I feel that my son should not have his fathers last name. If I put him on the birth certificate what does he have to do to get the last name changed to his?

In most cases, I know where I live you have to have the father sign a paper (if you are not married) claiming he is the father &/or taking responsibility for the child, then the fathers last name will be given to the child...if you don't want your son having his last name just don't get him to sign the papers...it can be done after - either getting his name on or off the birth certificate but it takes more work...hope this helps some

My daughter has my last name, her father signed the birth certificate, we were not together when I had her and I am now married to someone else. I left it up to her if she wants to change it to my new last name I will pay for her to do that. Or she can't wait until she gets married. Her having my last name mad things easier on me. What I should have done to make things even easier was put "father unknown". But I didn't want to look like a "s___t" and I thought after she was born we'd get back together. Man was I wrong.

(not married) if you give the child daddy's last name... and then you split up.... is there anyway to change the baby's last name to mommy's?
