Mirena Or ParaGard IUD

Hi ladies, I was wondering if anyone is planning on getting and IUD after having there baby or I should say at least 6 weeks later? I am going to get one but I am not sure what one would be the best to get. I keep hearing good things about the Mirena and some negative things about the ParaGard. The difference is ParaGard is cooper, has not hormones and last up to 10 years. The Mirena has hormones but releases a very small amount just like birth control pills, last up to 5 years and is plastic. I just need advise on what one others have had or plan to get if any. I know some people have their beliefs about birth control but this is a choice my husband and I have made and would appreciate some insight on what others experiences are or plans. Thanks for the advice in advance!

I have been contemplating the IUD too. I have no idea about the differences though so I am paying attention to this thread. Have you tried posting it in the infant care forum? Alot of the women there have recently given birth and are either starting or started some type of BC. :)

Good suggestion. I wasn't sure where to post it at first so I will do that. Keep and eye on the responses here and in the infant care forum. Thanks. I think I am leaning more torwards the Mirena and I think that is what my doctor suggested stating that most women they give the IUD use the Mirena. I will find out for sure too.

I would go for the mirena IUD since it is plastic and has a lower chance of puncturing your uterus. Also the hormones are good since it's more likely to prevent ovulation instead of just preventing fertilization and spontaneous miscarriage/abortion. I have thought about IUD's as well but it just goes against my personal beliefs. Good luck!

Thanks Sarah for your input! I hear ya about it being against your belief. Its weird but my sister was like that too and I totally understand. I grew up as a catholic and you know how they are about any bc options. Thanks again!

I forgot to put in what I am considering for birth control, hehe. I am going to try a progesterone-only pill since I am planning on b___stfeeding.
