I get to go in on Monday and hang out for 3 hours to do the Glucose Tolerance Test. Anyone here fail the screen and then pass without abnormal results on the tolerance test?

Hi! I didn't fail my test, but I had a friend who recently did. You have to drink something with 2x as much sugar, and then have your blood taken every 20 minutes (I think). The good news is that my friend said the doc told her only about 15% of people who fail the first one actually have GD, so most likely you will be fine, even though it stinks to have to hang out at the clinic for 3 hours, Best wishes!

Yeah, I "failed" the screen as well...by all of one point! But after taking the tolerance test, I was cleared. Turns out the pop I'd had for lunch was all that did it! Just make sure you don't change your intake of sugar before going in. (Your body will go into overdrive and drive those numbers even higher.) Good luck! And take a good book along...

I went for my first test and scored a 140. I then went in for the 3 hour test and I pa__sed. They take blood as soon as you get there, then you drink the same thing you had last time only a double dose, then they draw blood 1, 2, and 3 hours after you've finished drinking. You have to have 3 out of four abnormal readings to have failed the test. It's not as bad as I thought it'd be, but make sure you bring something to do as time just crawls by!!! Good luck!!!

I'm so sorry for you. I failed the 1 hr and pa__sed the 3 hr. i think a lot of people end up pa__sing it b/c they just barely failed the 1 hr. If you really fail the 1 hr. by a lot you are just diagonsed with gest. diabeties and you don't have to do the 3 hr one.

Hi, I had to go back for the three hours test also.
Unfortunately I did not pa__s and they said I have Gestational Diabetes. It sucks but I only have about 6 weeks to go. I have to watch what and when I eat which is very hard for a pregnant women as you can imagine. But good luck hope you pa__s. :-)

*Also want to add I was off by maybe 4 points with the hour test thats why they sent me for the three hours test and with that I failed only two out of the four tests, so I think it all depends on your OB practice. Good luck though!!

I failed my first one too and I think the best advice I could give would be to go in the morning on an empty stomach so there won't already be any kind of "sugar" in your system to jack up the test. The sweeter stuff is gagaliciously sweet but just bring a book and something to eat when it's over cuz I was starving. C___ppity c___p, that's funny.

Hi - I failed the first test with a 174. Had to go for the 3 hr test and I failed that "terribly" as the nurse put it. For that you have to go in 1st thing after fasting all night, have your blood drawn, drink a sugary drink in 5 min and then have your blood drawn once an hour for four hours. Since they designated me with GD, I had to see a nutritionist to tell me how to spread out my carbs for the day and I have to test my blood sugar 4 x's a day with one of those meters. It's not bad and out of all the things that could go wrong, this is probably one of the better ones. I am also pregnant with twins, so that may be a reason why since I have had 3 other babies and did not fail the tests with them. Good luck!!

Like Cynthia, I failed miserably also... Being diabetic really wasn't that bad.. I've since had my baby, and as soon as the placenta was delivered, my blood sugars went back to normal... I failed my first with a 162 and failed all 4 draws with the 3 hr test. The diet isn't that bad and the whole poking your finger thing isn't that bad either. I even had to go on insulin and the insulin didn't hurt at all to inject. The needles are tiny and I put it in my thigh. It'll be ok if you fail this one! I wish you luck and I hope you pa__s it!
