. Seriously if you've been here for any length of time you would know that I always speak in "general terms" hence why I wrote "GENERALLY SPEAKING". Just because you're fat and came up with a big positive sign doesn't mean that every overweight woman has that same luxury! And if we could all rely on our ob/gyns for answers not one of our a__ses would be sitting here and dealing with your psycho primadonna a__s!

I have been reading this thread and did not want to bud in, but, the way I see it Mary was more informed and I appreciate that. She was not mean on her response and then someone else told her to f off. why? Everyone should be able to help, and she is being put down for trying to help. I bet you will all hate me for writing this.
