Well i cant smell it unless i actually sniff it. Sounds gross, i know. When its on my underwear after having unprotected s_x i always sniff it to make sure thats what it is. One of my signs of miscarriage was i would always start leaking aminotic fluid, which also has a very distinct smell. So i always make sure for my piece of mind.

Oh and they say the smell and taste of c_m has alot to do with what you eat.

Sorry Amanda, im not not answering you on purpose, i just dont seem to be with it today. The best ive heard c_m described that fit is a bleachy/salty smell. Definately bleachy.

lol its hard to say what it smells like! i wouldnt know how to describe i think i,ll just agree with newbaby with the bleachy one lol.......... newbaby can you describe what amniotic fluid smells like? i,ve recently had a lot of wetness like i think i,ve peed myself then i go and check but its like sticky water that has quite a weird smell! i thought it was urine at first as heidis right on my bladder but it defo wasnt that just had me wondering what it was.......it kind of smells sweet thats the only way i can describe it

The only way i know how ot describe amniotic fluid is its a very sweet smell and its sticky and very thin. If you're leaking amniotic fluid you need an ultrasound to check the levels. Though there is also a discharge that is very similar. It also has a sweet smell, though not near as sweet as amniotic fluid. I guess you'd have to have smelled both to know the difference. But if you think there is a chance you're leaking amniotic fluid, you need to call your doctor.

NB, I dunno I guess I didn't really pay attention. It's been a long time since I've had unprotected s_x. For all I know I did feel it and didn't think about what it was. Like I've said before, I was pretty stupid and never paid attention to my body some years ago.

Amanda, if you have heavy discharge you probably wouldnt have noticed it. I used to have very heavy discharge like you describe. I also had to wear pantiliners 24/7 for like a year or so. I HATED it, i thought there was something wrong with me. Thankfully it stopped. I dont think i would have noticed c_m if i had been having unprotected s_x back then. Except maybe on the toilet paper when wiping directly afterwards.

thanks newbaby that sounds exactly like what it is............but then i guess it could also be that discharge? i have a midwife appoinment on tuesday do you think i should wait till then or would that be dangourous? i mean i,ve had it for about a week now and its not like it leaks it actually feels like something spurts out i actually thought my water had broken the day the sensation it gave me..............i have regular scans anyway i have one in 2 weeks (33-34 weeks) i havnt had teh appoinment yet and one at 37 weeks 6 weeks form now.............is it safe to wait until tuesday or should i re book my appoinment?

angel, you should call your midwife and see what she thinks. An amniotic fluid leak is more like a steady consistant trickle. Occasional spurts are most likely normal pregnancy discharge. When i called my doctor with this problem he told me to put on a pad and if it was wet within 2 hours i needed to go in.

I hope mine stops haha. It's almost like being on a light, crampless period all the time.

angel-ive obv checked to make sure its tsill okay to have s_x, my dr says its safe, as long as im not in pain during then go for it but if i feel pain to stop.

If you're leaking amniotic fluid, that's not something you wait about. Your baby could be losing the nutrition it needs to survive. They may even have to induce you.

angelmonkey - December 18

which is why i rang nhs to seek advice amanda! i lost some of mucos plug today and they think its got something to do with that? i really dont see how........ i havnt leaked in a couple of days so they said wait it out until tuesday unless it happens again.............not really satasfied with there advice but thats not much else i can do.........if it happens again im going to go a&e

A small leak is most likely a tear in the fluid sac. Alot of times the babys head blocks the tear so you only leak when the baby moves its head. A healthy placenta continuously produces amniotic fluid, so as long as any leak isnt large amounts they'll most likely put you on bedrest to see if the tear heals its self. If the medical professionals arent too concerned i wouldnt worry about it.
