My name is Alyssa and I3 years old. I am about 4 weeks pregnant, and I still don't know how to tell my parents. I know I can't keep this a secret for long, because I know I will need them there for me. This is all so confusing and I just want to know how to keep my baby healthy. Please help me!

Alyssa, how do you know you are pregnant? Have you done a home pregnancy test to confirm? The one thing to check at such an early stage is that your diet contains enough folate (folic acid) to minimize the chance of birth defects. That can come either from diet (read the labels) or from prenatal vitamins. Try Total cereal, enriched breads, spinach, peas and beans. Good luck!

Hi Alyssa, Have you told anyone yet? Do you have someone close that you can confide in? A best friend It's going to be hard for you to tell your parents. They are most likely going to be surprised, hurt and even disappointed, but they will still love you. They are going to blame themselves, blame you... You are all going to go through a lot of emotions, anger, sadness, and stress which will eventually turn into excitement, joy, anticipation... You just need to be mature and give them a moment (maybe days, weeks) to take it all in. It may be easier for you if you have a friend you can confide in first so you have someone to stand by you while your parents wrap their heads around the situation. It may even be easier to tell them if you have someone there with you when you tell them. But most importantly, you need to tell them very soon. This is real. If you are anything like I was when I became pregnant at 16, it doesn't seem real yet but it is and you need to get prenatal care. Also, you are going to need your parents there with you to help you immensely over the next few years. Your relationship with your parents is going to be very important! Also VERY important is for you to know that your life is not ruined! There may be people who will look down on you but just do the best you can and know that your family is all that really matters. Just take a deep breath and accept that this is the path your life has taken. You still have your life ahead of you and you can do anything you want with it! You just might have more obstacles in your way than others your age. You can do it! Just keep your head high, be strong, accept that you have to grow up and put aside little things that most 13 year olds deal with and be the mom and person you want to be. It will be ok!

You should tell your parents. They need to know and you will need their help. You won't be able to hide it forever anyway. I wish you good luck!
