Mentorn Media - July 11

Calling all teen-mums-to-be, I work for a television company called Mentorn Media. We’re making a series about underage teenage pregnancy and I’m really keen to hear your story. The programmes will follow young mum’s-to-be through pregnancy and birth on television and online. Positive and fun it’s not about making judgments – it’s about telling the real stories of teenagers who are pregnant and hearing about your experiences in your words. We want to prove it’s not all Vicky Pollard! We’d really like to hear from you as we’re looking for a mix of teenage mums-to-be from a variety of different backgrounds. If this sounds interesting then please drop me a line. Thanks, Clare

Enough with the television shows, enough with promoting it like it's so cool.. Being an underage mother is HARD, it's not always fun, it's not something anyone should want for themselves. The next time I see another godd__n stupid movie, television show, website, or whatever promoting teen pregnancy I am going to scream. They make it seem like yes its hard but look at how strong this girl is going through it blah blah. So they think oh I want to be seen as a strong girl too. How about we stop ALIENATING teen parents, leave them the hell alone, and don't give them a badge of honor for getting knocked up. I am seventeen, I have a daughter, and I would really rather people scolded me for accidentally getting pregnant than praising me for it. First of all it's none of your business, and second of all it's encouraging stupid little girls to get pregnant when they really, really shouldn't. If you wanted to give me credit for being a good mom or a good person... Fine. But leave my age out of it.

i have actually seen one of these shows before and it actually shows how hard it is! there not all strong it sends out a signal NOT to get pregnant at a young age.

Showing them how hard it is often motivates them to do it... That's my point. They see how hard it is and they want it to be hard so they can get the attention... They don't actually comprehend that it's not about them and their stupid thirst for attention, it's about a child. Telling them its hard won't discourage them, leaving the matter alone will. In some sense they actually want it to be hard, the harder it is the more chance they have to prove themselves and the more chance they get for people to praise them. Pretty much every teenager is striving for a way to prove themselves, all this godd__n media attention teen parents are getting is just providing them a way. And what happens if they mess up? An innocent child gets the full b__w of her downfall.

angelmonkey - July 11

yes but the point is to discourage them so its irelivent what anyone thinks it does this and does that, thats not the point. i think its a good idea what they do. have you ever seen one of these shows? i seen one about a 14year old who told other teeneagers how much its ruined her life ect, tehy dont praise people in these shows and i dotn see how if you show them its hard they,l want to do it for the attention, thats just contradicting yourself as in you first post you siad being a unerage mother is hard..........

Um yeah I've seen a few... I saw a few snippets of baby borrowers and that new show about a pregnant teenager with Molly Ringwald playing the mother... They are all targeting teen audiences, because that's what they have deemed "cool." I really don't think the 'point' is anything but to make money. And about praising them, putting them on television at all is praising them, it's giving them the attention these teens crave. Most of the shows are praising teens in a positive way, all except the baby borrowers I think praises teens in a positive way. The Baby Borrowers are bad in their own sense because watching so many people fail at it makes them think if they succeed they'll be praised twice as much. Notice how ever since the media decided to throw out some teen pregnancy in movies and television shows teenage pregnancies have skyballed?

Honestly I think shows like this don't make it seem how "hard" it is, I think teens sit there and think things like, "omg she is doing ___ wrong and ___ wrong I could totally do it." I think that it is kind of promoting it. Showing kids how hard it is isn't going to make them NOT do it.. just like here in the US in my school we got these mechanical babies everyone had to have one before they graduated take it for 3 days and let me tell you it was TERRIBLE and the WORST thing I had to do but it didn't stop me from wanting kids and after that in fact 2 girls in my cla__s ended up pregnant, and I heard this year 4 have ended up pregnant.

i see your points but amanda these shows are real mothers who have babys, i also think that its not the shows fault if it makes people think oh its really hard i want to do it! thats just a stipid teenagers fault! the shows are here to STOP it happening they dont promote teens to have babys as amanda siad, they promote them not to and just because teens think oh its hard i want to do it then thats not a shows fault, if you show someone how hard something is they usually dont do it so i dont know where the if its hard i,ll do it came from?

amanda17 - July 12

Like I said, I really don't think the shows are meaning to do anything but make money. I think they are probably fully aware how teens perceive things and could care less.

angelmonkey - July 12

no you dont see what im getting, why the hell would you think oh tahts ruined her life its really hard why would i want my life to be like that? really what kind of person would do that! you have crazy ideas that dont make sence amanda i give up on this post

amanda17 - July 12

What??? Hahaha. I was saying that teens look for a way to prove themselves. Like addysmummy said, they aren't really going to believe it's hard because they think of ways they can do it better. I don't understand why this is so hard for you to comprehend...

ashley_1991 - July 12

i would say enough with the teen parent shows! I mean we have like way too many on the go as it is and i think that amanda you have a great point the more they advertise teen parents and how hard it is and c___p like that its just going to get worse becuase it will be like oh look at me it was soo hard but im doing it you could to .... sends the wrong message .. angelmonkeyt i also see hwere your coming from. I like the baby borrowers theyt arent praising them ! they are showing them what its like but some of the other shows are really c___ppy in the sense that they "promote" it pretty much.. >> well this is just my input lol

AddysMummy - July 12

Yeah, um, most teens these days ARE stupid if they are purposefully planning a baby ANYWAYS for WANTING a baby at such a young age so do you think that they aren't stupid enough to think "Oh, I can do it! They all say it's hard I think they are stupid and just can't do it!" They aren't that smart if they already want a baby at a young age so I mean come on... ya know?

ashley_1991 - July 12
