FYI - June 14

If pregnancy occurs after tubal ligation it can be an ectopic pregnancy, one growing in the tube. This occurs in up to 65 percent of tubal ligation failures. If the pregnancy makes it into the uterus it would be no different than any spontaneous intrauterine pregnancy without tubal ligation history. That is to say, miscarriage, preterm labor, birth defects and full-term babies raised through college may result. If an ectopic pregnancy occurs a laparoscopy or laparotomy would be required. The pregnancy cannot survive. The pregnancy needs to be removed as soon as an ectopic pregnancy is discovered. If it is not removed it can rupture through the tube and cause intra-abdominal bleeding and death. Through the healing process; small openings can develop over a period of time in the scar tissue at the tubal ligation site. Once this happens pregnancy can occur with subsequent ovulation. If the thought crosses your mind that you might be pregnant – YOU MIGHT BE - it is imperative that you come in for a pregnancy test! Tubal failure rates are shown below – on average one in 250 women become pregnant after tubal ligation and 1 in 600 men father pregnancies after vasectomy. Tubal ligation can be undertaken during cesarean section or between pregnancies. The tubes can be resected and ligation or can be cauterized. Success rates vary based on patient's age and the procedure utilized. See the following information... bipolar cautery failure rates - 5.4 percent under 28 years of age, 2.1 percent from 28 to 34 years of age, 0.6 percent over 34 years of age <this is the most common form of tubal ligation> clips or rings failure rates - 5.2 percent under 28 years of age, 3.1 percent from 28 to 34 years of age, 2.1 percent over 34 years of age <less common but good for younger patients because of higher successful reversal rates> Pomeroy type failure rates - 1.1 percent under 28 years of age, 0.6 percent from 28 to 34 years of age, 0.4 percent over 34 years of age <the most effective done at the time of cesarean section – successful reversal rates are higher with this method too>

So are any of you pregnant that have had your tubes tied? Has anyone got results back to find out if you are indeed pregnant? I go tomorrow to find out. Tubes tied 8 years ago after my 4th child. I am terrified!! Everyone is asking questions, but noone comes back to tell us if you are pregnant. I am curious what the results were for many of you.

I went to by obgyn yesterday, I am NOT pregnant. I have a bladder infections which is causes all the pain & pressure. The reason I only spotted for my Af was because my egg didn't not drop during its cycle. The doctor said this is why my b___st became sore a week later, my cycle was off track and my next period should be twice has heavey than normal because I will be releasing two eggs. He said I was not crazy for thinking I was pregnant because it is possible to become pregnant will a tubal. My body was just a little off track! I am so glad I went to the doctors & found out the truth, it was such a relief!

I am not pregnant either. What a relief! Blood test was negative. Not sure why I am feeling this way. Possible cyst on ovary. Doctor is sending me for a ultrasound.

Jill - July 12

Erika-How is your pregnancy going? What symptoms were you having? I had my tubes cut and tied 12 years ago 30 minutes after the birth of my third child. I was 26 yrs old. The doctor was suppose to cut, tie and burn but when I received the report from the hospital last week, it didn't say anything about cauterizing. The doctor who did it was not my ob/gyn, my ob/gyn was on vacation when I had my son so his back up delivered him and did my tl. For the past twelve years I have been like clock work. May 31st was the first day of my last period. HPT was neg last week, my bbs are starting to feel a little fuller and sore, I feel nauseated a little in the day and my stomach is pouching a little. I would love to be pg but my husband says he wouldn't.

I too am having the same symptons. I have fluttering on my left front side by my belly b___ton. I had a tubal in Dec. 2000 after my second child. I just recently had my period. About two days afterwards I felt dizzy and light-headed. I've already taken a few hpt's one came back with a faint line the other's neg. I go to the rr more now than ever especially through- out the night. My stomach is also starting to get hard???????? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Bobby - July 12

I am sort of in the same boat. I am 29. I have 3 children. I have never missed a period except for with my pregnancies with my three children. My periods are like clock work every month. Now, all of a sudden, no period. As of today I am 16 days late!. I had my tubes tied 3 1/2 years ago. I am having other symptoms too, like sore b___sts, frequent bathroom visits, tiredness, moodiness, change in appet_te, etc. Symptoms I had during my last three pregnancies. I have taken a couple HPT's and they were negative. I had a blood test too and it was negative. However, when I was pregnant with my first son I had negative HPT's and a blood test come back negative and I was actually 6 weeks pregnant at the time! Could it be possible? Could I be pregnant? I have been regretting having my tubes tied since not to long after I had it done. This would be so great for me! I feel like I'm pregnant! Could it just be that I want another baby so bad that I am having phantom symptoms? Any advise is appreciated! Thanks.
