ok well i had my scan today! im 33 weeks 3 days and they have estimated her weight at 5lbs 10 oz!!, at 33 weeks she should weigh about 4 lb 3 oz! the doctor didnt say anuything i noticed while looking through my notes, but they also didnt tell me that her head 2/5 engaged! i thought that ment her head is 2/5ths of the way donw there but searching it up its the other way around she only has 1/5th to fo until she,s fully engaged! so she,s like in the middle stage! is this not too early for that happen? im convinced i,ll go early at this rate lol! abnd i know the scan is only an estiamted weight but it still makes me worry what size baby im guna be pushing out lol!

A baby typically gains half a pound a week the last few weeks. Going by that, if you go the full 40 weeks your baby would weigh around 9 lbs at birth. But babies grow at different rates so she could only gain another 2 lbs or so. I would say with her already being 5 lbs 10 oz she will be a slightly large baby. 2/5 engaged basically means head down near the birth ca___l. The number goes all the way down to -5 so she has a way to go. Shes making progress though!

Wow i so said that backwards. The numbers start at -5 and go to +5. +5 = crowning.

and no it doesnt mean you'll go early. This baby was at a 0 at 28 weeks and was at a 1 at my last appt. She'll probably be at a 2 next week, i can tell shes lower.

im hoping they got the estimated weight wrong lol i have another in 4 weeks so we,l see then.............i read up on the whole engaged thing ans so many people get confused some think it means there head has 3/5ths to go but its the other way around right? she has 1/5ths to go? her head is more in than out?

Well its a 2 on a scale of 1-5 and it does basically mean shes two fifths of the way down. Shes at a 2 now and 5 means crowning so she still has to get to a 3 and then to a 4. My girls at a little less then 4 lbs now and we're due only 2 days apart. But im hoping its means im not as far along.

i think its different in America and England in my pregnancy notes it says 0/5 is crowning and 5/5 is free........i think there the other way round lol! i searched and some sites say 2/5 engaged means she has 3/5 to go and some say 2/5 engaged means her head is 3/5 down there so she only has 1/5 to go until she,s fully engaged but it also says that in my notes...hmm i think i,ll check with my midwife i dont understand why it would be the other way round in other countrys lol

It's normal, first of all, where her head is heh. With Victoria her head was -2 for a while, and when I was in preterm labor at 34 weeks it still was -2 and I was even the day she was born.. at least I think. But she may gain a good amount of weight, may not. Addy was only 5 lbs 11 oz the day she came home, and it was fine. 6 lbs 1 oz the day she was born. But Victoria was 7 lbs 7 oz so you never know! Don't let it worry you.

thanks addy i was worried she was too big but on the scale thing i have in my notes she,s still in the normal range just a little higher than most and i mean they can be up to a pound off! im excited that she,s atarting to engage her head! i mean even though it doesnt mean shje,l come early she,s still preparing lol! lets hope it stays down there lol

I think different doctors do the scale differently. Some only use a scale that goes up to 3 instead of 5. Ive never heard of only using positve numbers though. Ive always heard floating freely as a negative number whether its -5 or -3. Not that it matters. As long as the baby isnt crowning you're good.

this is how it explains it in my notes............engagement is how low the babys head is below the brim of the pelvis. it is messured by the proportion which can still be felt through the abdomen, in fiths: 5/5 = free; 4/5 = sitting on the pelvic brim ; 3/5 = lower but most is still above the brim; 2/5 = engaged, as most is below the brim; 1/5 or 0/5 = deeply engaged, as hardly still palpable from above. and im 2/5 so engaged i supose with only 1/5 to go......... does this make sence to you? that whole -5 thingy i dont get lol

AddyAndVictoriasMommy - January 1

I've never heard it used that way to be honest x_x; My doctor and the doctors I've gone to all have used -2/+2 etc. Like for example -5 is floating freely etc etc etc 0 is fully engaged in the pelvis, and +5 is where you are 100% effaced 10 cm dilated and the head is in the birth ca___l aka really in the v____a/crowning. I felt a lot of pressure and asked the nurse, the nurse checked me (mind you this was when I was in labor) and she said "OH you're going to have a baby! She's ready!" and she said her head was right there lol

Thats the only way ive heard it as well. Though im sure different countries/doctors do things a little differently.

angelmonkey - January 1

hmm how strange......it must be a different country thing lol............i mean im no expert on what it all means i just looked at what she put under engaged in my notes which was 2/5 so i thought her head still had a way to go and i found a paragraph in my otes which says what it all means, which is what i wrote on here and from what i can figure her head is pretty far down............its backwards the way they do it really as its not 2/5 down its 2/5 above the pelvis? its all strange im guna check with my midwife tuesday anyways.......but i have such intense pressure down there! it hurts when i sit down! i have a funny shooting pain down there every now and then too!

I just wanted to say on the weight thing that people do get that wrong. I was told at my first ultrasound that my son was a little behind in weight. I got the second and they said he was huge. The tech even said I'd probably need a c-section with my size and the size of his head. Well I had a small headed 5lb 15 oz baby! My sis also experienced the same thing at the end of her pregnancy with her youngest daughter. They couldn't get her dates exact because she has period like bleeding in her pregnancy so usually she doesn't notice she's pregnant until she's 3-5 months pregnant. With her youngest they did an ultrasound said the baby was due soon from the size. She pa__sed the due date they gave her and they wanted to induce her. She went in to do that and they did another ultrasound and freaked out because the baby was only measuring 4 lbs. She had my niece within the next week and she was 7 and a half pounds. Just let it comfort you that she's normal and don't worry too much. If she's 9lbs then she's 9lbs. But I'm going to put a guess out there that she'll be an early 8 or late 7 lbs. Even though the belly is pretty big!!! LOL! You can do it no matter what weight she is, and she'll be beautiful no matter what!

angelmonkey - January 3

haha im sooo keeping that in mind lol! i did read that they can be up to a pound off
