its actually prety comming.. about 40% of pregnant women have it.. its just a bacteria, NOT an STD or anything its totally normal. its doesnt pose any danger to you or your baby while baby is still in the womb and your water hasnt broken and all that so dont worry. all it means is that if you test positive they will want you to go to L&D as soon as you think you are in labor as apposed to waiting at home for a while like a lot of women do.. they want you there asap so they can start you on antibiotics because if the baby pa__ses through an infected v____a it can cause health problems for the baby. like I said though its totally normal and very very treatable! you just need to get antibiotics :) good luck on the test hon.

I am positive KOLLEEN and like Heather said it's pretty common - all that means is that I will have to have IV antibiotics when I go into labor - they would like to make sure I get 2 rounds of antibiotics which will take about 8 hours so if I end up being induced they will drag it out at least 8 hours ....LOL

yeah- its a pretty common bacteria that women get, and they jsut want to make sure we don't tranfer that to the baby when they are born. My sister had it with both pregnancies, and I just had my 36 wk checkup and internal exam and they did the GBS swab too. I haven't heard back form them, btu I'm sure they'll tell me at my appt next week whether or not I tested positive. SInce my sister did, I probly will...thats what I'm guessing at least...but its nothing to be worried about!!!!

You can do a search for "Group B Strep" and get a lot of info. In the past (ages ago), babies would die from this but this is one of those areas where medical advances have changed things from night to day. It's really no big deal anymore... you just get the antibiotics during L&D. I tested positive for GBS at the beginning of pg (it showed up in my 1st trimester urine a___lysis, which indicates a high level of GBS so they'll just treat me as GBS positive for the remainder of my pg). Like I said, it's not a big deal at all.

I had it with my first pregnancy, I go in for my 35 week appt tomorrow, my doctor already said she expects it to be positive since I was the first time, it just means that you have to have an IV, which I hated, and I didn't go into the hospital til after I was in labor for about 18 hours, my labor ended up being 26 hours, but that's partly because the hospital where I lived didn't believe I was in labor I was only 36 weeks, and my doctor had just gotten my results back the previous day.
