I heard periods are lighter with an IUD. I am getting mine at my postpartum visit. What kind do you use? Just wondering.

I'm getting a second opinion on Mirena since my OB wouldn't give me one at my postpartum visit... I've never used one so I dunno what they're like or anything. I would say that since it does mess with your hormones, everyone is different. You may get heavier periods then get lighter ones. I think your periods are supposed to kind of fade off instead of abruptly stopping. So I think you're okay but if you keep getting heavy periods you may want to ask your doctor.

depends on what kind of IUD you have. if you have the Mirena, this one has hormones in it that it releases gradually. It lasts for 5 years and most women report that their periods get lighter and shorter as time goes on, many not having one at all after about a year. Tho they are not predicable and like you said it comes when it wants due to the hormones. The other IUD is the copper one and lasts for ten years. This one will make you go back to regular periods every month but they may be a little longer and harder then they were before the IUD.

how did it make your cycle longer if you wernt having periods? if you dont have a period you dont have a cycle really so how do you compare it to say your cycle was longer lol

lol oops! i didnt mean my cyle i was VERY tired when i wrote this! 13 hour shifts are a little to much to handle!! haha i meant they make your cycle longer, instead of 28 days its about 34 from what the ppl in my clinic say, and the two that i have gotten were about 34 days apart too! hahaha i should proofread before i hit enter!
