Hi everyone. I am 28 weeks pregnant with a boy. My son will be about 2 and a half when his brother is born. I'm wondering how everyone prepares their first born for the arrival of a sibling. We bought my son a doll and doll stroller, crib, and bottles for Christmas and just recently bought him a big brother book. We tell him al the time that baby Ryan is in mommy's belly and he can repeat this back (don't think he actually gets it though). Just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing. Also, I'm very worried that my son will feel neglected and unloved even though my hubby and I will give him lots of attention. Any suggestions?

Hi bubbasmom! I experienced this twice--I just had my third and all three are about two years apart. What you are doing sounds great and I can't think of much more. When the baby does arrive, I find it important to make sure your older child still gets special one on one time with you, and when you are busy with the baby have your child be a "special helper" (as much as is possible with a two year old, ha ha). Honestly, the transition has gone great for me both times and it is a lot of fun to have a little one share in the excitement of your new baby! Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I like the idea of using him as a helper and I know he would love it. I'm really anxious about the transition and don't want him to feel replaced at all. I'm hoping it goes well

When my second son was born my oldest had just turned 4 he was older but we just kept telling him how it was so cool that he was going to be a big brother and mommy's best helper - he got such a cute puffed up chest - he really was a great helper although after a few weeks he asked us when the baby was leaving LOL - so then my husband took him out for a big boy night just the 2 of them then I took him out just him and me - then we left the baby with grandma and the 3 of us went out to do big boy stuff (like Chuck E cheese , park etc.) Plus this time now that I am having a 3rd a little girl she is going to show up on the scene with presents for my older boys who are now 9 and 4 - I figure if she comes on the scene bearing gifts they will see how great it is right away....Good luck

We are actually doing the present idea as well. My son loves trains so we bought him a train table that will be the baby's present to him. We have also stocked up on cheap matchbox cars to give to my son when/if people bring baby presents to the hospital. I'm just feeling really sad for my son thinking of how it will no longer just be him.
